Samuel H. Gass was born February 7th, 1855. Died July sixteenth, 1925, at the age of 70 years, 4 mos. and 9 days. Death was caused by the fall of rock in the Jones mines at Clairman, Ill.

He united with the M.E. church at the age of 10 years, then about 30 years ago he united with the Baptist church, of which he remained a faithful member until death. He was a deacon of the Clairman church.

On December 5th, 1895, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Hattie Williams in Nashville. To this union two children were born: Ruth, wife of Jess Shook and George who remains at home to comfort the bereaved wife and mother; also two stepchildren, Laura and Grace, who loved him as a father. Also two brothers, Dan and Joe, one sister, Emma Harland and several grand children. Our loss is his gain.

He was a member of the U.M.W. of A.

Eld. Albert Wright conducted the funeral services at the Clairman church July 18th at 2 p.m., where a large concourse of friends and relatives paid their last tribute to the departed brother.

Interment in Tilden cemetery. U.M.W. of A. had charge of the services at the cemetery.
