Obituary of Mrs. Cynthia (Hill) Rittenhouse

Mrs. Cynthia Rittenhouse

Mrs. Cynthia Rittenhouse died in St. Louis, MO. December 9th 1896.

The deceased was born at Turkey Hill, St. Clair Co., Illinois in 1845.
Her parents were Mr. Isaac Hill and Mrs. Harriett (Patterson) Hill, both of whom died some years ago.

She leaves four brothers, John R. Hill of Saline Co., Illinois: W.G. Hill of this city: James Hill of Billings Mo, and Newton Hill of Decatur, Ill. Also two sisters. Mrs. Julia Ownes of Billimgs MO., and Mrs Nannie Irwin of Greens Ill.

She was united in marriage to Mr. Charles Rittenhouse in 1862.
Her husband survives, also eight children and nine grandchildren. Mrs. Rittenhouse united with the Freeburg Baptist Church at the age of 14 and remained a member until the time of here death.

The remains were brought to Belleville and the funeral services were held at the house of W.G. Hill. Rev. H.E. Fuller of the Baptist Church officiated.

The burial took place at the Rider Cemetery.

Mrs. Rittenhouse was a quiet and unassuming in her ways, a devoted wife and mother and a consistent Christen in her life, and loved and respected by all who knew her.
