Edward "Bill" Smith, 72, died Sunday at his home near Cutler. Death was attributed to natural causes.

      Mr. Smith was a retired coal miner and a member of the Denmark Baptist Church.

      He was born January 15, 1907 in Perry County, a son of Arthur and Ida Mae (Campbell) Smith. He was married in Pinckneyville January 15, 1929 to Eva Schupbach, who survives.

      Also surviving is a brother, Arthur Smith, Jr. of Cutler, five sisters, Ruth Mohr and Helen Richmond of Cutler, Beulah Bigham and Laura Hillard of Indianapolis, Ind., and Erma Carter of Steeleville.

      One brother and two sisters preceded him in death.

      Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Denmark Baptist Church. Burial was in the Percy Cemetery.
