Violet (Grimes) Van Horn

Mrs. Violet (Grimes) Van Horn, who has been residing at Old Du Quoin, Illinois, with her daughter, Mrs. L.G. Shook, for the last six years, passed away to her home beyond on the 25th of January, 1888, at the age of 69.

The deceased was born in Carl County, Ohio on the first day of January, 1819,, and was a resident of said county for twenty four years.

On October 6th, 1842, she was married to Robert Van Horn, and in the following year she moved to McHenry County, Illinois where she remained until the year 1869. She then emigrated to St. Clair County, Missouri.

Living there a few years, she again removed to Topeka, Kansas, where her husband died November 7th, 1882.

After her companion's death, she lived with her daughter in Illinois.

The deceased was the mother of six children, all of whom survive her except one son, who died in the army.

In February of 1887, she made a public profession of faith in Christ and united with the Presbyterian Church of Du Quoin, although she had felt that she had given her heart to the Savior many years since.

She fell asleep in Jesus fearing no passing through the "Valley of the shadow of death."

After the funeral services at her late residence her remains were taken to Topeka and laid by the side of her husband.
