John Henry Wilderman
John Henry Wilderman was born April 27th 1826. He was one of a set of twins, his sister Mrs. Holcomb (Sarah Wilderman) is still living, and was happily with him during his sickness. Mr. Wilderman was a son of James and Sarah Wilderman, being one of a family of seventeen children. His parents were both professors of religion being members of the Baptist Church. I am told that preaching had not un-frequently been observed at their home. Mr. John Henry had never made a profession of religion, though during life he was denominationally inclined in the way of his parents. He always lived near the place of his birth, which was about a half mile from the picturesque home where he died. He passed from this life at half past 8 O'Clock on Sunday morning Feb. 21st 1892. As one who attended him during his sickness, the writer was pleased to note the spirit of faith that he manifested. His patient disposition was remarkable. If one might be said to be a friend of God, he seemed to love that friend of God. As an instrument of the spirit, he gave evidence of a faith in Christ ----------and as a ....... Desire. His spirit evidenced a faith in the way which hath foundation in a Heavenly country; in the doing of God's will on earth according to the ability of earth , as it is done in heaven, according to the ability of heaven is the Word of God as a better covenant; which affirms itself in the conscience of all men, and while it gives the liberty of the ----------, to all, affirms that it should be used according to the dictates of a Christian ---- ----------. The spirit of his faith believed that the spirit of God and prayer must go with an election , in order to make a people blessed, and if they did not go with such election was not only un-Christian or anti-Christian but was also against nature. He evidenced a holding fact to the ---------- of the ----------, to the oath of the chosen generation, the oath of a Holy nation and in the messenger, that he was a partaker of Christ. In dying his spirit was very suddenly but beautifully and very gently , like the flying away of a dove, went to God who gave it. James H. Wilderman.
