Rev. A. Rice Passes Away at Worden, Ill.

Reverend Alexander Rice
Rev. Alexander Rice, a former resident of Nashville, died Saturday, December 12, at the home of his son, A.Z. Rice, in Worden at the age of 80 years, 3 months and 11 days. Deceased was born Sept. 1, 1834, about twelve miles south of Nashville in Perry county. At the age of 16 he united with the Concord Baptist church and at an early age was ordained for the ministry and until recently engaged in the work. While in the ministry Rev. Rice had charge of several congregations in the Nine Mile Association and for two or three years served the church as missionary and held a life membership in the General Baptist Association. Rev. Rice lived a consistent Christian life and died in the triumph of that faith, which he had long preached to others.

After the death of his first wife Rev. Rice March 9, 1858, was married to Miss Mary A. Rice, who twenty-three years ago passed away.

In 1897 he wedded Miss Barbara Adams, which union was also severed by death.

In 1904 he was united in matrimony to Miss Mary Rountree, who about two years ago preceded him in death.

He leaves two children A.Z. Rice of Worden and Mrs. T.J. Wreath of Oakdale and a sister, Mrs. T.A. Holman of Rice.

Ten years ago Rev. Rice removed to Nashville and had recently made his home with his son at Worden. The funeral services were held at the Rice residence Monday, Rev. Blaylock officiating and the aged minister was laid to rest in the Masonic cemetery.
