DEATH OF MRS. WILLIAM STUMPF

Mrs. Mollie Cowens Stumpf died last Sunday at her home in Belleville.
The news of her death will be received with sorrow by many warm friends
in our city, her girlhood home. Prior to her marriage, Mrs. Stumpf was
for some 13 years a successful teacher in our public schools, and many
pupils have gone out from under her care can well remember the
thoroughness and pains-taking effort that ever characterized her
labors in the school room.

The following paragraphs are taken from the Pickneyville Democrat:

A telegram received here Sunday morning stated that Mrs. Stumpf
was very ill. Her mother, Mrs. J. P. Cowens, departed for Belleville
on the 2:40 p.m. passenger train and arrived at her daughter's
bedside ten minutes before she breathed her last. Consciousness
had departed, however, and the daughter was not permitted to
recognize her parent. She passed away at 4:50.

* The funeral took place at the M.E. Church in this city, Tuesday,
at three o'clock, conducted by Rev. J.D. Hennessy.
Mrs. Stumpf was the oldest child of the late Maj. J.P. Cowens and
Elizabeth Cowens. She was born at Hawesville, Ky., March 4, 1854.
On April 23, 1888, she became the wife of Mr. Wm. Stumpf, who then
resided at Chester.

Her illness was of long duration, tho' her condition was not considered
serious until last Friday. A complication of diseases brought on the end.
Here at her old home the death of this former Pickneyville girl is sincerely
regretted. Hers was a loveable character, and none knew her but to
accord her the highest respect and esteem.
