John Andrews, dealer in general merchandise, New Salem, is a native of England, where he was born Feb. 6, 1840; He came to the United States in 1854, and two years later came to this county and in 1861 embarked in the mercantile business at New Salem. In 1863 he was united in marriage with Miss M. A. Temple; she was born in St. Louis in 1842. and died in 1865. In 1868 Mr. A. was married to Miss H. L. Fisher, a native ot Ohio. To them have been born 5 children: Charles, Harry, Maud, Alice and John. Mr. A. has held the office of Postmaster, at New Salem, since 1867. He is a prominent member of the Universalist Church.
