John Duran, a retired farmer, was born in Hamilton County, Maine, Jan. 16, 1800. His parents were John and Jane (Davis) Duran.

He came to the county Nov. 18, 1831, and settled in Newburg Tp.; was married in 1825 to Miss Rhoda Ann Riggs of Cincinnati, Ohio, and they have had 12 children, 6 boys and 6 girls, 10 of who are living.

Mr. D. was Road Commissioner for 25 years in Newburg tp.; is a member of the M.E. church, also by the Masonic Lodge. P.O. Pittsfield.
