Sisters, Lula and Zella Hardy, had their hearts set on two glass slippers in his store. Their mother didn't have the money to buy the girls the slippers but Mr. Massie was generous enough to give them to the little sisters ages 4 and 8 years old.

When Lula was a young mother she unwisely let her own young son, William Blacketer, play with her shoe and it now has a small chip on one side.
