Joseph Carrel born 1796 Greene Co., PA was the son of George Carrel/Carroll and Isabella Church Carrel/Carroll. He died January 24, 1866. Joseph’s parents are buried at the Carrel Cemetery in Jackson Township, Noble County, Ohio. As the boundary lines changed with the formation of new counties, the place in Olive Green Twp., Morgan County, Ohio where the Carrels lived and the cemetery is located changed to Jackson Township, Noble County Ohio in 1851. Joseph married Nancy Jane Albin July 2, 1817 Guernsey Co., Ohio. Nancy Jane was the daughter of James Albin and Barbara Hoover. Nancy was born in Virginia February 15, 1800. She died April 21, 1877. James Albin was from Frederick County, Virginia. Joseph and Nancy had the following children are:

Aaron Carrel

George Carrel was born 25 June 1823 Morgan co OH. He married Providence Wells. George and Providence are thought to be buried at Bethel Church Cem. She was the daughter of John Tolbert Wells and Nancy McFadden.

Mary Carrel was born November 2, 1825 Morgan Co., Ohio. Married Thomas Cadwell son of William and Elizabeth McFarland Cadwell. Went to Kansas then to Iowa. Thomas is buried in Griggsville. Her date and place of death has not been determined.

Sarah Carrel born January 25, 1828 Morgan Co Ohio. Came here with the family and is here in the 1850 census. She went back to Ohio and married David Gessel son of John J and Susannah Wyant/Wyatt Gessel. She died there March 10, 1905, and is buried at Haines Cemetery.

Delilah Carrel

Almira Jane is found as Almira J or Elmira J in her marriage record and in later census records. She was born July 1840 in Morgan Co Ohio and married Samuel C. Chapman September 18, 1859 at Naples Scot Co., IL and he was the son of Wilson Chapman and Elvira Wood.


Aaron Carrel was the son of Joseph and Nancy Jane Albin Carrel. He was born November 25, 1820 in Morgan Co., Ohio He married first Mary Weeks in Morgan Co., Ohio May 21, 1846. They had Sarah Jane who was born August 25, 1856. then William J. Carrel born 31 March 1860 and died 3 Apr 1860. Sarah Jane married John J. Gruhn/Gruhnowski. Mary died the day he was born. Mary Weeks wife of Aaron Carrel. Daughter of Ezekiel Weeks and Elizabeth McFadden Weeks. Born December 2, 1828 in Ohio. Married Aaron Carrel May 21, 1846 Morgan Co., Ohio. Died March 31, 1860.

Aaron married second, Sarah P. Brown. She was born March 18, 1832 St. Lawrence Co., NY. Her parents were James Brown and Nancy Meads. They had come to Pittsfield with a group of Mormons. The mother died, then the father and Sarah was raised by Joseph and Mary Carlton. Aaron and Sarah married March 13, 1862 in Pittsfield. Aaron died June 28, 1868 and Sarah died December 30, 1914. They had children, Franklin Joseph, Thomas Jefferson, and Emma N. Carrel. Thomas married Emma Hoos and Emma married Emmit Smith.

Franklin Joseph Carrel was born February 8, 1863, Pittsfield, IL. He was the son of Aaron and Sarah Brown Carrel. He married Addie Belle Scranton daughter of Hiram and Amanda L. Sprague Scranton in Montrose, Iowa, November 27, 1884. They had two children, Elizabeth who was born and died September 13, 1885. Roy E. Carrel who was born February 17, 1888. Franklin Joseph Carrel married secondly Jennie Smith daughter of Theodore and Phoebe Low Smith.

Roy Ellsworth Carrel married Martha Ellen McKinney, aka Mattie, November 20, 1910 in Griggsville, IL. Roy was born February 17, 1888 and died October 31, 1957. Mattie was born February 17, 1892. They had children, Raymond, Franklin, Ruth, Fayetta, Annetta, June and Mary Addibelle. Mattie was the daughter of William Street McKinney and Mary Lorena Shinn.



Wiley Andrew Farmer was born September 4, 1837 in Beverly Adams County Illinois. He was the son of James and Mary Ann Chapman Farmer. He died March 15, 1902. He married Delilah Carrel/Carroll May 3, 1857 in Pike Co., IL. She was the daughter of Joseph and Nancy Jane Carrel. Delilah was born February 10, 1833 Morgan Co., Ohio and died July 3, 1886. They had children as follows, William F., Lewis A., James Edward, and Charles A. Farmer. William F’s stone says he drowned in Lake Pontchartrain, LA June 6, 1883.


Wilson Chapman born June 18, 1807 in South Carolina. He was the son of Edmund W. Chapman and Mary Ann Wood. Edmund and second wife Mary are buried in Simpkin Cemetery. Wilson married Elvira Wood. Wilson died October 21, 1868. Elvira died January 29, 1857. According to the estate file at the Pike County courthouse he was survived by second wife Charlotte Pringle and the children living at the time of Wilson’s death were, Mary J. Weeks, Samuel C., Nancy E. Sharp, Julia Harvey, L. W. Chapman W.C. Chapman, John W. and James M. There was a son William who died young in 1864. Mary J was the wife of Daniel Weeks. Samuel C. married Almira J. Carrel. Nancy E married Edwin H. Sharp. Julia married Samuel C. Harvey.


Mary J Chapman was the daughter of Wilson and Elvira Wood Chapman. Mary J and Daniel were married June 26, 1855 in Pike Co., IL. Daniel was the son of Ezekiel and Elizabeth McFadden Weeks.
