Home of the Purple Martin Birds |
|
The Purple Martin Birds are a fixture in Griggsville IL.
They help to keep down the terrible mosquito problem plaguing this area.
The Purple Martin fends off the bugs. In 1962 the Jaycees commissioned a manufacturer to make dream homes for the birds.
Mr. J. L. Wade is probably the most qualified nature love in the business and knows everything there is to know
about these fascinating birds. These homes were positioned along Quincy Street, which is now known as Purple Martin Boulevard.
The Martins go home to Brazil in the winter time and come back to visit us every spring. It is said that the Purple Martin
can eat about 2000 mosquitos a day.
