Elza Scranton drove a cow to town Tuesday night in order to bring a calf which he wanted to ship and afterward took the cow back home. During the night the cow made her way back to town where she had been separated from her calf and was killed by a passing train

Last Thursday an airplane arrived from Springfield and landed on the farm of L. A. Roberts north of town. There was considerable excitement for a time. People and automobiles coming from all directions to see the bird man and his flying machine. Mr. C. H. Bush was the first man to take a ride in the machine. Misses Virginia and Eleanor Dinsmore were the first ladies. Others who made trips were: Danny Hamilton, Neal Sutton, Mrs. C. H. Bush, Mrs. T. L. Chiasson, Fred Main, H. O. Berry, Mrs. D. A. Roberts, Paul Gant, L. A. Roberts, Carl Wall, Frank Yocum, Dr. J. R. Pollock, John Cannon, Grace Norton and Blanch Yocum. They went from here to Pleasant Hill, spent Sunday at Bartholomew Beach and will return here for the Home Coming Aug 19, 20 and 21.

Mr. and Mrs. Claud Smith were married one year ago last Saturday July 24th. Their parents Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Dyer came in the evening with a freezer full of ice cream and two lovely cakes and gave them a surprise. Mrs. R.H. Stevens, grandmother of Mr. Smith and two uncles Will and N.M. Stevens with the editors were also guests at the party. All enjoyed a very pleasant time and departed wishing Mr.a nd Mrs. Smith many happy returns of the day.

FAMILY REUNION - The Johnston family are holding their second reunion at the homes of their brothers John and William and Sister Sarepta in Nebo. Those present are: Mrs Jose Simpkins of Canton, So. Dak., Mrs. A. W. Cole of Canton, O. and Mrs. C. H. Erwin of Fremont, Nebr. Mrs. Dr. Calvert and James Johnston are expected to arrive at any time.

Mrs. May Simpkins Cowan and children have returned to their home in Canton, So Dak, after a visit of two weeks. The family will be pleased to see any old friends or neighbors who can find time to call on them while here

Miss Ruby Smith planned and successfully carried out a surprise in honor of her mother Mrs. W.T. Smith's birthday last Sunday. When Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Alonzo Stevens arrived home from church they found the guests assembled and a bounteous dinner on the table. Mrs. Smith was completely surprised. The following were present to help her celebrate: Her mother Mrs. R.H.Stevens, brothers N.M., Wm. and James Stevens, Alonzo Stevens and wife, Louie Melton and family, Claud Smith and family, Misses Ruth Stevens and Elma Thornton and Mr. and MRs. Eri Dyer.

Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Fields, Mrs. Jas. Simpson and daughters, Leola and Leota, Mr. Sam Fields and Miss JeanetteShultz of Collinsville came up Wednesday of last week by automobile and visited he families of Alonzo Stevens, Mrs. R.H. Stevens and W.T. Smith. They returned home Monday and were accompanied by Mrs. Alonzo Stevens and Miss Ruth Stevens who will visit for a week in Collinsville and St. Louis.
