An alarm of fire was given on Tuesday and the fire company had their hose cart out in a twinkling. The residence of J. S. Gorton was reported on fire, but the flames were extinguished by the time the firemen got there. A hot kettle had been set in the wood box by the hired girl and the box was set on fire. The wainscoting was considerable burned, however, little damage was done. (Contributed by Virginia Gorton Bonne).
