ROBERT LISTER
Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Lister have received word from the War Department saying that their son, Cpl. Robert Lister, was killed in action in Germany on December 5th. Cpl. Lister was a tank gunner serving with the First Army under the command of General Hodges.

Robert was 19 years old on September 3, and attended the Griggsville schools prior to his enlistment in the Army on May, 11, 1942. He received his basic training at Ft. Knox, Kentucky and was stationed there several months as a tank instructor, later being transferred to Ft. Jackson, South Carolina. He was sent on overseas duty last September. The parents had a letter from him a few weeks ago and he was home on leave last May for the last time.

Since, receiving the message from the War Department, Mr. and Mrs. Lister have received a note of sympathy from General Marshall.

Surviving Robert are his parents, a brother, Cpl. Clarence Lister, now with the armed forces on Guadalcanal, and two brothers, Harold and Paul, at home, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Lloyd.

Mr. Lister stated in a conversation with the writer that his son had followed almost the same route that he had followed in the First World War. Mr. Lister was over the same territory in which his son was killed.

The Bethelem Star has turned to gold,
And so—alas—has mine,
Where once against the window pane
I saw a blue star shine.
In Christmas’ past a tinseled one
In its accustomed place
On tip of lighted balsam tree
Lit up his strong, young face.
But in that hour—on battle field
Or out on thundering main—
I know the Star of Bethelem
Shone on his face again.
I like to think its beacon light
Was smiling from above,
The day God took him by the hand
And led him home to Love.
