GRIGGSVILLE BOY BREAKS HIS NECK WHILE SWIMMING

James Dinsmore, 15, Patient in Blessing Hospital After Dive.James Dinsmore, 15, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dinsmore of Griggsville, and well known in Quincy, where is affiliated with the local Boy Scout council, is in a critical condition in Blessing hospital, with a broken neck. The injury occurred while young Dinsmore was swimming in McGee creek, half a mile east of the old covered bridge, near Griggsville, Sunday afternoon. he had been diving in the middle of the creek, where the water is deep, but for his last dive got too near the shore, where the water is but a foot and a half deep. He struck on his head, fracturing the fifth cervical vertebrae.Condition Extremely SeriousReports from attending Quincy physician Monday noon were that Dinsmore's condition is extremely serious. He is paralyzed from the waist down, and was running a temperature, during the morning of 108 degrees. His recovery was believed impossible.Dinsmore, with a Henson boy, went to the creek Sunday afternoon for a swim. On their way they were over taken by J. L. King of Griggsville, who accompanied them. After Dinsmore's accident, King and Henson got him out of the water and called a physician from Griggsville. He gave it as his opinion that the boy's neck was broken, and advised that he be brought to the QUincy hospital at once. X-rays showed the fracture of the vertebra.\

INJURY FATAL TO GRIGGSVILLE HIGH STUDE


James Dinsmore, of Griggsville, died in Blessing hospital, Tuesday morning at 4:45 o'clock. He came to his death from a broken neck and a fracture of the third cervical vertebrae, due to an accident while diving in shallow water in McGee creek near Griggsville, Sunday afternoon, according to the verdict of a coroner's jury which met at the Swank-Zehender funeral home, Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock to inquire in to the cause of his death.From the testimony of J. L. King, a Griggsville hardware merchant, who was the sole witness of the accident, it was brought out that young Dinsmore, who is a fourteen-year-old sophomore in the Griggsville high school, had been diving in deep water in company with Mr. King and two others. The four persons were leaving the creek, and had crossed to the opposite side when a splash was heard and Dinsmore was seen to be helpless in the water. His companions found that he had dived into a sand bar not six inches from the top of the water and that he was paralyzed. A physician was called but he was beyond medical aid and was brought to the hospital here where he died early Tuesday morning.The youth was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dinsmore of Griggsville. Surviving are the parents and a brother, Eugene, a student in Griggsville high school. The body was taken to Griggsville at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning where funeral services will be held Thursday. Burial will be in Blue River cemetery at Detroit.

Dinsmore was a Star scout and is well known to Barry scouts. He was in Camp Oehlman for four weeks this summer and was rated as an honor camper. He was a personal friend of young William Watson of Barry, who was in camp at the same time. He was exceptionally diligent at work leading to advancement, and was chosen chief of the Mohawk tribe, one of the scout groups in camp this season. during the period just closed about three weeks ago, he earned seven merit badges, and made a Star scout.
