LINDA (REESE) BARRY , age 68, of Chambersburg, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield. She was born Sept. 27, 1942 in Pittsfield, a daughter of the late Herman “Bill” Reese and Evelyn Martin Reese. She married Roger Webel in 1963 in Perry and later married Albert Berry Feb. 18, 1989 in Griggsville and he survives. Surviving is her husband Al Berry of Chambersburg; her step-father, Roger Reese of Griggsville; her stepmother, Genita Reese; three daughters, Christian Diane Webel of Chicago, Kim A. Kuhn and husband Erwin of Titusville, Fla. and Kathy A. Borkovec and husband John of Chicago; two sons, Gary Webel of Chicago and Keith A. Berry of New Mexico; four grandchildren, Ryan Webel of Chicago, Jessica Bullard of Toluca, Jocelyn Meyers of Eureka and Janelle Smith of Danvers; and several great-grandchildren; four sisters, Judy Bradshaw and husband Harvey of Griggsville, Jacqueline Richmond and husband Phil of Table Grove, Audrey Martin and husband Murray of Fish Hook and Debbie Reese of Griggsville; .a brother, John Clough and wife Susan of Griggsville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her step-father, Alfred Clough. Linda was a 1960 graduate of Griggsville High School and was a graduate of Gem City Business College in Quincy. Following college she worked for a law firm in Quincy and later for Prudential Insurance in Bloomington and recently for John Wood Community College before her retirement in 1992. She was a member of the Perry United Methodist Church where she was active in the Methodist Women, and the “Monday Dinner Crew” at the church. She was also a member of the Perry American Legion Auxiliary where she chaired the Legion’s essay contest, poster contests at local schools and Santa’s visit to Perry , a past girl scout leader, a member of Pittsfield Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Quincy Doll Club, Griggsville Genealogical and Historical Society, very active in the Prairieland Historical Society in Jacksonville, was past Grand Worthy President and Grand Worthy Secretary of the Universal Craftsman Council of Engineers of the United States and Canada as well as Peoria Council of Engineers, Perry Pioneer Day Committee and on the Pike County Fall Color Drive Committee. Linda also played organ or piano in several area nursing homes. Linda loved to write and was an author on several bibliographies of local Pike County residents and in addition made several informational books regarding grave location and obituaries in many area cemeteries. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, at the Perry United Methodist Church in Perry. Burial will be in Griggsville Cemetery.

CORDIA BILLINGS - Rev. Wendall, pastor of the M. E. church was called to New Hartford on Thursday to conduct the funeral services in connection with the burial of Miss Cordie Billings of that place. The deceased was 26 years of age and was ill only a short time of pneumonia. She was a kind and attractive young lady and will be greatly missed by a large circle of relatives and friends. The mother is so prostrated with grief that she is reported very ill. The interment took place in the Prairie Mound Cemetery.

FRANK BILLINGS , who has been blacksmithing in this place for some time, died at Webb's hotel on Sunday after an illness of only a few days of brain trouble. Mr. Billings home is in New Hartford. His family was called to his bedside a few hours before he died. He leaves a wife and several children, an aged mother, one sister and 3 brothers. The deceased was a Modern Woodman. The remains were moved to the home in New Hartford on Monday morning where the funeral services took place.

PAULA A. BILLINGS , 51 of New Canton, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. She was born March 1, 1959 in Hannibal, Mo, a daughter of Harvey and Bessie Mixer Harrison. She married Kevin Billings Aug.17, 1979 in the Barry Baptist Church in Barry and he survives. Paula was a member of the New Canton United Methodist Church.She was employed as a teachers aid at Hull Elementary School and later at Western Elementary School in Barry. She was a graduate of Gem City Business College and John Wood Community College. Paula enjoyed baking, word search puzzles and flower gardening. Her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life. Survivors include her husband, Kevin Billings of New Canton; one son, Bill Billings of New Canton; two daughters, Amanda (husband Jeremy) Power of Hannibal, Mo. and Emily Billings of New Canton; four brothers, Harvey (Joyce) Harrison of Hannibal, George Harrison of Barry, Jerry(Rhonda) Harrison of Bluffs, Harry (Roberta) Harrison of Dayton, Ohio; four sisters, Mary (Jerry) Schultz of New Canton, Linda (Barry) House of Chatham, Brenda (Dwayne) Borrowman of Kinderhook and Rosette (John) Lister of Barry; two grandchildren Jeremiah and Will Power. She was preceded by her parents and a sister and brother in law Shirley and Butch Sturtevant. Funeral services were Saturday, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Shelia Kelly officiating. Burial was at Shearer Cemetery at New Canton. Friends called at the Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry Saturday from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m. Memorials are to the New Canton United Methodist Church or Shearer Cemetery

MRS. WALLACE BILLINGS , died at her home, a few miles east of this place, at 6 o'clock Monday morning, after a lingering illness of tuberculosis. Besides her husband, she leaves one daughter, Eva, aged 13 years, and her aged parents, Oswald Hillman and wife, and two sisters, Mrs. William McCann and Mrs. John Lowery, both residing in this vicinity. She was an honored member of the R.N.A. in this place. The funeral will take place in the New Hartford Christian Church tomorrow, the deceased being a member of that church. Rev. Pearson of Nebo will officiate. The burial will take place at Prairie Mound Cemetery, under the auspices of the R.N.A.

MARSHALL RAY BLACK - 65, of rural Rockport, died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at his home. Marshall was born April 23, 1944, in Rockport, a son of James E., Jr. and Zelma D. Myers Black. He married Evelyn Jane Batz June 6, 1964 at the Pittsfield Christian Church and she survives. Marshall was a life long carpenter, starting his career with Leon Smith in Pittsfield and later becoming a general contractor. He had just retired this year from Black Construction. Marshall was also keenly interested in all types of speciality farming. In earlier years he served as a Cub Scout Master and a Little League coach. Marshall enjoyed attending high school sporting events, especially when his son and later, his grandchildren, were participating. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing, hunting and trapping and was an accomplished painter of wildlife and landscape scenes. Marshall was a graduate of Pittsfield High School and a member of the Rockport Christian Church, Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Evelyn J. Black of rural Rockport; a son, Kenneth (wife Carla) Black of rural Pleasant Hill; three grandchildren, Macey, Madison and Brian Black all of rural Pleasant Hill, a brother, Dale (wife Linda) Black of rural Rockport, two sisters, Ilah Higgins of Ottawa and Melanie (husband William) Padavic of Quincy, also several nieces and nephews. Marshall was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Deanna K. Black. Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 19 at 10 a.m. at the Lummis Funeral Hone in Pleasant Hill conducted by Jerry Rodhouse. Burial followed at the Samuel Taylor Cemetery near Rockport. Visitation was held at the funeral home Thursday evening from 4 - 8 p.m. Memorials my be made to the American Cancer Society. Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill handled arrangements.

RAY BLACK - Funeral services were held in the Christian Church at Rockport Thursday afternoon for Ray Black who was killed in an accident at Marblehead Lime Quarry last week. Rev. Lee Baldwin had charge of the service and burial was in Samuel Taylor cemetery. Close friends were pallbearers and were Russell Myers, Bill Morrow, Wilbur Morrow, George Garner, Morris Peecher and Wellington McFadden, all of Rockport, and Ernest Utech and Bill Brokaw of St. Charles, Mo. Ray Black was born at Milton, Illinois, July 27, 1921 and departed this life at the early age of 25 years, 9 months and 22 days. He was the son of James Everett Black and Flora Johnson Black, and was the grandson of the late James E. and Rachel E. Black who for many years lived on a farm near Summer Hill. He was married to Evelyn May Blacketer December 6, 1944. He served four years in the United States Naval Air Corps where he attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Since his discharge on Sept. 26, 1945 he and his wife have lived in Quincy and Lima, Illinois, and he was employed at the Marblehead Lime Co. where he accidently met his death. His friendly smile and genial personality won him many friends and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Evelyn Mae Black, his father, Everett Black of Rockport, his mother, Mrs. Flora Trower of St. Louis, Mo. two brothers, Junior of Rockport, Mo., Black of St. Louis, two sisters, Mrs. Mildred Tompkins of Galesburg and Mrs. Madeline Neunebell of St. Louis, his stepparents, Mrs. Everett Black and C. H. Trower, three step-brothers, Joseph, Jesse and James Mulkins of Rockport and Mrs. Irving Lewis of Barry and several nieces and nephews.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Ray Black ,26, of Lima, employed by the Marblehead Lime company, was instantly killed Monday afternoon at 5:30 when a 1947 Koering Dumptor, a large dump truck, overturned and pinned him beneath it at the upper quarry of the lime company. The quarry is about a quarter of a mile south of the foot of Eighth. Black was dead on arrival at St. Mary hospital at 6. According to a report made to Coroner Eugene Johnston and police, Black was driving the empty truck into the quarry which is on the east side of the road. The heavy vehicle struck a small abutment and the dirt slipped, hurling the truck from 15 to 20 feet down into a ditch. Workmen with shovels quickly dug Black from underneath the truck and summoned the police ambulance. It is believed Black was dead when placed in the ambulance. Examination at the hospital showed Black sustained a crushed chest, punctured lung, fractured skull and numerous abrasions and cuts. The inquest was to be held in the Cosgrove funeral home in Payson this afternoon at 1 C.S.T. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Black moved to Lima from Quincy last October and purchased a home there. A sister of Mrs. Black, Mrs. Milton Garner, also lives in Lima, but Mr. Black's family lives in Rockport.

ZELMA D. (MYERS) BLACK , 84, of Rockport died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, at her home in Rockport. She was born Jan. 14, 1919 in Rockport to Harry and Laura Mooney Myers. She married James E. Black Jr. May 21, 1938 in Bowling Green, Mo., and he died July 1, 1993. Mrs. Black was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Pleasant Hill High School and a member of Rockport Christian Church, where she was active with the Ladies Aid Society. She enjoyed fishing, sewing, reading and spending time with her family. Survivors include two sons, Marshall (wife Evelyn) Black and Dale (wife Linda) Black, both of Rockport; two daughters, Ilah Higgins of Peru and Melanie (husband William) Padavic of Quincy; one brother, Marshall (wife Evelyn) Myers of Quincy; two sisters, Velda Blackorby and Leota (husband James) Garner, both of Barry; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother. Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 2 p.m., at the Ward-Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill with the Rev. Bill Walton officiating. Burial will be at Samuel Taylor Cemetery in Rockport. Visitation was Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are to Rockport Christian Church or the Rockport Christian Church Ladies Aide Society.

KYLE WAYNE BOARMAN , 20, of Toulon, Illinois died Friday, July 6, 2007, in Towanda Township, McLean County, following a motorcycle accident. He was born July 5, 1987, in Peoria, Illinois the son of John W. and Roberta Ator Boarman.Surviving are his parents, a brother, Ryan (and fiancee Ann Green), grandmothers, Ruth Ator and Patricia Boarman, great-grandmother, Ruth Maloney, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Wayne Ator and James Boarman. Kyle graduated from Stark County High School in 2005, where he played football and was on the track team. He was selected for the Peoria Journal Star Honor Roll Track Meet in 2004 in the 3,200 meter run. He attended Black Hawk College and had recently enrolled for the fall semester at Illinois State University. In 2005, Kyle joined the Illinois Army National Guard 233rd Military Police Company in Springfield, Illinois. Kyle worked for Menards in Kewanee, Illinois for a year and had just accepted a position with Coca Cola in Bloomington, Illinois where he last worked Thursday. He enjoyed deer hunting and custom cars. He was a member of Toulon United Methodist Church.

EDNA (SANDERS) BREEDLOVE , 99, of Hannibal, died at 10:05 p.m. Sunday, May 3, 2009 at Willow Care Center in Hannibal. Graveside Services and Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at Pittsfield West Cemetery in Pittsfield, Illinois. Rev. Steve Barker will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home. Mrs. Breedlove was born September 25, 1909, in New Hartford, Illinois to Otto J. and Goldie Moyer Sanders. She was married to Thomas L. Breedlove on May 5, 1934 in Hannibal, MO. He preceded her in death March 29, 1990. Survivors include 1 Daughter, Barbara R. Hutchens of Quincy, IL, 1 Granddaughter, Teri Koch (Dennis), 2 Great-Grandchildren, Jason & Joel Koch. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 sister; Myrtle Sanders, one brother; J. Ray Sanders , one brother in infancy and one son in law; Charles Hutchens. Mrs. Breedlove worked for the International Shoe Company and warehouse for nearly 50 years. She was a Foster Grandparent at Mississippi Valley State School. Mrs. Breedlove enjoyed playing cards and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Fan. She was a member of First Christian Church were she taught Sunday School for many years and was in the Ladies Guild. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church in care of the James O'Donnell Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Dennis Koch, Jason Koch, Joel Koch, Dick Bartlett, Lloyd Bugh and Al Kennett.

LOLA (McLAIN) BULL , 87, died at his home in Bowling Green, MO, Wednesday, August 5, 1970. He was born at Hardin, IL, April 12, 1883, a son of James and Mary Ellen Plummer Bull. He was married to Lola Margaret McLain who preceded him in death. He lived in the Pleasant Hill community before moving to Bowling Green. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Alma Lent of Bowling Green; 4 grandsons, a granddaughter and 16 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Kirks Funeral Chapel in Bowling Green at 2 Fri. afternoon. The Rev. Walter Mitchell officiated. Burial was in Crescent Heights Cemetery at Pleasant Hill.

ALVIN R. BURDICK , 73, of Baylis, IL, a retired farmer, died Mon., Aug. 10, 1981, at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, IL. Mr. Burdick was born in Hadley, IL, May 3, 1908, a son of Elmer and Nancy McKinney Burdick. He married Berniece Fusselman Feb. 11, 1933 in Pittsfield, IL. She survives. Also surviving are one brother, Russell of Barry, IL and 2 sisters, Mrs. Geneva Hull of Barry, IL and Mrs. Ethel Butler of California. Services will be held at 2 pm today, Wednesday, in the Baylis Church of the United Brethren, conducted by the Rev. Clifford Phillips. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery at Barry. Funeral arrangements were handled by the McNabb Funeral Home in Barry.

BERNIECE GERTRUDE (FUSSELMAN) BURDICK , 79, of New Salem, IL, formerly of Barry, IL, died Sat., May 28, 1994, in Blessing Hospital. Mrs. Burdick was born Oct. 17, 1914 in Plainville, IL, a daughter of Troy and Minnie Askew Fusselman. She married Alvin R. Burdick Feb. 11, 1933. He died Aug. 10, 1981. Mrs. Burdick was a member of Barry First Christian Church. Survivors include 3 sisters, Isabel McCarty of Knox City, MO; Edna Curtis of Lewisville, TX; and Florence Cawthon of Griggsville, IL; and a brother, Robert Fusselman of Baylis, IL. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, 2 brothers, and 2 sisters. Services were Tues. in Kirgan Funeral Home. Burial was in Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry. Memorials may be made Barry First Christian Church.

AZUBAH L. BURGE , 79, of Pleasant Hill, IL, died at 10:30 pm Mon., Nov. 20, 1978 in the home of a daughter here. Mrs. Burge was born at Meppen, IL, on Nov. 15, 1899, a daughter of Jefferson A. and Alice A. Hayes Fuller. She was married on Aug. 6, 1921, at Hardin, IL, to Charles A. Burge who died on May 11, 1969. She was a member of the Church of Christ and the Rebekah Lodge of Pleasant Hill. Surviving are a son, Ray of Pleasant Hill; 3 daughters, Mrs. Marion (Velma) Goewey of rural Nebo, IL, Mrs. Neal (Melissa) Guthrie of Pleasant Hill, IL and Mrs. Tommy (Anna Lee) Walker of Hallsville, MO; 5 brothers, Oran and William Fuller of Alton, Ray of Hardin, Carl of Keokuk, IA and August of Brighton; 2 sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Kraut of Hardin and Alice Haynes of Alton; 7 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a sister, a brother and a grandson. Services will be Friday at 1:30 pm in the Ward Lummis funeral home conducted by the Rev. Earl Lewis. Burial will be in Crescent Heights Cemetery.

CHARLES AMOS BURGE , 73, of Pleasant Hill, IL, died Sun., May 11, 1969 at 12:15 AM in Illini Hospital in Pittsfield, IL. Mr. Burge was born Dec. 20, 1895 at Belleview, IL, a son of Daniel and Melissa Adcox Burge. He was married to Azubah Lee Fuller Aug. 6, 1921 at Hardin, IL. He was a veteran of World War 1, and a member of the Church of Christ at Pleasant Hill. He engaged in farming and operated a service station in Pleasant Hill for several years. Funeral services were held in Ward funeral chapel in Pleasant Hill Tues. at 2:00 pm, with Bro. Jesse Smith officiating. Burial was in Crescent Heights Cemetery. Surviving are the widow; a son, Ray Burge of Pleasant Hill; 3 daughters, Mrs. Neal (Melissa) Guthrie, and Mrs. Gerald (Anna Lee) McGlasson of Pleasant Hill; and Mrs. Marion (Velma) Goewey of Belleview; a brother, George Burge of Pleasant Hill; a sister, Mrs. Blanche Clendenny of Mozier and 7 grandchildren.

ELIZABETH C. (WEAVER) BURGE , 90, of Wilmington, CA, formerly of Pleasant Hill, IL, died at 4:55 am Sat., April 6, 1985 at her home in Wilmington after an extended illness. Mrs. Burge was born in IL on March 31, 1895, the daughter of John and Molly Weaver. She was a homemaker and member of the Pleasant Hill Christian Church. She was married to George W. Burge, who died in 1973. Surviving are 3 sons, George E. Burge of St. Petersburg, FL, Ernest Burge of Rockford, and Otis Burge of Paradise, CA; 2 daughters, Bernita Williams of Wilmington, CA and Leona Wasson of Portage, IN; 1 sister, Freda McGuire of Carrollton; 21 grandchildren; and 33 great grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 am Thurs. in the Ward-Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill, conducted by the Rev. Norman Conklin. Burial will be in Crescent Heights Cemetery at Pleasant Hill. Memorials may be made to the Christian Church.

ERNEST LASVASTRAN BURGE , 87, of Rockford died Sunday, March 12, 2006 in Oakridge Manor. He was born March 8, 1919, in Hardin, IL, to George and Elizabeth (Weaver) Burge. He graduated in 1940 from Pleasant Hill High School, where he was a 4 year letterman in football. He formerly farmed with his family in Pike County. He moved to Rockford in 1948 and was employed by Rockford products for 33 years, retiring in 1981. He was a board member of Riverside School and a member of Evergreen Covenant Church. He enjoyed 25 years of retirement, loved the outdoors, duck hunting, always having a large garden and manicured yard, and traveling to visit family in Pike county. Ernest especially enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters, family and watching western movies. Survivors include a son, Ernest L. (wife Terry) Burge Jr. of Roscoe; a daughter, Judith Jenkins of Seattle, WA; two granddaughters, Sarah Burge of New Haven , CT; and Amy Jenkins of Seattle; a brother, Otis (wife Helen) Burge of Magalia, CA; sisters, Bernita Williams of Long Beach, CA and Leona Wasson of Portage, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents, a brother, George; and a sister, Ossie Glidden. Services will be held at 7:30 pm today, Wednesday, March 15, in Delehanty Funeral Home Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from 5:30 to service time; the Rev. William Richard Kerr Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Wells Cemetery, Pleasant Hill. Memorials may be sent to Evergreen Covenant church.

GEORGE BURGE , 81, of Pleasant Hill, IL, died Sat., June 30, 1973 at 11:15 pm in Illini community Hospital in Pittsfield, IL. Mr. Burge was born near Belleview, IL, Nov, 17, 1891, a son of Daniel and Melissa Adcox Burge. He was a member of the Church of God. He married Elizabeth Weaver June 1, 1917, in Bowling Green, MO. Surviving are the widow; 3 sons, George of Westmont, Ernest of Rockford and Otis of Carson, CA; 2 daughters, Mrs. Earl (Bernita) Williams of Wilmington, CA, Mrs. L. H. Howard Bundick officiated. Burial was in Crescent Heights Cemetery.

RAY O. BURGE , age 87, of Pleasant Hill died Monday, July 20, 2009, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ray was born June 14, 1922 near Meppen in Calhoun County, a son of Charles and Azubah Fuller Burge. He married Imogene Hoaglin June 2, 1949 in Bowling Green, Mo. and she survives. Ray had been employed by Harry Smith Oil as a truck driver in his earlier years and was a long time employee of the Gamble Store in Pleasant Hill. He was an Amy veteran of WW II having served in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters and was a member of the Pleasant Hill American Legion Post 1048. Ray was a trustee for Pleasant Hill Township and he enjoyed fish­ing. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Imogene Burge of Pleasant Hill,three sisters, Velma Goewey and Melissa Guthrie, both of Pleasant Hill and Anna Lee Walker of Rogers, Ark and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 24 at 11 a.m. at the Lummis Funeral Home conduct­ed by Bro. Don flannel. Burial with military honors, will follow at Crescent Heights Cemetery in Pleasant Hill. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Friday. Methorials may be made to the Crescent Heights Cemetery Association. Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill is handling the arrangements.

MARY MILDRED BURGESS , 88, of Kansas City, KS died Sun., Dec. 27, 1998 at the Overland Park Manor Nursing Facility. A native of Pike county, she was born Oct. 10, 1910 near Pleasant Hill, IL, the daughter of Clarence and Clara Lord Bowman. She attended local schools and lived in both Griggsville and Barry until her marriage in 1930 to Jesse Burgess. Mrs. Burgess, a homemaker, had lived in Kansas City many years and was a member of the Olivet Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 3 sons, Norman, Frank and Bruce. Survivors include sons, Clarence M. Burgess of Overland Park, KS; Robert D. Burgess of Austin, TX; and Dennis K. Burgess, Prairie Village, KS; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and several cousins in the Pike County, Illinois and Pike County, Missouri areas. Funeral services were held Dec. 30 at the Maple Hill Funeral Home with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery.

FLOYD M. BURNS , 91, of Pleasant Hill, IL, a retired farmer and apple grower, died Sat., Sept. 21, 1991 in Illini Community Hospital. Born Oct. 28, 1899 in Belleview, IL, Mr. Burns was a son of Joseph M. and Sidney J. Higgerson Burns. A veteran of World War II, he was a member of the Pleasant Hill American Legion Post 1048. He attended Nebo Church of Christ. On Feb. 28, 1958, he married Erma I. Martin in Pleasant Hill, IL. She died April 22, 1989. He also was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Cecil and James and an infant sister. He was the last of his family. Several cousins survive. Services were conducted at 11 am Tues. in the Ward Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill by brother David Ford. Burial was in Poor Cemetery near Mozier.

JAMES E. BURNS , 89, of Pleasant Hill, IL, a retired farmer and apple grower, died Sat., August 24, 1991 in Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, IL. Born Jan 10, 1902 in Belleview, IL, he was a son of Joseph M. and Sidney J. Higgerson Burns. He married Jessie Martin June 9, 1958, in Pittsfield. IL. She preceded him in death Oct. 27, 1975. Mr. Burns is survived by 1 brother, Floyd Burns of Pleasant Hill, IL. He was preceded in death by 1 brother and 1 sister. Services were conducted at 2 pm Monday in the Ward Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill by Brother Wilson Ramsey. Burial was in Poore Cemetery near Mozier. Memorials may be made to Poore Cemetery or the Pleasant Hill Volunteer Ambulance Unit.

ADA S. BYBEE , passed away at her home here Tuesday afternoon, October 16, 1945, at 1:35 o'clock. Her death was caused by complications resulting from a fall in which she sustained a fracture of the hip. Mrs. Bybee was one of Pleasant Hill's most beloved and prominent citizens. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Zerenberg, and was born on the Zerenberg Farm northeast of Pleasant Hill, on February 6, 1861. She was 84 years, 8 months and 10 days of age. Her entire life was spent in this community, where she was connected with many of the business enterprises and farming interests. Her husband, the late John Bybee was engaged in the mercantile business here for many years. Mrs. Bybee was a faithful member of the Baptist Church in Pleasant Hill, and was a regular attendant at all church services, Sunday School and Ladies Aid Meeting until failing health in her declining years caused her to retire from the work she loved. She was charitable in gifts to all worthy causes, and in her assistance to all in the time of need. Surviving are a son, V.P. Bybee of Long Beach, CA, two grand daughters, Mrs. France Maurin of New Orleans, LA, and Mrs. Natalie Lenzi of Carlinville, IL. A daughter in law, Mrs. Edna Essman of Center, MO, came to Pleasant Hill to care for her during her last illness. Two sons, Lou and Frank Bybee and a daughter, Ethel preceded the mother in death. No definite funeral arrangements will be made until the son, Virgil P. Bybee, who is enroute to Pleasant Hill, arrives, however the service will be held in the Baptist Church in Pleasant Hill the first of the week.

CARL RUSSELL BYBEE , 60, of Pleasant Hill, IL died in Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville, IL at 6:15 am Saturday, April 22, 1972. Mr. Bybee was a farmer. He was born at Pleasant Hill, IL May 1, 1911, a son of Russell and Lora DeCamp Bybee. He married Florence Dunham in St. Charles, MO, Feb. 2, 1935. Services were held Monday, April 24, at 11 am in Ward Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Joe Maynard officiating. Burial was in Crescent Heights Cemetery. Surviving are the widow and a sister, Mrs. Inez Bliss of Louisiana, MO. His father and mother preceded him in death.

DELFORD HAYDEN BYBEE , 86, of Montclair, CA, died January 16, at San Antonio Community Hospital, Upland, California. He was born in Pleasant Hill, Illinois, April 17 ,1901, a son of Charles and Sarah Gresham Bybee. He is survived by many nieces and nephews of California and Illinois. He was preceded in death by his wife, Zelma, January 4, 1988. Services were conducted at 11:00 am January 22, at Draper Mortuary in Ontario, CA. Burial was in Bellevue Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer society.

OPAL BYBEE , 71, of Granite City, died Sunday in Granite City. Mrs. Bybee was born Feb. 13, 1896, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Eddins of Pleasant Hill. She had lived in Granite City for the past four years. She lived at Pleasant Hill before moving to a farm near Pittsfield. Her husband, Russell Bybee preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Edward Lenzi, of Granite City and four grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted in the Plattner Funeral Chapel in Pittsfield, Tuesday afternoon at 2 with the Rev. Joe Maynard officiating. Burial was in West Cemetery at Pittsfield.
