DOLLY M. BAILEY , 87, of Hull, Ill., died at 2:35 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at the Barry Community Care Center. Funeral services will be at noon Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. The Rev. Tim Goodman will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Tuesday until time of services at the funeral home. Dolly was born March 10, 1922, in Perry to Edward and Mabel Audrey Shaver. She was married for 33 years to Kenneth L. Bailey. He preceded her in death. Survivors include four nieces, Karen Waters, Rita Wilson, Connie Pope and Rhonda Zumwalt; one nephew, Carl Young; numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; and a special friend, Rudy. Dolly was preceded in death by two brothers, Nelson and Raymond Shaver; two sisters, Opal Ralph and Lucille Young; and one niece, Linda Lain. Dolly was a farmer’s wife, a 54-passenger charter bus coordinator in Hannibal, and worked at Motorola in Quincy, Ill., for 10 years. She loved to play bingo and dominoes. Dolly also enjoyed visiting the gambling boats and especially spending time with family and friends. She was a Christian by faith. Pallbearers will be Jamie Wilson, Larry Marine, Mike Darr, James Lain, Joey Wilson and Brian Fuqua. Honorary pallbearers will be John Wilson, Jason Darr, Brian Fuqua II, Nicholas Pope, Wayne Zumwalt, Jessica Darr, Emma Wilson, Alex Wilson and Andrew Wilson. Memorials may be made to the Hull Community Church, in care of the James O’Donnell Funeral Home.

Carlin Resident of Emporia, Kansas. Survived by his wife; three sons: Lyndle Beattie of Emporia, Kans., Earl Beattie Jr. of Pleasant Hill, and Vernon E. Beattie of Overland Park, Kans.; seven grand and five g-grandchildren.

EARL J. BEATTIE , 78, of rural Pleasant Hill, a retired farmer and longtime employee of Hercules Manufacturing in Louisiana, MO, died at 2:29 pm Thurs. Oct. 17, 1996, in Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield. Mr. Beattie was born Jan. 3, 1918, in Rockport, a son of Earl J. and Letha J. Tobias Beattie. He married Olga M. Ramirez March 27, 1944, in Cartago, Costa Rica. She survives. Mr. Beattie was an Air Force veteran of WW II, serving as a tail gunner. He was a member of the Pittsfield American Legion, Pike County Farm Bureau, Country Couple, and played baseball and basketball semi-professionally and was an avid tennis player. Survivors include a son, Lt. Col. Mark Beattie of Honolulu; a daughter, Sonja Beattie of Denver; 2 brothers, Lyndle Beattie of Emporia, KS, and Vernon Beattie of Overland Park, KS; 5 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Beattie. Services will be conducted at 2 pm Mon. in the Ward Lummis Funeral Home by Bro. Wayne Ward. Burial with military honors will be in Summer Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 tonight and Mon. preceding the service. Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Hill Volunteer Ambulance Unit.

VERNA (WARREN) BEATTIE , 69, died Feb. 12, 1990, at her home in Larned, KS. Born Oct. 20, 1920 at Garnett, she was the daughter of Clinton F. and Hazel V. Huffman Warren. A longtime Larned resident she was a schoolteacher and a homemaker. She was a member of the Episcopal Church and PEO Chapter CG, both of Emporia. On June 5, 1940 she married Lyndle Raymond Beattie, at Mont Ida, KS, he survives. Other survivors include a son, Gareth W. Lajunta, CO; a daughter, Lynda R. Boomer, Wichita; 2 brothers, Calvin Warren, San Jose, CA, and W. Hoyt Warren, Larned; and 4 grandchildren. A memorial service was held last Wed. at the Morell Funeral Home, Larned, with Rev. Reinhold Schmidt presiding. She will be cremated. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Fund in care of Morell Funeral Home, Larned, KS.

DELLA VIVIAN (WILLIAMS) BEATTY , 74, of Pittsfield, died at 12:45 AM Sat, Feb. 14, 1981, in Illini Community Hospital. Mrs. Beatty was born May 12, 1906 in Summer Hill, a daughter of Arthur and Gertrude Baughman Williams. She married Leland Waggoner in Pittsfield. He preceded her in death. She married Cicero Beatty in Nov. 1966 in Griggsville, he died in Jan 1969. She was a 25 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving are a step-daughter, Mrs. John (Carolyn) Sheppard of Pittsfield; a brother, Lorraine Williams of Barry; a sister, Mrs. Amanda Ballinger of Jacksonville; and several step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister. Services will be held at 2 pm Mon. in the Niebur Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Pittsfield West Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Heart Association.

MILDRED A. BECKTELL , 96, of the Pittsfield Eastside Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center and formerly of New Salem, IL , passed away Friday, November 6, 2009 at the Center. She was born June 12, 1913 in Naples , IL , a daughter to Albert T. and Julia F. Nunn Mayes. She was married to James E. Rodgers and Guy E. Test. On November 12, 1955, she married Kermit Becktell and he preceded her in death February 28, 1976. Mildred was of the Methodist faith and in her earlier years worked at the grocery store in New Salem, the Brown Shoe Factory and Spurgeon Clothing Store in Pittsfield . She enjoyed gardening, quilting, crocheting and was a St. Louis Cardinals fan. Surviving are one daughter, Linda Test of Pittsfield and one son, Jim Rodgers of New Salem, IL., two grandchildren, six great grandsons and one great granddaughter. Two brothers, Virgil and Lee Mays, preceded her in death. Per her wishes, cremation rites will be accorded with private services being held at a later date.

ROBERT ROSS BERGMAN , 82, of Corona, CA, formerly of Griggsville and Pittsfield, died Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009 at his home. He was born January, 21, 1927 in Griggsville, a son of Richard and Dorothy Shinn Bergman. He graduated from Griggsville High School and served in the United States Army from 1945-1946 stationed in Korea as a radio operator. After returning to Griggsville he and his family started Bergman Meat Packing Company. The plant later moved to Pittsfield where he and his family operated the business until January, l986. Bob then moved to Las Vegas and later moved to Corona, CA to be closer to his son. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, a past president of the Old Orchard Country Club, served on the Pike County Draft Board, and in earlier years worked with the Cub Scouts. Bob was an avid St. Louis Cardinal and Illini basketball fan. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and playing cards and billards. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. Survivors include two sons, Robert D. Bergman and his wife, Gail of Oswego and Brad Bergman of Mira Loma, CA and a daughter, Cassie Black, and her husband, Roy, of Palmyra; five grandsons, Robb Richmiller of Kansas City, Chris Bergman and his wife, Neilly, of Plainfield, Bryan Black of Kansas City, Joseph Bergman and Amanda of Oswego, and Kenny Bergman of Corona, CA; three great-grandchildren, Brayden and Kenzie Bergman of Plainfield and Alexis Bergman of Oswego; and a brother, Phil Bergman and his wife, Sharon, of Hannibal. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; Richard Bergman and James Bergman; and a sister, Barbara Windmiller. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday December 5, 2009 at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Burial will be in Pittsfield West Cemetery where military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Friday at the funeral home. EDITH (SMITH) BERGMAN , 88, of Perry died at 8:30 p.m. Tues. (Feb. 23, 1988) in Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville. Mrs. Bergman was born Feb. 16, 1900, in Brown County, a daughter of John W. and Clara Thiele Smith. She married Clifford H. Bergman in 1921 in Perry. He died in 1984. Mrs. Bergman was a member of Perry United Methodist Church. She and her husband lived much of their married life in the Grout community before moving to Perry. Survivors include three sons, Donald of Perry, Harvey of Quincy and Fred of Chandlerville; two daughters, Mrs. James (Mardon) Clark of Cadiz, Ky., and Mrs. Kathryn Conrad of Perry; two sisters, Mrs. Glenna Young of Springfield and Mrs. Helen Read of Perry; 22 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Clara Rose Jackson; a grandchild, Parks Jackson; two sisters, Bertha Smith and Alice Read; and two brothers, Oliver and Wayne Smith. Services were conducted...Friday in Skinner funeral Home in Griggsville by the Rev. James C. McClarey. Burial was in the McCord Cemetery in Perry....

ELSIE ELIZABETH (MILLER) BERGMAN , age 87, of Zionsville, Indiana and formerly of Quincy, Il. and Pike County, Il. died Saturday morning October 30, 2009 at Zionsville Meadows in Zionsville, Indiana. She was born October 31, 1921 in Billings, Montana daughter of the late Henry and Eva Miller who came to this country as German immigrants. She married Richard S. Bergman on January 19, 1947 in Griggsville, Il. and he preceded her in death January 9, 1982. Surviving is a daughter, Bonnie Ambrose and husband Greg of Lansing, IL; two sons, Steven Bergman and wife Connie of Quincy, Il. and Richard Bergman and wife Brooke of Carmel, Indiana; six grandchildren, Lucas Bergman and wife Cristin of Chicago Heights, IL, Kate Bergman of Quincy, IL, Rebecca Jones and husband Edward of Dyer, Indiana, Rachel Bergman of New York, New York, Kyle Ambrose of Chicago, Il., and Evan Bergman of Carmel, Indiana; two great-grandchildren, Henry Jones of Dyer, Indiana and Audrey Bergman of Chicago Heights, IL; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a infant daughter, Barbara Jean Bergman; and four brothers, Leo, Walter, Wilber, and Eddie Miller. Mrs. Bergman was a graduate of Billings High School in Billings, Montana and attended business college in Montana. Her secretarial training led to jobs in Jacksonville, Florida and a stint with the American Red Cross at Ft. Lewis, Washington during W.W. IL Following the war, Elsie returned to Billings, Montana where she met her husband moving then to Griggsville, Il. where Richard and his family started Bergman Meat Packing Company. Elsie and her husband moved to Pittsfield in 1957 as the company was building a new plant. She worked for a time for the Credit Bureau. Following Richard’s death, she moved to Quincy to be closer to her children. Elsie was a golfer and enjoyed bowling, traveling, cooking, sewing and playing bridge at the Women’s City Club in Quincy, Il. She was a member of Melrose Chapel United Methodist Church in Quincy. Her three children and their familis were truly her most cherished blessing. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday (November 4, 2009) at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL with Rev. Steve Disseler officiating. Burial will be in Pittsfield West Cemetery. GAIL SMITH (SWEETIE) BERGMAN , 59, of 211 S Madison Oswego, died Monday Sept. 12, 2011 at 7:42 a.m. at Rush-Copley Hospital in Aurora, Gail was born June 7,1952, in Pittsfield to Andy and Mardell Miller Smith. She married Robert D. Bergman Oct. 16,1970 in the United Methodist Church in Pittsfield. He survives. Gail loved spending time with her children and grandchildren very much. She loved working in her special flower garden and her love of animals knew no bounds. Also surviving are her two sons Christopher D. and his wife, Neilly, of Plainfield and Joseph Ross of Oswego and three grandchildren: Brayden and Kenzie of Plainfield and Alexis of Oswego. Also surving are three sisters: Patty Grieves (husband George) of Pittsfield, Carol Ruble, (husband Doug) of Hannibal, Mo. and Tina Fullmer, (husband Mark) of Dallas Ga., One brother Jay Smith (wife Trinket) of Pittsfield. Her mother-in-law Ann Bergman of Aurora also survives along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and aunts, uncles and cousins. In lieu of flowers the family asks friends to make contributions to the animal shelter of your choice in her name. She was proceeded in death by her parents and father-in-law, Robert Bergman. Memorial services will be Friday Sept. 16 at 1 p.m at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield. McKeown-Dunn Funeral Home in Oswego is handling arrangements. Family and friends are invited to King Park, immediately following the services to meet with the family and for a celebration of life.

JAMES P. BERGMAN , 71, of Hannibal, died at 11:15 p.m. June 17, 1999, at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Bergman will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Chaplain Susan Bays will officiate. Burial with military rites by the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post 55 will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal. Mr. Bergman was born April 16, 1928, in Quincy, Ill., to Richard and Dorothy Rose Shinn Bergman. He was married to Carol McCann Maddox on Nov. 20, 1971. She survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Teresa Hatten of Winthrop Harbor, Ill., Marcia Gerard of Pittsfield, Ill., and Jill Sheppard of Pleasant Hill, Ill.; two stepdaughters, Marva Hopwood of Hannibal and Denise Roland of Baton Rouge, La.; one stepson, Glenn Maddox of New Richmond, Wis.; two brothers, Robert Bergman of Las Vegas, Nev., and Phil Bergman of Hannibal; seven grandchildren; and seven stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Bergman Jr.; and one sister, Barbara Windmiller. Mr. Bergman was retired vice president of Bergman Meats of Pittsfield. During his retirement he worked at Murphy Motor Company and Commerce Bank. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Pittsfield, the Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post 55, the Elks Club and the Goodfellows Club. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice or donor's choice. Pallbearers will be Cameron Hatten, Brandon Gerard, Billy Gerard, Justin Sheppard, Jonathan Sheppard and Joel Hopwood.

JAMES D. BERGMAN , 58, of Pittsfield, died Friday, Feb. 17, 2011 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. Jim was born in Pittsfield, March 5, 1952, a son of William Henry and Mardell Hancock Bergman. He married Lori Lierly Dec. 13, 1996 at the Detroit Christian Church and she survives. Jim had been employed at United Gilsonite Labs at Jacksonville, as a maintenance supervisor. He enjoyed working and restoring hot rods, woodworking, fishing and his pet cats and dogs. He is survived by his wife, Lori and a son, Aaron Bergman, both of Pittsfield; a brother, Larry (Georgia) Bergman; and two sisters, Sue (Robert) Evans and Donna (Tom) Zumwalt, all from Pittsfield. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 21, at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Rev. John Ruzich officiating and Denny Moore officiating. Interment was in the Pittsfield West Cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday evening, Feb. 20, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield. JEANNE (PORTZLINE) BERGMAN , 74, of Pittsfield and formerly of Griggsville, died late Tues. evening, Oct. 3, 2006 at her daughter's residence in Louisiana, Mo. She was born Jan. 9, 1932 in Girard, a daughter of the late Clifford and Grace Anderson Portzline. She married James "Jim" Bergman in September of 1950. Surviving are 3 daughters, Teresa Hatten (Tim) of Winthrop Harbor, Marcia Gerard (Kenny) of Pittsfield, Jill Sheppard (Mark) of Louisiana, Mo; 7 grandchildren, Cameron Hatten (Jennifer) of Gurnee, Brandon Gerard (Miranda) and Billy and Jamie Gerard, all of Pittsfield, Amanda Pollice (Sal) of Shelbyville, Justin and Jonathon Sheppard both of Louisiana, Mo; 2 great grandchildren, Jayden Pollice and Elijah Pollice, both of Shelbyville; a brother, Jack Portzline of Pittsfield; and 1 nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 brother, Bill Portzline; and 1 nephew, Grant Portzline. Mrs. Bergman was a 1950 graduate of Griggsville High School. She was a past employee of Pittsfield Mental Health Center and Hannibal Mental Health Center. She was also a past employee of the old Owen Care Center in Pittsfield, the Pike County treasurer's office, Griggsville Library and a secretary at Bergman Meat Packing Co. in Pittsfield. Jeanne was also a past volunteer at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield. She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Griggsville and member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Funeral services were held 3 pm Friday at St. James Episcopal Church. Burial was in Griggsville Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Illini Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary or the Griggsville Library.

KENNETH BERGMAN , 87, of Pittsfield , IL passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at the Griggsville Estates in Griggsville , IL . Kenneth was born March 29, 1923 near Baylis, IL a son of Raymond Kenneth Sr. and Mildred R. Crawford Bergman. He married Charlene Bradburn on April 13, 1946 at the Pittsfield United Methodist Church and she survives. Kenneth was a farmer and a seed corn and livestock feed sales representative for numerous years. He was a sales representative for the Hobbit Seed Company, Bear Seed Company and the Columbiana Feed and Mineral Company. He was a member of the Detroit Christian Church, enjoyed fishing, gardening, traveling, and was quite known for giving out peppermint candy. One of his favorite pass times was going to the Cardinal Inn for coffee where he loved joking with the waitresses and visiting with friends. He was a member of the Liberty Farm and Good Road Club, a St. Louis Cardinal fan, Chicago Bulls fan and a NASCAR fan. His wife Charlene of the Griggsville Estates, Griggsville , IL and four children, son, Steve Bergman of Greeley , CO ; Judy (Charlie) Duggins of New Berlin, IL; Jane (Tom) Moore of Longmont, CO and Sandy (Steve) Smothers of Pittsfield, survives him. Thirteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren and sisters, Dorothy Lippincott of Pittsfield and Eleanor Braun of Gulfport , MS also survive. His parents and a sister, Elizabeth Fudge, preceded Kenneth in death. Services are being held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 5, 2010 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Pastor Eric Moore, Mike Evans and Tom Barger officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery . A lunch will be served for the family and friends at the Cardinal Inn in Pittsfield after interment. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Detroit Christian Church or Griggsville Estates Activity Fund.

MARDELL (HANCOCK) BERGMAN , 73, of Pittsfield, died Wed. evening, Oct. 16, 1996, at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield. Born Aug. 14, 1923 in Pittsfield, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Mabel Curless Hancock. She married William Henry Bergman on Feb. 17, 1946 in Pittsfield. He preceded her in death May 21, 1957. Surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs. Robert (Sue) Evans and Mrs. Tom (Donna) Zumwalt, both of Pittsfield; 2 sons, Larry Bergman and wife Georgia and Jim Bergman and wife Lori, both of Pittsfield; nine grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Margie Wickellof St. Ann, MO and Mrs. Bud (Eileen) McLaughlin of Barry. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and 1 sister, Mary Lou Hancock. Mrs. Bergman was a graduate of Pittsfield High School and was employed in the office of Brown Shoe Company in Pittsfield for many years. She had resided in both the Barry Community Care Center and the Pittsfield Manor Nursing Home in Pittsfield for the past 17 years. She was a member of the Pittsfield First United Methodist Church. Funeral services were held at 10 am Sat. at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, with Pastor Ken Mitchell and Pastor David Detty officiating. Burial was in Pittsfield West Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

NORMA JEAN (LANIER) BERGMAN , 83, of Springfield, died April 10, 2010. She was born March 24, 1927, in Ripley, the daughter of Oliver and Ava (Stevenson) Lanier. She grew up on a farm in Baylis, the sev­enth of eight children. She married Frederick W. Bergman in Pittsfield Aug. 28, 1947. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and five brothers. She graduated Valedictorian from Perry High School in 1945 and attended Western Illinois University. She and Fred transferred to the University of Illinois in Champaign. She later graduated from Illinois College in Jacksonville. She was a 4-H leader, Bible and Sunday school teacher, band chaperone, class and FFA and FHA sponsor. She attended the former Trinity United Methodist Church regularly and faithful fellowshipped with her women's group. She read the Bible daily and could quote scripture to support her life choices. She held various jobs with the USDA . She especially enjoyed working as a phone surveyor and spoke to farmers on various sub­jects. She was most proud that she developed, with Fred, a method for collecting pollen to produce. allergy shots. She knew her effort had helped thousands of people. She was a student of nature and could identify trees, plants and flowers. She hand braided rugs and for many years and demonstrated and taught that art on the Spoon River Drive. She was a talented seamstress and made hats, jewelry and soap. She Was an avid conversationalist and had a dry wit. Her knowledge was extensive but her wisdom was profound. Her writings are prolific, but the subject was constant, LOVE is the ONLY way in life. She was a 39 year survivor of ovarian cancer, and faced many other health challenges and surgeries courageously. She was a champion of hope for other cancer survivors and participated in the Walk for Life, even pushing her walker. She is survived by her husband, Fred, of Chandlerville; two daughters, Mickie Kendrick of Chandlerville and Nancy Abbott of Springfield; two sons, Derf (Jay) Bergman of Miles City, Mont. and Dru (Vanessa) Bergman of Havana; eight grandchildren, Troy. Fletcher, Mandl, (Mark) Hayden, Molly (Dt. Jesse) Stinauer, Alex, Trey, Mickah, Isaiah and Jonah Bergman; five great grandchildren, Brock and Tanner Hayden, Trace and Rilee Fletcher and Olivia Rose Stinauer; one brother, Verlin Lanier; two brothers-in- law, Donnie and Harvey; two sisters-in- law, Maridan and Kate; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will be hosting a memorial gathering Saturday, April 17, from 1-2 pm at United Methodist Church-North Side Ministries, 2400 N. Grand East, Springfield. PATSY (HILL) BERGMAN , 72, of Perry died early Monday morning, Sept. 17, 2001 at her residence. Born Nov. 29, 1928, in Quincy, she was a daughter of the late Daniel Otis and Patricia Elizabeth Hayes Hill. She married Don Bergman on Aug. 14, 1948, in Quincy and he survives. Also surviving are 3 daughters, Rosanne Reid of Normal, Leah Priest (Tim) of Jacksonville, and Sally Hodgson (Gary) of Beverly; 3 sons, Dennis Bergman (Amy) of Washington, NC, Mark Bergman of Jacksonville, Tom Bergman (Martha) of Southern Pines, NC; 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather Clarence Gauch Sr; 2 sons, Gregory and Timothy Bergman; and 1 brother, Clarence Gauch. Mrs. Bergman was a graduate of Quincy High School. She volunteered her time with several organizations such as Perry American Legion Auxiliary, American Red Cross, as a Pike County EMT, Teen Court, Pike County Hospice, Boy Scouts of America, as well as several other organizations. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling and a member of the Legion of Mary. She was church organist at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Griggsville for several years. Funeral mass will be held at 11 am Fri. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling, with Fr. Louis Schlangen as celebrant. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery in Perry. Friends may call after 4 pm Thurs. at the funeral home where family will meet with friends from 6-8 pm. Rosary service will be held at 8 pm Thurs. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Blessing Hospice of Pike County, or to the Perry American Legion Auxiliary. A dinner will be served for family and friends following the service Friday at the Perry United Methodist Church.

RICHARD SHINN BERGMAN , 57, a Pittsfield business and civil leader, died at 10:55 pm Sat, Jan. 9, 1982 in Blessing Hospital in Quincy. Mr. Bergman was born in Griggsville, April 22, 1924, a son of Richard and Dorothy Shinn Bergman. He married Elsie Miller Jan. 19, 1947 in Billings, MT. Mr. Bergman was president of Bergman Meat Packing Co. in Pittsfield. He and his father founded the business in 1946. He was an Air Force Veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Pittsfield City Council for 10 years and a past president of the Pittsfield Rotary Club, participating in many of its fund-raising programs. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Old Orchard Country Club. Surviving are his wife; his parents of Pittsfield; 2 sons, Steven L. and Richard H., both of Quincy; a daughter, Mrs. Greg (Bonnie Dee) Ambrose of Lansing, IL; a sister, Mrs. Ray (Barbara) Windmiller of Seguin, TX; 3 brothers, Robert of Pittsfield, James of Hannibal, and Phil of Louisiana, MO and 3 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter and 2 grandchildren. Services were held at 2 pm Tues. in the Lummis Funeral Home. Burial was in Pittsfield West Cemetery. The family suggest memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Pittsfield.

RICHARD T. BIGGS , 79, of Frankford died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday at the Second Baptist Church in Bowling Green with the Rev. John Birkhead and the Rev. Don Amelung officiating. Burial will be in the Crescent Heights Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, Ill., with military honors. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday at the Church. He was born May 6, 1928 in Frederick, Md. On Aug. 21, 1953, he married Donna V. Smith in St. Louis. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Richard Mark Biggs and wife, Karen of Bowling Green; one daughter, Donna Biggs Grote and husband, Joe of Curryville; eight grandchildren; three great-grand­children; one sister, Marion McClain of Frederick, Mary. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. Mr. Biggs served during WWII in the U. S. Coast Guard (Merchant Marines) and the Navy. He was raised in Maryland then in 1952 moved to St. Louis where he worked for the railroad and oper­ated printing presses and worked as a carpenter in construction. He moved to Bowling Green in 1972 where he continued working as a carpenter. He enjoyed wood­working, collecting model trains, working jigsaw puzzles and read­ing. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers will be Corey Biggs, Joey Grote, Timmy Grote, Kevin Ponton, Brett Biggs, Joe Rowell and Gerard Jezik. The Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be made to Pike County Missouri Hospice, Gideons or Crescent Heights Cemetery.

EMMA DARLENE BIGSBY , 77, of Quincy died Thursday, July 9, 2009, in Blessing Hospital. She was born Aug. 10, 1931 in Hadley Township, the daughter of Harry and Nellie Ely Sittler. April 14, 1979 she married William Bigsby in Bushnell. She was employed for 30 years at the Brown Shoe Company in Pittsfield. After the Shoe factory closed, she and William moved to Bushnell where she started her own cleaning service. They moved to Quincy in the early 1990's where she worked for I.S.S. for five years until her retirement. She was a member of Akers Chapel. She enjoyed crocheting, and made afghans for Maysville Bluegrass Auctions. She loved Bluegrass music and enjoyed attending music festivals. Survivors in addition to her husband include a daughter, Vickie Kay Armstrong and her husband Ken of Pleasant Hill; two grandsons, Scott Armstrong of Carbondale and Brian Armstrong of Quincy; three sisters, Norma McGee of Virginia and Ruby Young and Anna Beth Moore, both of Hemett, Calif.; a brother, George Sittler and his wife Faye of Avon; a step-son, Bill E. Bigsby and his wife, Darcy, of Quincy, and a step-daughter, Shelby Emele of San Diego, Calif.; and several nieces, nephews, step-nieces, step-nephews, and step-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 14 at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with the Rev. Henry Pratt officiating. Burial was in Miller Cemetery, Atlas. JEROLD BOLLMAN , 70 of Milton, died Friday, June 10, 2011 at the Eastside Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Pittsfield. Dwight was born Oct. 26, 1940 in Detroit, to Lyndle and Imogene Cook Bollman. He married Carolyn Goldman June 23, 1968 at the Milton Christian Church in Milton, where they have resided since. Dwight graduated from Niles High School in Niles, Michigan in 1959. He served in the United States Army from November 1963 through November 1965. He was a member of the Milton Christian Church and served as a Deacon, a member of the Pittsfield American Legion Post 152 and served as president of the Smith Cemetery. Dwight was a farmer and loved horses especially Appaloosa’s and enjoyed showing horses in local horse shows. In previous years he had been a ringmaster for the Rail Splitter International Horse Show, a school bus driver for East Pike High School, worked at the Pittsfield Sale Barn and had worked for the Village of Milton. Dwight especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends and traveling. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; a brother, Fred (Mary Ellen) Bollman of South Bend, Ind.; nieces, Dawn (Ronn) Simpson of Edwardsberg, Mich., Megan Bollman of Los Angeles, Calif. and Ranell (Kevin) Ansley of Amarillo, Texas; nephew, Randy Baker of Dalhart, Texas; great nephews, Tyler Simpson of Edwardsberg, Mich. and Cade Chism of Amarillo; and a great niece, Hailey Simpson of Edwardsberg. A special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Virginia and Charley Baker of Dalhart, Texas survive along with many special nieces and nephews. Services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 14, at the Milton Christian Church with Bro. Jerry Edison and Bro. John Graham officiating. Interment was in the Smith Cemetery near Milton with military rites accorded by the Pittsfield America Legion Post 152. Visitation was held from 5 until 8 p.m., Monday evening, June 13 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield. NORMA V. BONIFIELD , 70, of Chicago, formerly of Barry, died Sunday (Feb. 25, 1996) in St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago. Born Sept. 18, 1925, in Barry, Miss Bonifield was a daughter of Herbert A. and Lora Triplett Bonifield. Miss Bonifield was a 1943 graduate of Barry High School and moved to Chicago after graduation. She worked for the U.S. Treasury Department for 47 years. She retired in 1990. Survivors include four brothers, Russell Bonifield of Kinderhook, Bernard Bonifield of Barry, Wayne Bonifield of Palatine, and Herbert Bonifield of Rio, Wis.; a sister, Glenna Pulliam of Barry; and several nieces and nephews. Miss Bonifield was preceded in death by two brothers, Forrest and Howard; and a sister, Lucille Norman. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Burial will be in Kinderhook Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Barry Public Library.

ELMER C. BOULWARE , 76, a retired farmer, died Tuesday morning, January 22, 1957, at two o'clock at the Illini Community Hospital where he had been a patient for the past eleven days. He had prev­iously suffered a stroke at his home. Mr. Boulware was born Novem­ber 16, 1880, the son of James and Isabelle House Boulware, on the farm northwest of Barry where he has always made his home. He attended the Barry schools. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon, January 24, at two o'clock in the Hufnagel Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Charles Van Dettum, assisted by the Rev. L. C. Prruehsner. Ray Gleckler will sing, accompanied by Mrs. Roy Holton. Interment will be in Park Lawn Cemetery. Pall­bearers will be Joe Ward, Henry Gregory, William Carbaugh, Clif­ford Bridgewater, Richard. Potter and Henry Stroheker. Surviving are one brother, Ellis Boulware, who makes his home at the Beatty Nursing Home, and Miss Susie Hinch, who has lived in the Boulware home for many years.

DOROTHY MAE BOUNDS , 83 of Austin, Texas died Aug. 15, 2011, at the Park Bend Health Care Center in Austin. Dorothy was born in Kinderhook, May 16, 1928, a daughter to Everett and Mabel Crenshaw Short. She married William Bounds and he preceded her in death. Dorothy was of the Lutheran faith and attended St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hannibal, Mo. before relocating to Austin. She was an avid reader and was extremely proud of her extended family. She was a devoted mother and friend. She is survived by her children, Stephen Perrine, Douglas Perrine, Linda Perrine, Mary Mehmert, Rebecca (Lisa) Denamur, Janine Murtaugh, Jill Roberts and a brother, Robert Short. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and husband, William. Sixteen grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren survive. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry. MARGARET E. (TOUMBS) BRATSCH , 61, of El Dara, formerly of Barry, died Jan. 11, 2003 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. She was born July 13, 1941 in Barry to Fred and Ellen Crenshaw Toumbs. She married Paul Shanks and later married Glen Bratsch. She was a nurse's assistant at the Barry Community Care Center in Barry. She was saved Nov. 15, 2002. She collected porcelain dolls. She loved her pets, her dog Skeeter and her cat Fluffy. She enjoyed watching hummingbirds at her feeders. Survivors are one son, Bill Bratsch of Hannibal, Mo.; one daughter, Mrs. Bruce (Rita) Rush of Summer Hill; a companion, Paul Shanks of El Dara; two brothers, Leo Toumbs of New Canton and Donald Toumbs of Mt. Sterling; one sister, Mrs. Glen (Betty) Sims of Mt. Sterling and one grandson, Adam Bratsch of Summer Hill. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Cathleen, Virginia and Nancy and one brother, Elmo Toumbs. Private graveside services were held at the Samuel Taylor Cemetery in Rockport. WADE LEON BRAYMAN , 89, of the Illinois Veteran's Home, formerly of 2502 Oak, Quincy, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at the veteran's home. Born May 30, 1920 in Pike County, Wade was a son of Virgil Ray and Pearl Applegate Braymen. He married Deloris Robinson Sept. 3, 1947 in Pittsfield. She preceded him in death Jan. 10, 2003. Wade was a member of Madison Park Christian Church and the 25 Year Club at Moorman Manufacturing. An avid hunter and fisherman, Wade also enjoyed mushroom hunting and trout fishing, especially in the Bennett Springs, Mo. area. He also was a member of the Moorman's bowling and trap shooting leagues. Mr. Braymen served his country with the U.S. Army under the command of Gen. George S. Patton in the 103rd Infantry Division, Battery A 928th Field Artillery Battalion Command Post during World War II seeing action in the Rhineland and Central European campaigns. In later years, Mr. Braymen enjoyed keeping in touch with his comrades as a member of the Cactus Patch, 103rd Infantry Division Association of WW II. Mr. Braymen was employed for 33 years at Moorman Manufacturing, retiring in 1980. Survivors include two daughters, Wada Russell of Quincy and Donna Hilgenbrink and her husband Robert of Shiloh; a son, Steve Braymen and his wife Pat of Quincy; a daughter in law, Marsha Prestridge and her husband Mark of Ft. Worth, Texas; seven grandchildren, Laura Bruzan and her husband Vincent of Phoenix, Ariz., Suzanne Smith of Shiloh, Erica Fulton and her husband Tracy of Ft. Worth, Tandy Braymen of Garland, Texas, Jacob Russell, Ginger Russell and Adam Braymen all of Quincy; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Bowman of Pittsfield; a sister in law, Eileen Syrcle of Pittsfield; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Braymen was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Deloris; a son, Gary Braymen; a grandson, Jeremy Russell; three brothers, Lloyd Braymen , Marshal Braymen and Dennis Braymen in infancy; and a sister, Dorothy Robinson. LORENE M. BREUER , 83, of 2215 Rainbow Lane, Quincy, died at 10:12 p.m. Tuesday (November 17, 2009) in the Barry Community Care Center. Born July 18, 1926 in Montezuma, Illinois, Lorene was the daughter of Otis Alonzo and Georgia Graham Baird. She married Donald M. Breuer on July 21, 1961 in Alton, Illinois. He preceded her in death on August 19, 2009. Lorene attended Luther Memorial Church. She enjoyed camping with her husband and bowling. Mrs. Breuer was employed at Quincy Paper Box for 24 years until her retirement. BERTHA O. (ROSENKOETTER) BUCKMAN , 88, of Odd Fellows Home in Liberty, MO, formerly of 810 Monroe, died at 11:30 am Mon, July 5, 1982 in the home where she had been a resident for 7 years. Mrs. Buckman was born March 4, 1894 in Barry, IL, a daughter of John and Mary Gay Rosenkoetter. She was married to Walter Buckman on April 14, 1951. He died Dec. 23, 1965. She was a member of the Central Baptist Church. She had worked as a nurse's aid in St. Mary Hospital. Surviving are a son, Kenneth Whitaker of Quincy; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Guenther of Kansas City, MO; 2 sisters, Mrs. Esther Vancil and Mrs. Clyde (Florine) Angell, both of Quincy; 7 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister. Services will be held Thursday at 10 am in the Duker Funeral Home conducted by Rev. John J. Garver. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

ARTHUR LEE ROY BULLARD , 81, of Mt. Sterling, IL died Fri., July 7, 2002, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. He was born Oct. 8,1920 in Pike County, IL to Lee Roy and Effie Wagner Bullard. He married Lois Peterson on Dec. 25,1946 in Quincy, IL, and she survives. Mr. Bullard was a farmer and had also worked as a plumber for more than 20 years. He attended Brown County Schools and was a member of the Benville Union Church. Mr. Bullard always enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Lois Bullard of Mt. Sterling; 5 children, Virginia Davis (husband Ron) of Tucson, AZ, Kevin Bullard (wife Carolyn) of Plymouth, IL, Gordon Bullard (wife Donna) of Mt. Sterling, IL, Del Bullard (wife April) of Augusta, IL, and David Bullard of Quincy, IL; 1 brother, Lyle Dean Bullard of Mt. WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of Kenneth Glenn Bullard formerly of Perry on February 4, 2004; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth Bullard was born March 21, 1917 in Brown County to the late Glenn and Esther Bullard; he married Jennie Evelyn Parrick on June 2, 1940; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bullard was a United States Navy Veteran serving in World War II; he lived in Perry most of his life; he worked for Read's General Store in Perry for 37 years and Perry Farm Equipment Co. for four years; he also owned an insurance agency; for more than 30 years he was the school treasurer, the village treasurer, and a volunteer fireman in Perry; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bullard was a member of the Perry United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Perry American Legion Post 1040, and a lifetime member in Perry Masonic Lodge 95; and
WHEREAS, The passing of Kenneth Glenn Bullard will be deeply felt by many, especially his wife, Jennie Evelyn Bullard; his sons, Robert G. Bullard (wife Joan) and Bruce L. JENNIE EVELYN (PARRICK) BULLARD , 91, of the Villa Health Care in Sherman, IL and formerly of Perry, IL died early Tues., May 22, 2007 at the Villa Health Care East Nursing Home in Sherman. Evelyn was born April 7, 1916 in Pike County, IL, to the late Frank and Mildred Morath Parrick. She married Kenneth G. Bullard June 2, 1940 and he preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 2004. Surviving are 2 sons, Robert G. Bullard and wife Joan of Kingsport, TN and Bruce L. Bullard and wife Julie of Springfield, IL; 2 grandchildren, Chad G. Bullard and wife Jill of Atlanta, GA, and Amy S. Malooley and husband Keith of Chicago, IL; 3 great-grandsons Trenton and Derek Bullard of Atlanta, GA and Mason Malooley of Chicago; one great-granddaughter Kate Lynn Malooley of Chicago, IL; 1 sister Marguerite Kennedy of Perry, IL; 1 brother-in-law Lloyd Bullard and wife Norma of Tracy, CA; 4 nieces, and 2 nephews and several great-nieces and nephews. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 1 granddaughter Jody Lynn Bullard; and a brother-in-law, John Kennedy. Mrs. Bullard lived in Perry most of her life. She worked at the telephone office operating the switchboard and later at Read’s General Store in Perry. She was member of the Perry United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Perry American Legion Auxiliary Post 1040. Services will be conducted at 11am Thursday (May 24, 2007) at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Il. Burial will be in the McCord Cemetery in Perry. Visitation is from 9:00am until the time of service at the funeral chapel. Memorials may be made to Perry United Methodist Church, Perry Legion Auxiliary, and the Perry Cemetery. A meal will be served following the committal at the Perry United Methodist Church in Perry, for family and friends.

AUBRA GUY BUNN , 82, of Nebo, IL, who died Sun, Jan. 25, 1976 at 5:30 am in a Pittsfield Nursing Home, will be held Tues. at 10:30 am in the Ward Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill. The Rev. Wilson Ramsey will officiate. Burial will be in Nebo Cemetery. Mr. Bunn had been in ill health for a year. Masonic services will be held Monday at 7 pm in the funeral home. Mr. Bunn was born July 17, 1893, near Nebo, IL, a son of Andrew and Gena Jennings Bunn. He was a retired farmer and a former civil service employee. He was a member of the Church of Christ and the Pike County Farm Bureau. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge No. 565 AF & AM in Pleasant Hill. He married Letha Gordon June 27, 1935 in West Union. Surviving are the widow; a daughter, Martha Kay at home; a brother, Earl of Nebo, IL and 2 sisters, Mrs. Eula Stevens of Wood River, IL and Mrs. Mary Booth of Fort Lauderdale, FL. He was preceded in death by an infant son.

LETHA M. (GORDON) BUNN , 95, of Eastside Healthcare Center in Pittsfield, IL and formerly of Nebo, IL, died March 20, 2006 at Eastside Healthcare Center. Letha was born June 27, 1910 in Bel Air to Amos and Arena Downey Gordon. She married Aubra G. Bunn of Nebo on her 25th birthday in 1935. They spent the rest of their married life in the Nebo area and Aubra preceded Letha in death in 1976. Aubra and Letha had 2 children, a son, Merlin, who died shortly after his birth and a daughter, Martha Kay, who died Jan. 7, 2004. Letha was crippled by polio as a young child and it affected her ability to walk, but she loved people and was very friendly and had nimble fingers. She did beautiful handwork, crocheting and knitting, selling many items through local outlets. It could be hard to estimate how many babies wore her special booties. Letha and her daughter, Martha, moved to the nursing home in Pittsfield soon after Aubra's death , and there Letha was cared for until her death. She had a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed the activities at the nursing home, especially the music. She was an active participant in the resident's council, having served as chairman for a time. Letha leaves several nieces and nephews and many friends who will miss her very much. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Funeral services were held Thurs, March 23, at 11 am at the Ward Lummis Funeral home in Pleasant Hill and conducted by Rev, Wilson Ramsey. Burial followed at the Nebo Cemetery. Visitation was held one hr prior to the services Thurs. Memorials may be made to the Work Activity Center in Pittsfield or to the Eastside Healthcare Center's activity fund. Ward-Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill handled the arrangements.

MARTHA KAY BUNN , 62, of Pittsfield, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Illini Community Hospital. She was born July 5, 1941 in Louisiana, MO to Aubra Guy and Letha Gordon Bunn and was raised on the family farm near Nebo, IL. Martha Kay was employed by the Work Activity Center in Pittsfield. She was a member of the Nebo Church of Christ where she attended with her family. Survivors include her mother, Letha Bunn of the Pittsfield Healthcare Center; several cousins; and very special friends at Kepley House and the Pittsfield Work Activity Center. She was preceded in death by her father. Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 9, at the Ward-Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill with Bro. Bob Hammitt officiating. Burial was in the Nebo Cemetery. Visitation was one hour prior to the services Friday. Memorials are to the Pittsfield Work Activity Center. Pallbearers were Lowell Neese, Gene McKee, Irvin Dean Franklin, Burdell Foreman and Danne Durall. Ward-Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill handled the arrangements.

LESTER B. BURRUS , 87, of Pleasant Hill, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. Lester was born Dec. 4, 1922, in Charleston, Ill., a son of Lester B. Sr. and Mary White Burrus. He married Fern P. Pelas May 18, 1943, in Buras, La. and she survives. Lester received his master's degree from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston and he was employed by Pleasant Hill Community Unit School District #3 as a chemistry and physics teacher for 34 years, retiring in 1983. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of WWII and was a member of the Pittsfield American Legion Post. He enjoyed photography and hunting and was a member of the National Rifle Association. Lester was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Louisian, Mo. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Fern P. Burrus of Pleasant Hill; a daughter, Kay Ann McQueen of Pleasant Hill; four grandchildren, Chris McQueen, Jim McQueen, Alicia Borlick and Leslie Sides, also nine great-grandchildren and a sis­ter, Dorothy Lang of Charleston. He was preceded in death by his par­ents, one brother and two sisters. Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Louisiana, Mo. Conducted by Fr. Lou Dorn. Burial followed at Crescent Heights Cemetery in Pleasant Hill. Visitation was held Thursday Dec. 24. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill han­dled arrangements.
