JOHN DURAN , Died in this city Sept. 10, 1885 at the family residence, John Duran. "Father Duran" was born in Portland Maine Ja. 16, 1800; was married in Cincinatti Oct. 12, 1826 to Miss Rhoda RIggs, who survives him. He came to this state and settled two miles north of this city in 1831, some months before Pittsfield was laid off. He was converted and joined the church, under the pastorate of the Rev. John McCall, and has been for thirty five years a devoted Christian, and member of the M.E. Church. Surch was his kindness and sympathy for the needy and friendless, the widow and the orphan, that many, while they mourn his loss, will "rise up and call him blessed". He was a man of unusual energy and industry, and also, during his whole life, one of unimpeachable integrity. He was the father of twelve children - eight of whom survive him. During his painful illness he suffered without a murmur. The future gave him no anxiety, as he trusted in Him, who is able to save to the uttermost, those who put their confidence in him. The funeral service was held at the residence of the deceased by Rev. Robert Clark. Much sympathy was manifested by the large attendance at the funeral of neighbors and friends. It may truly be said of him; "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them." The family of the deceased are truly grateful for the kindness and sympathy manifested toward them.
