DOROTHY N. (GRAYBAEL) EASLEY , 87, a former Kin­derhook resident of the Barry Boarding Home, died at 2:30 p.m. Sunday (May 19, 1996) in Blessing Hospital in Quincy. Born Sept. 5, 1908, near Barry, Mrs. Easley was a daughter of Lloyd and Myra McDonough Graybael. She married Charles Irwin Trautwein May 13, 1918, in Winchester. He died March 17, 1966. She later married Emmett Easley Aug. 19, 1973, in Barry. He died March 2,;1979. Mrs. Easley had lived in the Barry-Kinderkook area all her life. She was graduate of Barry High School and was a member of Kinderhook Baptist Church. Survivors include two sons, Marvin Trautwein of Waukegan, and Norman Trautwein of Jonesboro, Ark. Mrs. Easley was preceded in death by four sisters, Gladys Long, Mildred Mullins, Mary Funk and Helen Carroll; and a brother, Glenn. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Burial will be in Kinderhook Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6-8 tonight. Memorials may be made to Kinderhook Baptist Church.

HESTER EASLEY , 91, of Barry, a well-known mission­ary, died at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, 1978 at the Community Care Center inBarry. She was born Feb., 28, 1907 in Pleasant Vale Township,. the daughter of Arthur and Eva Wood Easley and was a member of the El Dara Meth­odist Church. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Adeline Fesler of Barry and two brothers, Emmett, of Barry and Arthur of Lime. She- was preceded in. death by a brother and a sister, Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the El Dara Methodist Church with Rev. Gilbert Fletcher oficiating. Burial was in Park Lawn Cemetery at Barry.

SAMUEL E. EATOCK , 87, of Pittsfield, died Monday, June 13, 2011, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. He was born Nov. 30, 1923, in Elmira, Mo to Edmund and Bernice “Toots” See Eatock. Sam married Marjorie Curl Dec. 20, 1952 in Centerville, Iowa, and she survives. Sam was an engineer and salesman in the agricultural field. He served his country during World War II in the US Coast Guard, then received his bachelor’s degree in animal husbandry from Mizzou. Sam played professional baseball as a starting pitcher for the St. Louis Browns then for the Baltimore Orioles. He raised thousands of chickens and became a self-employed feed manufacturer in Centerville, IA. Sam later worked for Cargill , M.D. King and Webel Feeds in Pittsfield, IL, and Henderson Manufacturing headquartered in Iowa. He was a member of the Episcopal Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eagles Lodge, the Antique Airplane Association where he founded the local Great River Squadron Chapter, and the Experimental Airplane Association (E.A.A.). He also helped establish the Junior Baseball League in Centerville, Iowa, worked with Pike County Extension Agronomy, and sold real estate. Sam logged over 6000 hours flying and owned several antique airplanes. Sam is survived by his wife, Marge; two sons, Jim (Terri) Eatock of Pittsfield and Eric Heightman of Cahokia; two daughters, Ann “Boo” Fox of Martinsburg and Connie Dake of Lake St. Louis, Mo. Sam was a mentor and guide to Eric and Connie among many others , and although not technically his, considered them all a part of his family. He is also survived by one brother, Bill Eatock of Boone, Iowa, and his closest friend, Otis Madden of Louisiana, Mo., along with four grandchildren, Jesse Fox of Martinsburg, Edmund Eatock of Pittsfield, Sean Hall of Pittsfield and Jason Hall of Campbell County, Wyo. As per his wishes Cremation rites will be accorded with a Memorial Service in July. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association. Condolences may be sent to the family at info@nieburfh.com. WILLIAM BENJAMIN ELDER - Lima, Ill., Feb. 5 1956 - William Benjamin Elder of Timber Lake, S.D., father of Mrs. Ruth Duke of Lima, died Friday night at 11 in the veterans' hospital at Iowa City IA. Mr. Elder was born at Baylis Aug. 31, 1880. His parents were DeLee and Susan Kurfman Elder. He married Zora Orndorff Oct. 1, 1901. Mr. Elder was a veteran of WW I in which he served with the motor transport corps, and was a member of the LaHarpe American Legion and V.F.W. posts. Surviving besides the widow and the daughter here are a son, William Elder of LaHarpe; five other daughters, Mrs. Ann Finchum of Camp Point, Mrs. Irene Painter of Terre Haute, Mrs. Carol Churchill of Colchester, Mrs. Alberta Bushnell of Blaninsville and Mrs. Enid Kilgore of Monmouth; two brothers, Jess of Timber Lake and Amos of Eldon MO; a sister Miss Edna Elder o Timber Lake; 16 grandchildren and one greatgrandchild.

Elder Dies at 75, Burial Tuesday--Father of LaHarpe Man Accorded Honors of American Legion The La Harpe American Legion post accorded full military honors at burial rites in Woodland cemetery near Baylis yesterday afternoon to William B. Elder, father of William V. "Bill" Elder of this city and Mrs. Ray Painter of Terre Haute. Mr Elder passed away late Friday night, Feb 3, 1956 in the Veterans Hospital at Iowa City only two days after undergoing major surgery. He survived the operation in apparently good condition but later suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Woodland church,, three miles north of Baylis with interment in the nearby county cemetery. Mr. Elder, a veteran of the first world War was quite well known here through rather frequent visits to the home of his sons and daughters. A son of Dele Elder and Susan Kurfman Elder, he was born august 31 1880 near Baylis and was married Oct 1 1901 to Zora Ornduff. The family lived for many years in Macomb and during much of his adult life Mr. Elder taught school, practicing his profession both in Pike and McDonough counties, Illinois. He was an avid sportsman also and a truly lover of the great out of doors. Left to mourn his passing are the son William V. Elder of LaHarpe and six daughters, Mesdames Ruth Duke of Lima, Anne Finchum of Camp Pint, Irene Painter of Terre Haute, Carol Churchill of Colchester, Alberta Bushnell of Blandinsville and Enid Kilgore of Monmouth. There are 17 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Also surviving are two brothers, Jesse Elder of Timberlake, South Dakota and Amos Elder of Eldon, Missouri and one sister, Miss Edna Elder of Timberlake, South Dakota."

MIRIAM I. (HYDE) ELLIS , 76, of 2313 Lind, died at 9:05 p.m. Friday (Oct. 28, 1994) in Blessing Hospi­tal. Mrs. Ellis was born March 29, 1918, in Griggsviile, Ill., a daugh­ter of Loren and Mae Johnson Hyde. She married Elmer D. Ellis Oct. 17, 1937, in Monticello, Mo. He survives. Mrs:-Ellis was of the Protestant faith. She worked 22 years as an assembler for Motorola. Survivors include two daugh­ters, Mrs. David (Diana) Crawford of Schaumburg, and Mrs. Norm (Anita) Dicks of Quincy; four grandchildren, Brad Crawford of Bartlett, Kim McDonald of Schaumburg, and Derek ad Dan­ielle Dicks of Quincy; four great- grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Hyde of Rushville. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Loren Hyde Jr. and Myron Hyde; and three sisters, Lucille, Annetta, and Irene Hyde. Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Hansen- Spear Funeral Home by the Rev. Jay Keele. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 tonight until time of services Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church or to the Humane Society.

DORA L. (BLACKLEDGE) ELLISON , 91, of Rockport died Thursday, July 3, 2003, at Liberty Village in Pittsfield. She was born Feb. 23, 1912, in New Canton to William and Viola Billings Blackledge. She married Lee R. Ellison Jan. 11, 1932, in Pittsfield. He died April 10, 1972. She was a homemaker and had been employed for many years by the Brown Shoe Co. in Pittsfield. She enjoyed fishing, picking blackberries and was an avid reader. Survivors include four sons, Roger, Donald and Doug Ellison, all of Rockport, and Ronald Ellison of Hull; two daughters, Velda Barnes of Rockport and Carol Rice; 20 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, William Ellison; a daughter, Kathleen Barnes, an infant daughter, Geraldine; two grandsons, one great-granddaughter, four brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were Monday, July 7, at the Ward-Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill with the Rev. Dean Collings officiating. Burial was at Samuel Taylor Cemetery in Rockport. Memorials are to the charity or organization of the donor's choice. Pallbearers were Mike Ellison, Tom Ellison, Todd Ellison, Ron Ellison, Tim Womble and Brett Smith.

Husband preceded I death in June, 1969. A resident of Rockport, Il. Survived by a daughter: Mrs. Erma Blackledge of Rockport; two sons: Michael of Rockport and Ernest of Kinderhook; a sister: Mrs. Etta Galloway of Truxton, Mo.; a brother: Nick Kindle of Louisiana, Mo.; four grandchildren; and one g-grandchild.

MAXINE (SAPP)ELLISON , 90, of Kinderhook, died Saturday, May 21, 2011, at Beth Haven Nursing Home in Hannibal, Mo. She was born May 31, 1920, in Pike County, to Thomas Lindsey and Mamie (Gray) Sapp. They preceded her in death. She married Ernest L. (John) Ellison, March 27, 1939. He preceded her in death July 16, 2004. She is survived by one daughter, Pat Overstreet, husband Jim of Hannibal; one grandson, J. D. Overstreet of Hannibal; and two great-granddaughters, Sara and Anna Overstreet. Maxine was one of the first 15 hired by Underwood Company and worked there till her retirement. She was an avid quilter and had completed some 30 plus quilts by hand. She loved her home, family and any and all kids and animals. There is no visitation. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, at Kinderhook Cemetery, Kinderhook. Burial was in Kinderhook Cemetery, Kinderhook. Memorials are suggested to the N.E. Missouri Humane Society or the Alzheimers Foundation. Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry in charge of arrangements.

WILLIAM RAY ELLISON of Portland Texas, an Air Force veteran and retired employee of Reynolds Metal Co., died June 13, 1999. He was 69. SUrvivors include his wife, Gretta; two daughters, Karen Ballard of Portland and Debbie Daniels of Griggsville; three sons, Daryl Ellison of Corpus CHristi TX and Dennis and Steven Ellison both of Portland; his mother Dora Ellison of Rockport; two sisters Velda Barnes of Rockport and Carol Rice of St. Charles MO; three brothers Ronnie Ellison of Hull, and Roger and Donnie Ellison, both of Rockport; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. DOROTHY ROSELLA ELLISTON ,87, of Barry, died Sunday, May 15, 2011 at the Barry Community Care Center. Dorothy was born in Seehorn, March 13, 1924 to Theodore and Maude Masterson Sisk. She married Pete Elliston in 1947 and he preceded her in death in 1974. Dorothy had worked in many local restaurants over the years, usually doing the cooking. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and playing Yahtzee, bingo and canasta. She also loved her roosters and red birds, and liked to feed the squirrels. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Survivors include her brother James ‘Buddy’ Sisk and his wife Irene of Baylis and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings; Kenneth Pullman, Wesley Sisk, Roy Sisk, Rita Miller and Goldie DeJaynes. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry. Visitation will be Thursday from Noon until 1:00 PM. Burial will be at the Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry. Memorials may be left to the Barry Fire Dept.

MARJORIE FRANKLIN ELMORE , 88, of Barry, formerly of Pittsfield, died Friday, July 24, 2009, in the Bany Community Care Center. Marjorie was born Sept 14, 1920 in Atlas Township to Dee and Neva (Ator) Wombles. She married Edd Fran din May 21, 1939 and he died Dec. 12, 1963. She later married Tony Elmore of Springfield June 15, 1973 and resided in Springfield until his death March 22,1982 at which time she moved to Pittsfield. Marjorie is survived by her son Gary Dee Franklin Sr. and his wife Darlyne of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Gary Dee Franklin II and his wife, Valerie, of Norman, Okla., Jennifer D. Franklin of Chatam and Heidi Dawn Phelps and her husband, Lane, of Anchorage, Aka.; seven great-grandchildren, Dorothy, Charitie and Rheann Franklin ofNorman, Okla., Paige Trumbo of Chatam, Austin Dee Franklin Bates of Chatam, Daniel Phelps of Bowling Green, Mo. and Ethan Dee Phelps of Anchorage; one sister, Erma Shutte, and her husband, Richard, of New Canton; and many nieces, neph­ews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Charles, Lee and John Dee Wombles of New Canton and an infant great-grandson, Garret Flores Franklin of Oklahoma. Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, July 26 in the Kirgan Funeral Home, Bany. Funeral Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 27 in the Funeral Home with Becky Clark offici­ating. Burial was in Shearer Cemetery near New Canton where Marjorie will be laid to rest next to her first husband Edd. Memorials are suggested to the Alzhiemers Association

ROGER DENNIS EMRICK , age 74, of Valley City, Il. died Wednesday morning (October 6, 2010) at Illini Hospital in Pittsfield, Il. He was born January 12, 1936 in Valley City, Il. son of the late Harry and Vivian Frances Dennis Emrick. He married Mary Ann Criley on December 31, 1955 in Griggsville, Il. and she preceded him in death on December 22, 1995. Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth Anne Emrick-Capps and husband Berry, and Brenda Kennedy and husband Robert all of Griggsville, Il.; a son, John Emrick and wife Anna of Griggsville, Il.; his devoted companion of many years, Ann Schaefer of Valley City, Il.; nine grandchildren, Chanda Carr and husband Michael of Pawnee, Il., Manda Martin and husband Mike of Jacksonville, Il. and Patrick Spurgeon of Springfield, Il., Cullen Hoos and partner Hairold Gregory of Chatham, Il., Nathan Emrick and wife Krystal of Carterville, Il., Daman Emrick of Carbondale, Il., Lacy Emrick of Griggsville, Il. Brandon Capps of Nebo, Il. and Gentry Capps of Austin, Texas; five great-grandchildren, Tabitha Winner of Barry, Il., Myesha Spurgeon of Springfield, Il., Griffin Martin of Jacksonville, Il., and Bode Carr of Pawnee, Il., Ava Capps of Austin, Texas; one brother, Harry Emrick and wife Neva Sue of Quincy, Il.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a grandson, Benton Criley Kennedy; and twin sisters in infancy. Denny was a 1954 graduate of Griggsville High School and attended Western Illinois University. He was a former employee of Caterpillar in Peoria, Il., Stateville Prison in Joliet, Il., Jacksonville State Hospital in Jacksonville, Il. and was owner/operator of The Bird Cage Restaurant in Griggsville, Il. In 1971 Denny founded Emrick Insurance Agency in Griggsville, Il. He loved collecting Indian relics and was an authority on the subject and had one of the largest collections in the area. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and his companion Ann’s children and grandchildren/ He also enjoyed riding motorcycles. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday (October 10, 2010) at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Il. Burial will be in Griggsville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. VIVIAN FRANCES EMRICK , age 99, of the Barry Community Care Center in Barry, Il. and formerly of Valley City, Il. died early Thursday (September 29, 2010) at the Barry Community Care Center. She was born May 23, 1911 in Waverly, Il. daughter of the late Mark and Inez Matthew Dennis. She married Harry Emrick and he preceded her in death on February 28, 1978. Surviving are two sons, Harry Emrick and wife Neva Sue of Quincy, Il. and Roger Dennis “Denny” Emrick and companion Ann Schaefer of Pittsfield, Il.; seven grandchildren, Bradley Emrick and friend Rodney Briggs of Lewisville, Colorado, Rebecca Sue Emrick and close friend Susan Chlystek of Ada, Michigan, Todd Lynn Emrick and wife Tammy of Taylor, Mo., Blaine Ray Emrick and Brenda Emrick of Quincy, Il., Elizabeth Anne Emrick-Capps and husband Barry of Griggsville, Il.,, Brenda Kennedy and husband Robert of Griggsville, Il., John Emrick and wife Anna of Griggsville, Il.; fourteen great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband; twin daughters; a great-granddaughter, Megan Cramer; a daughter-in-law, Mary Anne Emrick; a great-grandson, Benton Criley Kennedy; four sisters, Pearl Grimes, Juanita Sarver, Mary Sarver, and Eunice Shinn; and four brothers, Wayne Dennis, Marion Dennis, Ancil Dennis, and Willy Dennis. Vivian worked in the apple orchards in Valley City for many years before working for Trio Manufacturing in Griggsville, Il. Later she was employed by Illini Hospital in the laundry retiring in 1968. Vivian loved to garden and can and was known as “The Pickle Lady” for her homemade pickles. She was a member of the Chambersburg Christian Church In Chambersburg, Il. and also a member of the Senior Saints. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday (October 4, 2010) at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Il. Burial will be in Griggsville Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Monday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to the Charmbersburg Christian Church or the Griggsville Cemetery both c/o Airsman-Hires Chapel, Box 341, Griggsville, Il. 62340

MYRTLE M. (BOULWARE) ESHE - Mrs. Belle Boulware received word Monday that her daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Eshe, of Grand Valley, Colo., was critically ill and Mrs. Boulware and her two sons, Ellis and Elmer, left for the west on Tuesday morning. When mother and sons reached Hannibal, Mo., a telegram was received by them stating that Mrs. Eshe had died. Ellis Boulware than left for Grand Valley, but Mrs. Boulware and Elmer returned to Barry. While no definite funeral arrangements have been made so far as is known, the remains will not be brought here, but will be buried at the Colorado home.

GLENN EWERS , 89, of rural Pleasant Hill, died Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. He was born Nov. 11, 1921 near Pleasant Hill, a son of Alpha Basil and Bertha Loeta Bray Ewers. He married Trula V. Reeves Sept. 26, 1942 in Martinsburg and she survives. Leon was a life long farmer and had also been employed by Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company in Pleasant Hill. He enjoyed gardening and his cats and dogs. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Pleasant Hill. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Trula Ewers of rural Pleasant Hill; a daughter, Danita McCain of Witt; three grandchildren, Stephanie Ward of Witt, Luke McCain of Richmond, Kentucky and Jacob McCain of Witt; four great grandchildren and a sister, Nina M. Blackwell of Pittsfield. Leon was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother. Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. at the Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill conducted by Bro. Don Hannel. Burial will followed at Crescent Heights Cemetery in Pleasant Hill. Visitation was held from 12 noon until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.
