ANNA L. GASKO , 77, of Barry, formerly of Ilasco, Mo., died at 9:52 p.m. Friday (Oct. 25, 1996) in Hannibal (Mo.) Region­al Hospital. Mrs. Gasko was born May 24, 1919, in Ralls County, Mo., a daugh­ter of John and Anna Klirka Miku­Ia. She married Paul J. Gasko March 11, 1939, in Hannibal. He survives. Mrs. Gasko had been employed by International Shoe Co. and Mark Twain Boat Factory. She was a for­mer member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Basco and belonged to Holy Redeemer Church in Barry. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia A. Hoskins of Barry; a son, Michael Gasko of Holts Summit, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, a sister and four brothers. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in Holy Family Church in Hannibal by the Rev. John Groner. Burial will be in Grand View Burial Park. Visitation will be 5-7 tonight in the O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. A prayer service will be held at ,7 p.m.

MARY ANN GEISENDORFER , passed away...last Wednesday afternoon. She would have been 91 years old on Sept. 26. Miss Mary had been confined to her bed for the past two months, during which time Miss Bertha Geisendorfer had stayed at the home with the brother Fred to help care for her. The funeral service was held at the home...Friday, conducted by the Rev. Preston E. Horst of Pittsfield and the Rev. Robert Neumann of Carthage....Pall bearers were Paul Bauer, Frank Schemel, John Wilder, Virgil Hedrick, Karl Kern and John Rainwater. Burial was in Oakwood cemetery. Mary Ann Geisendorfer was born Sept. 26, 1852 at the old family homestead four miles southeast of Pittsfield. Her parents were George L. Geisendorfer, native of Bavaria, Germany, and Margaret Ann Mueller Geisendorfer. Her entire life of almost 91 years was spent in the same neighborhood. Her mother died when Mary was four years old, leaving three children, an older sister Dorothea and a younger brother John. Later her father married Henrietta Hooker, and they were parents of six sons and one daughter. Of this family of ten brothers and sisters, only three remain. Fred, the youngest, has always lived at home; Mrs. Emma Neumann lives in Carthage, Ill., and Edward in Lewistown, Mo. Those preceding her in death were Mrs. Dorothea Kallasch of Centralia, Wash.; Sigel, Mt Leonard, Mo,; John, Leonard and George of this city; and Will of Carrollton, Mo. Miss Geisendorfer was known as Aunt Mary to both old and young....For over 40 years, Aunt Mary, Uncle Leonard and Uncle Fred lived together on the farm. This happy family circle was broken by the death of Uncle Leonard eight years ago in August....She became a member of the Lutheran church in girlhood and regularly attended the Lutheran, and later the Methodist church and contributed generously to various orphanages and organizations maintained by them.

FRANCIS ELNORA GENTRY , 94, of Hannibal, Mo., died Sept. 24, 2009, at Luther Manor Nursing Home. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Prince Avenue Baptist Church, Dr. Jeff Brown, officiating. Burial will be in Grand View Burial Park. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 p.m. Thurs., Oct. 1, at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. Mrs. Gentry was born in Pike County, to Jack and Goldie Higden Kirk. She married Joseph Martin Gentry, June 24, 1944 in Monroe City, Mo. and he preceded her in death Sept. 11, 1987. Survivors include, two grandchildren, Denzil (Mary) Gentry and Julie (Grant) Darnell, both of Hannibal; two great-granddaughters, Abigail Gentry and Madalyn Elnora Jean Darnell; a daughter-in-law, Terry (Kenny) Williams, of Hannibal; one brother, Joe Kirk, of Griggsville; one sister, Doralee Johnson, of Macomb; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding in death were her parents, her husband and a son, Mark Steven Gentry; four sisters, Hazel Ballantine, Annie Pearson, Elva Riley and infant sister Elizabeth Kirk; and one brother, W.J. Kirk. Mrs. Gentry was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. She was a 72-year member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church and taught in the adult Sunday school classes. She also was active in the Missionary club of the church. Mrs. Gentry formerly worked at International Shoe Company in Hannibal. Memorials may be made to Prince Avenue Baptist Church or Blessing Hospice of Hannibal in care of Smith Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Jarrod Kirk, Doug Kirk, Bill Bergman, John Darnell, Bobby Sharp and Tom Baltrusatis.

KATHERINE JEAN (HOWARD) GILLUM - 72, of 410 Greene St., Barry, IL passed away early Sunday morning, April 23, 2006 at the Barry Community Care Center in Barry. She was born July 29, 1933 to James Floyd and Katie Woestemeyer Howard in Pittsfield, IL. She married Roy (Joe) Gillum in Palmyra, MO August of 1951 and he preceded her in death in 1986. In earlier years Katherine worked at the Illinois Cafe and the Apple Shed in Barry. She also worked for Motorola and worked as a welder for Konstant Products in Quincy, IL. Katherine was a member of the Barry United Methodist Church and she loved to fish and do woodworking. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Rob (Kathy) Cheney of Quincy, IL and Mrs. Charlie (Lisa) Larson of Waterloo, IA, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive, one brother Jimmy (wife Brenda) Howard, of Baylis and two sisters Dorothy Mathes and Mrs. Harold (Annabelle) Still both of Barry survive. Also surviving is a sister-in-law Shirley Howard of Barry. She was preceded by a grandson Curtis Gillum and a brother Billy Howard. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 27, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry, with Rev. Nancy Monahan officiating. Burial will be at the Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 4-7 p.m. at the Niebur Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Heart Association.

ROBERT W. GLASGOW , 70, of Hull, IL passed away, Saturday, July 31, 2010 at the Hannibal Regional Hospital, Hannibal, MO. Born February 28, 1940 in Quincy, IL, he was the son of Willis and Flora Obleness Glasgow. He married Wendy Ward on November 24, 1995 at Hull, IL. Robert worked at Tom Boland Ford in Hannibal, MO as an auto detailer. In earlier years he worked for Fic Motors, Power City Pattern (in the foundery), Carbide, and Sills Motors all in Keokuk, IA. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Pittsfield and enjoyed reading his bible, fishing, rabbit hunting, raising Beagle dogs, being outside, working at Pigeon Creek Paradise Campground near Hull, where he enjoyed all the little children, watching Fox News and was a staunch conservative. He is survived by his wife, Wendy, sons, Doug (friend, Lisa) of Hannibal, MO, Travis (wife, Christy) of Prosper, TX, and two stepsons, Troy Pleiferling (wife, Tami) of Woodland, TX and Tyler Pfeiferling of Lewisville, TX. Two grandchildren, Trenton and Carolina Rose Glasgow and step grandchildren, Kaylee, Taryn, Trevor and Tatum Pfeiferling and sister, Sharon (husband, Gary) Gray of Kahoka, MO also survive Robert. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at the Grace Baptist Church in Pittsfield with Pastor Gary Dice and Pastor Leonard Dice officiating. Interment will be in the Akers Chapel near Hull, IL. A lunch for family and friends will be held at the Grace Baptist Church after interment. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, August 3, 2010 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Grace Baptist Church in Pittsfield.

KATHLEEN H. (KINNE) GODERT - 79, of Pittsfield died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at her home. Born Sept. 11, 1922 in rural New Canton, she was a daughter of Clarice and Mabel Chaplin Kinne. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Karen) Constable of Barry; two grandsons, Brian Constable of New Salem and Brad Constable of Kinderhook; four great-grandchildren, Brittany, Bailey, Abby and Ashlyn. She was preceded by her parents and two brothers. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Samuel Taylor Cemetery near Rockport. Memorials may be given to the cemetery or to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pittsfield.

LORENA E. (NUTT) GODWIN , 97, of Pleasant Hill, formerly of Mendon, died Tuesday morning (Oct. 13, 2009) in Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield. She was born Jan. 30, 1912, in Houston, a daughter of James W. and Carrie Bell Nutt of Mendon. She married Homer W. Godwin Jr. on Dec. 7, 1933, in Winchester. Homer died Jan. 24, 1997. Rena lived in Mendon until her family moved to Pleasant Hill, where she finished her senior year and graduated from Pleasant Hill High School. She then entered St. Mary School of Nursing in Quincy. In 1935 Rena and Homer moved to Hastings, Neb. There she worked for a psychiatric hospital for 30 years before retiring and returning to Pleasant Hill. Rena was a volunteer worker at Meals Plus and the Senior Center and was also in the first class of EMTs for Pleasant Hill. She was a charter member of the Pleasant Hill Lioness Club, the American Legion and the Eagles Club in Hastings. For the past 25 years she had written for the Pleasant Hill "Weekly Messenger" under "This and That." She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pleasant Hill and the Bethany Class. She enjoyed card clubs, playing the organ and working among her flowers. Rena went on many bank trips and loved to travel and visit with her many friends and enjoyed her membership in the Red Hat Society. Surviving is a son, Larry Godwin of Falls City, Neb.; two grandsons, Brad L. (Cynthia) Godwin of Grandview, Mo., and Todd J. (Jyl) Godwin of Georgetown, Texas; three great-grandsons, Josh, Luke and Matthew Godwin; two great-granddaughters, Megan Green and Kate Godwin; two stepgreat-granddaughters, Tabitha and Samantha; a great-great-granddaughter, McKenna E. Green; three stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and 14 nieces and nephews. Also preceding her in death were her sister, Mildred Grimmer; brothers, Clarence and James Nutt; and a daughter-in-law, Nelda Godwin. SERVICES: Services were held at 11 a.m. today in the First Baptist Church in Pleasant Hill conducted by the Rev. Don Hannel. Burial was to follow in Crescent Heights Cemetery in Pleasant Hill. ESTHER MAE GOFF , 62, of Winchester died Friday, July 17, 2009 at her home. She was born May 23, 1947 in White Hall the daughter of the late Tony and Nancy Evans Goff. Esther worked as a CNA for 26 years at the Scott County Nursing Center retiring in 2007. Surviving are her three children Lisa Goff (companion Tim Neff) of Winchester, Lori Orr (husband Tim) of Pittsfield and Kenneth Goff of Winchester; her sister, Vera Miller (husband Leo) of Winchester; a grandson Wayne Neff of Pittsfield; a niece Ladonna Cox (husband Kevin) and a great nephew Delivan Cox of Virginia. Preceding her in death were her parents, brother Leonard "Lennie" Goff and her longtime companion Rick Sharrow. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday July 21, at the Winchester City Cemetery. Friends called after 5 p.m. Monday at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester where the family met with friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Memorials can be made to the family

WESLEY GOCHENOUR - News has been received her of the death of Wesley Gouchenour, brother of Mrs. L.A. Frisbie, 38 Pine Street. His death was very sudden and he passed away last night at his home in De Kalb, where he lived since his removal from Freeport some fifteen years ago. He was a conductor in the employ of the Northwestern road and for year had been on a run between De Kalb and Clinton, Iowa. He was a son of the late John Gochenour, one of the pioneer farmers of this county, and born in Lancaster Twp Oct 1854. Later the family removed to a farm near Florence Station and after reaching manhood Wesley came to Freeport and held a position for a number of years with the old Bartlett Hardware company, and when that company went out of business he went to work for the Northwestern railroad and later located in De Kalb. He was an honest and conscientious citizen; and earnest Christian and a devoted husband and father. He will be kindly remembered by a host of good friends in Freeport and vicinity. Mr. Gochenour is survived by his widow, whose maiden name was Mallory, also a pioneer family of this county, and four children---Arthur of Sycamore; Mr. John Swanton, Rockford, Mr. Edward Morgan, Morgan Park; and Mrs. Earl Yeager, De Kalb. His surviving sisters are Mrs. Frisbie, of Freeport, Mrs. McCoy of Polo; Mrs. French of Iowa and another sister, Mrs. Seymour, who engaged in missionary work in China. The funeral will be held from the family residence in De Kalb, Thursday."

BARBARA ANN GOODMAN - died October 24, 2010 at Liberty Village in Pittsfield, IL. Barbara was born in Pella, Iowa on November 2, 1922 to Mary Helen VanderLinden and William Dirk VanSittert. She attended Pella’s Central College then finished her education at Presbyterian-St.Lukes School of Nursing in Chicago. She married Lt. James Eugene Goodman, M.D. on April 13, 1945 at Mare Island Naval Base Chapel in Vallejo, California. Her parents, her husband, an older brother Warren and a young sister Ella Jane preceded her in death. She is survived by her four children, Mary Kathryn Neal (Gary) of Napa, California, Steven K. Goodman (Jeannie) of Pittsfield, Richard L. Goodman of Plainfield, IL and Douglas E. Goodman (Gail) of Tacoma, Washington, a younger brother, Logan VanSittert (Barbie) of Phoenix, Arizona, two sisters-in-law, Mary VanSittert of Pella, Iowa and Nouie Goodman of Marshalltown, Iowa, and a brother-in-law, Richard Niebur of Pittsfield. Barbara raised her family in Pleasant Hill, Il until 1979 when she and her husband moved to Macomb, IL where she worked at Beu Health Center at Western IL University. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren; Andy, Cameron (Holly), and Rebecca Neal; Scott (Jessica), Timothy, Jennifer Goodman Black (Mike), Molly, Megan Goodman, Gretchen Goodman Pawling (Scott), and Eric Goodman (Deeanna) and 12 great grandchildren; Alex, Brenden, Caitlyn, Olivia and Sam Neal, Samantha and Nicholas Black, Owen and Bryce Pawling and Shelby, Kai and Madison Goodman. Barbara loved to travel, visiting Europe, Africa and several mission trips to Haiti. Barbara was a Christian woman, always ready to serve, give of herself, and help others. She loved her family without reservation and would say “I have the best family ever! People just don’t believe me when I tell them how lucky I am” Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service is being planned for a later date. Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church or to the charity or organization of the donor’s choice. Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill is handling the arrangements.

JAMES EUGENE GOODMAN , 68, practicing physician in Pleasant Hill for over 40 years died suddenly at his home in that city at about 11 o'clock Sunday night, Jan 11 1953. Dr. Goodman and his wife had spent the evening with friends and upon arriving home he had gone to the refrigerator for a drink of water when he was stricken and collapsed, dying instantly. He had been afflicted with a heart ailment for a number of years. Dr. Goodman was born on a farm in Pike County, Mo., December 15, 1884 and was a son of James A. and Clarissa Goodman. He attended the neighborhood schools and Barnes Medical College in St. Louis, graduating from the latter in 1911. He started the practice of his profession in Louisiana, Mo., but in October 1912 came to Pleasant Hill where for a time he was associated with Dr. Russell P. Wells and later opened an office of his own. Dr. Goodman was a veteran of World War I, in which he was an officer in the medical corps and was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. He was a member of the Pike County Medical Society, on the staff of the Illini Community Hospital, a member of the Pleasant Hill Masonic Lodge, Union Chapter No. 10, Pittsfield and the Quincy Consistery. He belonged to the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and Pleasant Hill Lions Club. Dr. Goodman married Virginia Ogden of Pike County, Mo., who with two sons, Dr. Lawrence 0. Goodman, Marshalltown, Iowa; and Dr. Jas. E. Goodman, Jr., stationed at Pensacola, Florida, and a daughter, Kathryn (Mrs. Richard) Niebur, of Pittsfield, survive him. He is also survived by six grandchildren. Dr. Goodman was highly respected and loved in the vicinity in which he practiced and which he served faithfully and well. He will be sorely missed and his services and many acts pf kindness to those to whom he administered will long be remembered Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev Joe Maynard of Pittsfield officiating. Burial was in Crescent Heights cemetery at Pleasant Hill.

LAWRENCE O. GOODMAN , or as he was know to his friends, "L.O." died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, while under the care of the Iowa River Hospice House. Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 19, at First Baptist Church in Marshalltown with Pastor Richard Sipe officiating. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 18 at the church. L.O. was born Jan. 4, 1917 in Pleasant Hill, the oldest child of three children to Dr. James E. Goodman and Virginia K. (Ogden) Goodman. He graduated from Pleasant Hill High School in the spring of 1934, after participating in sports and serving as quarterback on the high school football team (135 lbs). He participated in Glee Club, Dramatics Club, and was co-editor of the school annual for 1934. Upon graduation, he was Valedictorian and Class President. He won a scholarship to the University of Illinois by competitive examination. He attended the University of Illinois from 1934 to 1936 (undergraduate) and then entered the University of Illinois Medical School in Chicago from 1936 to 1940, followed by an internship and residency at St. Louis City Hospital from 1940 to 1943. L.O. served in the United States Army/Air Force, entering as a medic in March of 1943. Upon honorable discharge in September 1945, he had attained the rank of Captain. He served two years in the Mediterranean Theater as assistant surgeon to the XII Air Force Service Command Headquarters. He received five battle stars. In 1946, L.O. joined the Marshalltown Medical Clinic consisting of Drs. E. Marble, W. Marble, Wells and Jefferies; later to be joined by Dr. Ron Terrill and Dr. Kenneth Lyons. In 1996 he retired from the practice of medicine at the age of 79 years. He dearly loved the practice of medicine. He didn't want to quit even at age 79, but upon his retirement he was heard to say "I better stop now before somebody sues me." In 1948 L.O. met and courted a girl from Auckland, New Zealand, Noue Lamont, who was visiting a fellow New Zealander here in Marshalltown. April 20, 1949, L.O. and Noue were married. One year later, in April of 1950, their first son, James Lamont Goodman was born; April 20, 1954, Richard Bruce Goodman was born and Jan. 12, 1959, Jeffrey Lawrence Goodman was born. L.O. and his wife raised three children in Marshalltown where he continued to reside until his death. In addition to his professional career, L.O. greatly enjoyed golf, three-cushion billiards and a variety of card games. He was active in the American Medical Association and served in the House of Delegates of the Iowa Medical Society. He was very active on the Evangelical Hospital Medical Staff and was very dedicated to the teaching of the cardiac arrhythmia course for ICU nurses. L.O. will be greatly missed by his devoted wife of over 60 years, Noue Goodman, his three sons, Jim (Dianne) Goodman of Marshalltown, Iowa; Rick (Kathy) Goodman of Kirkland, Wash.; Jeff (Liz) Goodman of Des Moines, Iowa; as well as five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

GREGORY LEE GORDLEY , 48, of Hannibal, died Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, at St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford, Ill., following a pickup truck, tractor-trailer accident in Dixon, Ill. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at the First Christian Church in Hannibal. The Rev. Steve Barker will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at Smith Funeral Home & Chapel. Greg was born May 1, 1961, in Jacksonville, Ill., to Gerald and Louise Downey Gordley. He was married to Lisa Clark Gordley in Hannibal Nov. 29, 1985, and she survives. Greg is survived by his wife, Lisa and daughter, Alaina Gordley, of the home; his parents of Chambersburg, Ill.; his sister, Jeris (Ron) Callarman, of Springfield, Ill.; his brother, Jeff (Leslie) Gordley of St. Louis, Mo.; his brother-in-law, Greg (BJ) Clark, of New London, Mo.; his sisters-in-law, Terri (Scot) Wade and Lori (Darell) Tischer; and his mother–in-law, Betty Hallows, all of Hannibal; his father-in-law, Dave Clark, of Seattle, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews who will truly miss their Uncle Greg. Greg attended Meredosia-Chambersburg High School and was very active in football, basketball and track and field, going to the state tournament to compete in pole vaulting. Greg also played American Legion baseball for many years. He graduated from Culver-Stockton College in 1983 with a degree in business administration and economics. He played baseball for Culver, excelling in several positions, especially pitching. Greg became a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity while at Culver and made many lasting friendships that last to this day. Greg worked for PORT Industries, Inc., in Palmyra for more than 23 years in their sales department, working up to the position of sales manager. He took great pride in his job and developed many valued customers over the years for whom he went the extra mile to ensure their satisfaction with the products he sold. Greg had a great love of nature and enjoyed spending time outdoors. He spent many hours in the Illinois and Missouri woods looking for that elusive turkey or fishing on Mark Twain Lake in his prized bass boat. Greg met many friends through his hunting and fishing escapades and always had a fishing story to tell. Another love of Greg’s was helping his dad on the family farm in Chambersburg. He spent his youth working alongside his beloved Grandad and always enjoyed going back home to help his dad work cows. He and his dad were best friends. The greatest light in Greg’s life was his daughter, Alaina, who he showered much time and attention on. They shared a great love of sports and spent many hours traveling together to watch local teams play. Greg spent many hours teaching Alaina things of life. Greg was baptized on Sept. 23, 1971, at Chambersburg Christian Church. He continued his journey with the Lord when he moved to Hannibal and attended First Christian Church with his family. Greg greatly loved the life he was given and thanked God for each day he was given with his family. Pallbearers will be Lynn Wade, Lew Wade, Richard Mauzey, Ken Philbert, Kevin Shimp, Scott Werries, David Mobley and Rodney Roberts.

KELLY A. (DAVIS) GORDON - was born in New York city December 17, 1814, and departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E. A. Bull, in Chicago...March 17, 1902, aged 87 years and 4 months. She was united in marriage to Nathaniel Gordon in 1832. He died October 16, 1882, having spent fifty happy years together. She came with her husband to Illinois in 1845 and to Pike county and this city about twenty-five years ago. During her residence in this city she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Jennie G. Crandall, until the death of Mrs. E. A. Crandall last year, when she went to make her home in Chicago, as above mentioned. Her health had been declining for several years, and while she was not able to go about much and visit her friends, she has a great many in this city who became personally acquainted with her only to love and respect her....Three children are living to mourn her death, which came after only a few hours' illness--Mrs. E. A. Bull of Chicago, N. F. Gordon, of Tacoma, Wash., and Mrs. Jennie G. Crandall of Barry, Ill. Other near relatives are six grandchildren....Funeral services were conducted from the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Weber Thursday, March 20, 1902...by W. M. Hailey and Rev. H. H. Burley, and burial was made in Park Lawn cemetery.

MARY (WIKE) GORDON - On Wednesday evening of last week the sad news came to relatives in Barry of the sudden death of Mrs. Mary Gordon, who resided near Minot, North Dakota. Mrs. Gordon was born and raised in Pike county, Illinois and has many friends in Barry and vicinity who will be sad to hear of her sudden death. She is survived by her husband and children--Mrs. C. H. Parker and Mrs. Ray Hopkins, of Minot, and Mrs. Darwin Campbell, of Harve, Montana,--three grandchildren, and a number of relatives in and around Barry. The Ward County Independent, published in Minot, in speaking of her death, says: "Mrs. J. D. Gordon, mother of Mrs. C. H. Parker, died at her home on the James Scofield farm, nine miles south of Minot, Wednesday evening from heart trouble. Mrs. Gordon had been about the house as usual looking after her household duties, and her condition was not considered serious at all. After the evening meal had been eaten, Mr. Gordon sat down to read, and his wife went on with the work, when she suddenly fell forward and died instantly. Mrs. Gordon was 49 years of age, and had lived in the vicinity of Minot for several years, coming here from the eastern part of the state. She was a woman of many fine attainments, and leaves many friends in and around the city.

BERTHA (SIMS) GOSNELL , 95, of Baylis died Wednesday June 29, 2005 at Royal Manor Boarding Home in New Salem. She was born April 1, 1910 to David and Eliza (Sparks) Sims of Rockport. She married Robert C. Gosnell March 15, 1930 in Pittsfield. He preceded her in death Feb. 24, 1992. She was a very religious woman of the Pentecostal Faith and loved to spend time with her grandchildren and enjoyed spending her winters in New Mexico and attending WTJE events in Quincy. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Duane (Jean) Gray of Lees Summtt, Mo. and one daughter-in-law, Dorothy Gosnell of New Salem; two step-grandchildren; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Ralph E. Gosnell, and one grandson, Robert Winking; five brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were Saturday, July 2, at 10 a.m. at the Kirgan Funeral Home. Visitation was Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial was at the Samuel Taylor Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to WTJR Christian Broadcasting.

DORIS (FANNING) GRABLE 68, of Griggsville, died at 1:11 p.m. Friday (February 26, 1988) in Illini Community Hospital, Pittsfield. Mrs. Grable was born July 10, 1919, in Liverpool, England, the daughter of Richard and Isabella Wright Fanning. She married Arnold Wayburn "Tiny" Grable Sept. 6, 1947, in Pittsfield. He died May 13, 1979. Mrs. Grable attended Pittsfield Assembly of God Church in Pittsfield. She was known in Griggsville for her craft work. Survivors include two daughters, Joan Grable of Payson and Betty Jean Grable of Griggsville; a nephew, David Brimm of Pittsfield; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Junior (Donna) Manker of Pittsfield. Preceding her in death were several aunts and uncles. Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Pittsfield Assembly of God Church by the Rev. Douglas Carter. Burial was in Pittsfield West Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Pittsfield Assembly of God Church.

JESSIE (CAPPS) GRADY was called to Elgin, Ill., last week by the serious illness of her mother-in-law, Mrs. Jessie (Capps) Grady, who passed away Tuesday night. The body was brought to Rockport for burial. The Grady family formerly lived at Rockport. Mrs. Grady was employed at the Elgin state hospital for the past four years. Mrs. Grady was born at Summer Hill, Ill., June 18, 1901, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Capps. She was married to Delbert Grady, November 25. 1920. Surviving are the husband, Delbert Grady of Bloomington; four children, Sgt. Newell Grady in the army air corps in France, Pvt. Donald Grady with the Marines in the South Pacific, Leonard Grady of Bloomington and Delberta Grady of Bloomington; her father, John Capps of Louisiana, Mo., a sister, Mrs. Nellie Mason of Quincy and two brothers, Joshua Capps of Peoria, and Lloyd Capps of Hannibal.

MARIE B. GRADY Services for Mrs. Marie B. Grady of Chapin, formerly of Pittsfield and Winchester, were at 2:30 Monday at the Assembly of God Church in Winchester with the Rev. Harold Hamilton and Rev. Harold George officiating. Interment was in the Gillham cemetery near Winchester. Coonrod Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Grady, retired minister of the Assembly of God Church after 45 years of service, died Aug. 11, 1978 at Norris Hospital, Jacksonville. She was 72 years of age. Born July 31, 1906 in Adams county, she was a daughter of Oliver and Pearl (Belford) Wilkins. She married James Brady in Pittsfield Dec. 11, 19??. He survives. Other survivors include two children James Grady Jr. of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Mrs. Willie (Myra) Six of Winchester; five grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Oliver (Vesta) Knell and Mrs. Jake (Verna) Lillard, both of Chandler, Ariz. Mrs. Jess (Thelma) Smithers of Pittsfield and Mrs. Avis Hocking of Auburn. Tow brothers preceded in death.

MYRL E. GRADY , 75, of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of Kinderhook, died Aug. 11, 2002 in Community Hospice of Northeast Florida. He was born Nov. 22, 1926 in Rockport to Ernest and Zora (Myers) Grady. He married Marie Jones who died in August 1978. He married Betty Fulford who died in October 1998. Myrl joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served during World War II, Korean War and two tours of duty in the Vietnam War, earning the National Defense Service Medal with bronze star, the Vietnam Service Medal with bronze star and the silver star for good conduct medal, seventh award. His last duty station was the submarine base in Groton, Conn. Before transferring to the fleet reserve in San Diego, Calif. He retired from the Navy in 1970, holding the rank of Chief Petty Officer, Submarine Service. He loved the Navy and the sea and was able to see many places in the world during his 26 years in the service of his county. He was a member of Grand Lodge of AF and AM 910 of Hull, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, S.J. USA Valley of San Diego and the Morroco Temple of Jacksonville, Fla. He was proud to be a member of the NRA Golden Eagles. He was an accomplished craftsman of hand tooled leather and an avid reader. Surviving are three sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathleen Dilley (Edward) of Mt. Vernon, Doris Kendrick (William) of New Canton and Mable Reed (Jim) of Hull and a stepson Gordon French of Portsmouth, Va. Myrl was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Norma and Ernestine, and a brother, Carl. Graveside services will be held in Samuel Taylor Cemetery in Rockport at 1 p.m. on Sept. 22 with military rites by the American Legion Honor Guard of Barry.

GEORGE R. GRUBB , 67 died at his home in Bakersfield, California after an illness of several months. He was a former Barry resident. Miss Rena Wike died in Seattle, Washington and her ashes were brought to Barry for internment. She was a daughter of John and Viletta Wike, former Barry residents.

HENRY GRUBB - Died, in Peoria, Illinois, on July 3d, Henry F. Grubb. The subject of this memoir was born in Barry, August 6th, 1850, and was consequently almost 31 years of age. He was the son of the late Judge Alfred and Eliza Grubb, and twin brother of Mrs. Dan Smith of this city. His remains were brought to this place and interred in the cemetery beside his honored father, just as the sun was sinking in the west. The services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Danely in an impressive manner. His aged mother and brothers and sisters who are among our most respected citizens, have the sympathy of the entire community.
