JESSIE FRANCES HAM , 98, of Chambersburg, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at Barton W. Stone Home in Jacksonville. She was born Feb. 8, 1912, in Chambersburg, the oldest daughter of Russell and Nellie Wade Smith. She married Felix Clay Ham on May 18, 1930, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 1, 1981. She is survived by one son, Roger (wife, Beverly) Ham of Chambersburg; a daughter-in-law, Virginia Trusty of Moberly, Mo.; five grandchildren, Debra Zuleger of Moberly, Mo., Richard (wife, Maureen) Ham of Lowell, Mass., Clay (wife, Diane) Ham of Lincoln, Ray (wife, Cristie) Ham of Morton and Susan (husband, Eric) MacDonald of Blue Springs, Mo.; 14 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Gary Ham; one grandson, Robert Ham; one great-grandson at birth, Adam Ham; one brother, Russell Smith, as a child; and one sister, Margaret Smith Brown and her husband, Harry Brown. Mrs. Ham was a 1930 graduate of Chambersburg High School. She was a member of the Chambersburg Christian Church and a member of the Senior Saints. She was a stay-at-home mother until her sons were grown. She later worked at the Chambersburg Telephone Office, the Chambersburg Post Office, The Meredosia Budget, and retired as a clothing aide from the Jacksonville Developmental Center. Jessie enjoyed singing and did so for many funerals and at church. She wrote a weekly article for the local paper called “News From the Burg.” She collected and wrote history about Chambersburg, some of which was put into books. She embroidered many dish towels which she shared with family and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Chambersburg Christian Church, with burial at Versailles West Cemetery. The family will meet friends at the church 1-2 p.m. prior to the service. Memorials are suggested to Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice. Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Meredosia is in charge of arrangements

THOMAS R. HAMMAN , 62, of Milton, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010, at his residence. He was born Dec. 4, 1947 in Pittsfield, son of Donald and Mary Katherine Sanderson Hamman. Surviving is his mother, Mary Katherine "Katy" Hamman of Milton; a sister, Toni Hamman of Springfield; three children and sev­eral grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Donald Hamman. Tommy was a graduate of East Pike High School in Milton, IL He was veteran of the U.S. Navy serv­ing two tours in Vietnam. He was a former employee of the Arizona Department of Corrections. Tommy loved to fish and enjoyed the out­doors. He was also an avid NASCAR fan. Tommy was a member of the Pittsfield American Legion and the Pike Co. V.F.W. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Sept. 22, at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Burial will be in Green Pond Cemetery near Milton. CARL J. HARMS , 78, of Hull, formerly of the Loraine area, died at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 29, 1985) in Blessing Hospital. He had been in failing health for more than 15 years. Mr. Harms was born Sept. 26, 1907, at West Point, a son of Albert and Christina Klingler Harms. He married Marie Linbenburger Feb. 5, 1936, She died Oct 17, 1954. He married Leona Chandler Bradshaw in Hull June 10, 1967. She survives. He attended Oak Forest School northwest of Loraine. He was a member of Sutter Salem Bible Church, but recently was attending the Hull Church of the Nazarene. He farmed the Loraine area for more tha 25 years and was a custodian at Central Baptist Church in Quincy for several years. His last employment was as a custodian at Hull Elementary School. He retired in 1972. Surviving are his wife, two sons, Dewayne of Quincy and Ronald of Mendon; a daughter, Mrs. Earl (Joan) Hochgraber of Quincy; four brothers, Paul of Mendon, Clarence of Sutter, Ralph of Tioga and Walter of Quincy; a sister, Mrs. Arthur (Hilda May) Jacobs of Basco; six grandchildren; one great-grandson, a step-son, Jerry Bradshaw of Hull; two step-daughters, Mrs. Bernard (Gilda) Erke, of Barry and Mrs. George (Karen) Hendren of LaMirada, Calif; 14 step-grandchildren, and 20 step-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by an infant son. Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the Sutter Salem Bible Church, conducted by the Rev. Paul Thomason. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Gideons International. Curry Funeral Home of Mendon is in charge of arrangements.

PEARL HARTMAN was born in Os­born county Kansas, August 7th, 1900, and died at Valley City, Ill., of influenza and pneumonia, Octo­ber 23rd, 1918. He came to Illinois with his par­ents when he was nine years old and has lived the most of his life in Valley City. He was married to Miss Elsie Lord at the age of twen­ty-three, and to this union were born two sons, Donald, who is three, and Gerald who is two years old. Left to mourn his death are his wife, two sons, his parents Mr. and Mrs. John Hartman of Valley City, sisters, Mrs. Lillia Stanfield. Mrs. Martha Thrasher, Mrs. Effie Anson, Mrs. Maude Barnes, Mrs. Pauline Copeland, and one brother, Orval Hartman, and a host of friends. The funeral services were con­ducted at the grave Friday after­noon in the Griggsville cemetery by Rev. J. D. Roach.

BETTY E. HARTER , 83 of Summer Hill passed away, Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the Illini Community Hospital Emergency Room in Pittsfield . Betty was born on August 6, 1926 in Hadley Township ( Barry ), a daughter to Jessie and Frances Smith Welch and was raised by Walter Autrey and her mother. She married Charles Harter on September 24, 1944 in Pittsfield and he survives. Betty had worked for the Summer Hill Drive Inn for 23 years. She attended the Summer Hill Congregational Church in Summer Hill , IL and as a farm wife enjoyed cooking, gardening and canning vegetables. Her husband Charles of 66 years, one brother, Ed Autrey of Jacksonville , IL , one nephew and three nieces, survives her. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Rev. Tom Wilber officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in the Pittsfield West Cemetery .

AL HARVEY , 61, of Barry, died at 7:15 p.m. Tues­day (Nov. 21, 1995) in Veterans Memorial Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. He was born May 13, 1934, in Pinehurst, Idaho, a son of Clyde and Bertha McClain Harvey. Mr. Harvey served as a Navy corpsman from 1950 to 1953 on the USS Hope hospital ship in the Atlantic. He moved to Barry in 1960 to join the Possum Holler Opry, which aired on WGEM-TV on Sundays for 10 years. Begin­ning in 1965, he and a partner, Toby Elsenpeter, toured the United States for the University of Kansas Extension Concert and Lecture Bureau for four years with marionettes, visiting schools, hospitals and government in­stitutions. He became materials management and purchasing agent for Levering Hospital in Hannibal, Mo., in 1972. In 1989, he received his nursing home administrator license and assumed adminis­trative duties at Bennick-Wiggins Nursing Home in Montgomery City, Mo. Mr. Harvey was a charter member and past president of the Missouri Central Service and Management Organization. He was a member of the Missouri Nursing Home Administrators' Association and enjoyed black­smithing. He was inducted into the Illinois Country Music Hall of Fame in 1991 and also was in­ducted into the Repertory Theatre Museum in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. Survivors include two sons, LaBaron and Aaron Harvey, both of Springdale, Ark.; two daughters, Sheila Harvey of California and Trina Mays of Springdale; five grandchildren; a brother, Glenn Harvey of Barry; three sis­ters, Lorene Coy of Galesville, Wis., Betty Coleman of Rockford and Nade Beaty of Barry; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Leon. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Barry. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. in the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Memorials may be given to the Barry-Pike County Cancer Support Group.

MARCELLUS K. HARVEY , was born near Barry, Ill., January 15, 1846, and died at his home in Robinson, Utah, January 15, 1905, aged 59 years. He was united in marriage Nov. 20, 1871, to Miss Mary Myers. She departed this life March 20, 1880 , leaving two small children, now Mrs. Dr. Tull, of Quincy, Ill., and Mrs. Dr. Stephens, of Robinson, Utah. Mr. Harvey was united in marriage a second time on April 23, 1883, to Miss Bird Bowers. To this union one son, Otis B., was born. His health had been failing for some months, nevertheless his death by pneumonia was some what sudden and a great shock to his friends. He joined the I.O.O.F. soon after the lodge was organized in Barry and continued his membership here until 1893, when he joined by card the lodge at Booneville, Mo., where he was a member in good standing at the time of his death. He was well-known in this community and his many friends both inside the lodge and outside of it extended their fullest sympathy to the bereaved family. His wife and children were all present to pay this last tribute of respect to an affectionate husband and loving father.

MARY E. (MYERS) HARVEY - At Boonville, Mo., on the 20th inst. of typhoid pneumonia, after a brief illness, Mary E., wife of Marcellus Harvey, age 30 years. Mary E. Myers, daughter of Wm. and Mary Myers, was born in Pike county, Ill., in January, 1850, and was married to Marcellus Harvey in Moberly, Mo., in December, 1871. She was a dutiful daughter, a kind sister, an amiable and devoted wife, a fond mother and a sound friend, and she well filled her short mission in life. She leaves a sorrowing husband and two small children to mourn her loss. The funeral obsequies were observed at the Baptist church at 2 P.M. on Sunday afternoon and were attended by a large concourse of sympathizing friends. The services were conducted by Eld. W. E. Berry and her remains deposited in the public cemetery.

HELEN I. (DRAKE) HASSETT , 81, of Pittsfield, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at her residence in Pittsfield. She was born on August 5, 1929, in Pearl, Illinois, a daughter of Leslie O. and Edith Kessinger Drake. She married Daniel Patrick Hassett on June 7, 1946, and he preceded her in death on February 23, 1964. She worked as a cutter/laborer for the Brown Shoe Company of Pittsfield, Illinois. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Altar Society and the Legion of Mary all of Pittsfield, Illinois. She enjoyed her family and loved spending time with them and helping her daughter Shawn at Shawn’s daycare. She also enjoyed dining out. Surviving is her son Mike Hassett of Pittsfield, IL, two daughters, Shawn (Danny) Taylor and Sharon (Denny) Lowe, both of Pittsfield, Illinois. Six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel in 1964, two brothers, Elmer and Clarence Drake, and two sisters in infancy: Vera Bristow and Frances Allen, and a great granddaughter, Danielle Lynn Taylor. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 5, 2010 at the Niebur Funeral Home with Father Mark Schulte officiating. Burial will be at the Greenpond Cemetery, Pearl, Illinois. A visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home on Saturday, September 4, 2010. A prayer service will be held at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at the Niebur Funeral Home.

FRANCES R. (JACKSON) HAWKINS was born Oct. 19, 1919 in Elyria , Ohio and died Jan. 23, 1981 in Louisiana , MO. Burial was in Crescent Heights Cemetery , Pleasant Hill , IL . She married Leslie G. Hawkins on Nov. 21, 1945 in Cleveland , OH , he survives. Her father was Francis Jackson, her mother, Stella (surname not stated). WWII Navy vet. Survived by one son: Frank of Louisiana, Mo.; two daughters: Mrs. Gary (Lynn) Shireman of Pleasant Hill and Mrs. Gene (Becky) Crum of Pittsfield; one brother: John Jackson of Allandale, Fla.; five sisters: Mrs. Ethel Mossholder, Mrs. Esther Frazee and Mrs. Mary Sarver of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, and Mrs. Betty Galloway of Pleasant Hill, and Mrs. Hazel Fox of East Alton; and three grandchildren.

LUCILLE (TAYLOR) HAWKINS , 79, of Pleasant Hill, died Thursday, December 19, 1996 at Pike County Memorial Hospital in Louisiana, MO. She was a homemaker and a member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. Born August 17, 1917 in Pleasant Hill, she was a daughter of Frank and Gertrude Franklin Taylor. She married Ralph H. Hawkins on December 31, 1936. He preceded her in death on November 23, 1987.Survivors include a son, Ronald Hawkins of Pleasant Hill; a daughter-in-law, Sharen of Pleasant Hill; two granddaughters, Regina Turner of Nebo and Diana Hawkins of Kampsville; and two great-granddaughters, Earon and Lindsey Turner of Nebo. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Visitation was held at Ward­Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill. The funeral was conducted Monday, December 23, 1996 at Ward-Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill with Rev. Joseph Wartick officiating. Burial was in Crescent Heights Cemetery in Pleasant Hill. Memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Volunteer Ambulance Unit.

EDWARD HECK , age 87 formerly of 2107 Payson Avenue, died Saturday (Dec 5, 2009) at the Illinois Veterans' Home. He was born April 10, 1922 in Pittsfield, Illinois the son of Ray O. Heck and Anna Dixon Heck. He was of the Protestant faith. On November 25, 1953 he married Roberta Parks Ramsey in Quincy. She survives. Mr. Heck attended Moline High School. He was in the 101st Airborne Division in Europe during World War II and fought in the "Battle of the Bulge". He was employed at John Deere, Gardner Denver and retired after 26 years from Moorman Mfg. Co. He was in the Safety Department. He was a life long member of Herman Lodge #39 A.F. & A.M., a member of Quincy Consistory and Mohammed Shrine in Peoria. Survivors include 2 daughters, Linda Sue Meyer of Quincy and Sharen Judith; a granddaughter, Kelly Lynn Meyer of Quincy; and serveral nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Franklin, William, Roy and Ray, a sister Louise, and a son-in-law, Carlton Ross Meyer. Services: Wednesday at 10 am in the Hansen-Spear Funeral Home with the Rev. John Adams officiating. Masonic services will be at 6:00 pm by Herman Lodge #39 A. F. & A. M. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

ROBERT W. HEIGHTMAN , 84, of rural Pittsfield, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. He was born near Pittsfield, Oct. 12, 1926, a son to William and Pearl -Dell Heightman. He married Grace McCartney in 1948 and she preceded him in death Oct. 9, 1961. Robert married Naomi Ruhl June 18, 1965, in Springfield, Mo. and she sur­vives. Robert was a grain and livestock farmer and one of the first in Pike County to try the new innovations in farming. In earlier years he taught Sunday school, served as a Deacon and helped build the addition to the Pittsfield Church of Christ. He was member of the Barry Church of Christ. He enjoyed Lake Pittsfield which he lived near, bird watching, woodworking, making clocks, and making toys for his grandchildren. He was a member of the Pike County Farm Bureau and the Pittsfield American Legion Post #152 and served in the Army as a military policeman during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Naomi and seven children, Mark Heightman of Nashville, Tenn., Eric (Sandy) Heightman of Swansea, George (Sharla) Heightman of Quincy, Martha (Bob) Lindsley of Sullivan, Mo., Sarabeth (Brian) Felushko of Vancouver, B.C., Canada, Rose Heightman of Ursa and Paula Simmons of Quincy. Fifteen grandchildren surviving are Korey Heightman and Karin Heightman, Tim Lindsley and Seth Lindsley, Tabatha Walker, John Felushko and Daniel Felushko, Britnay Taylor, Adam Heightman, Caitlin Heightman and Rebekah Heightman, Jacob Heightman and Ella Heightman, Breanna Simmons and Kolby Simmons. Fourteen great grandchildren, a brother, Richard (Mary Arm) Heightman of Pittsfield and several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Interment of ashes will be at the West Cemetery in Pittsfield with military graveside rites accorded by the Pittsfield American Legion Post #152. There is no visitation. A private lunch will be held for the family at the Pittsfield American Legion after interment. Friends may visit with the family from 2:30 — 3:30 p.m. at the Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Barry Church of Christ, Blessing Hospital Hospitality House or donor's choice.

JOSEPH RUSSELL HICKS , 39, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2010 near Chouteau, Oklahoma. He was the son-in-law of Larry and Sue Potter of New Salem, Il. Joe was born on June 20, 1970 in Pryor, Oklahoma, the son of Charles Russell Hicks and Carma Beatrice (Sisco) Hicks. He married Kelly Potter on June 19, 1993 at Sunrise Beach, Missouri and she survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Joseph Hicks, Dale Russell Hicks, Beatrice Hicks and Alysia Hicks all of Oklahoma; a brother, David and wife, Tammie of Jacksonville, IL; a step-brother, Leonard and wife Cheryl Charrier of Pryor, OK; two sisters, Teresa Stephenson and husband, Randall of Altus, OK and Tammy Hicks and Jed Jarvis of Pauls Valley, OK; two nieces, Carma Stephenson and Aerycka Hicks; his aunt, Connie Walker of Choctaw, OK and his uncle, Albert Sisco of McMinsville, OR; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Larry and Sue Potter of New Salem, Il.; and numerous other relatives and friends. Joe worked as an independent truck driver for B&S Trucking. Joe was a member of the Owner Operator Independent Driver Association, (OOIDA) He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping. Joe loved his family. He will be so very missed by all who knew and loved him. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Monday (January 25, 2010) at Gray Cemetery near New Salem, Il.

MACEY HITTNER , infant daughter of Megan Davis Hittner and Kevin Hittner of Milton died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at birth at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. Macey is survived by her parents and two brothers, Cadin and Keaton; grandparents, Gary and Denise Davis and Darrel and Linda Hittner; great grandmother, Margaret Hittner; and great grandfather, Don Greening, all of Pittsfield. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. Private services were held Sunday, Aug. 23, at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Rev. Tom Wilbur officiating. Burial was at the Pittsfield West Cemetery.

LEE HOLLOWAY , 87 of Pittsfield, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, at St. Johns Hospital in Springfield. Lee was born Feb.25, 1922 in Martinsburg Twp., Pike County, a son of Clyde and Pauline Ottowa Holloway. He married Mildred Sanderson Aug.8, 1940 in Louisiana, Mo. and she survives. Lee worked at Pike County Farm Service Co as a petroleum salesman later becoming sales manager and operations manager at Amboy, and later as plant manager of the Kinderhook Il. FS Plant. He was a veteran of WWII and served in the U.S. Navy on a LST. Lee is a member of the Pearl Church of Christ. Pittsfield American Legion Post 152, American Pencil Collectors Society. He was an Avid bowler and enjoyed woodworking. Survivors are his wife of 69 years Mildred Holloway of Pittsfield; two sons, Terry (wife Myra) Holloway of Conifer Colo. and Chris (wife Nancy) Holloway of Springfield; a daughter, Mrs. Lynne (Leonard) Link of Sterling; one brother, Dee Holloway of Pearl; three sisters, Mrs. Virginia (Bernard) Ator and Mrs. Julia (Roger) Hatcher both of Pearl and Mrs. Sue (Jim) Robinson of Jacksonville; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded by a daughter Kathleen Holloway Kommick. Funeral services will be today, Wednesday, Aug. 12 at 2 p.m. at Niebur Funeral home in Pittsfield with Pastor Ed Green officiating. Burial will be at Greenpond Cemetery near Pearl Friends called Tuesday from 4 till 8 p.m. at Niebur Funeral Home, Pittsfield

ALFRED LEE HOOPER , 66, of Summer Hill , IL passed away Saturday, January 16, 2010 at St. Louis University Medical Center in St. Louis , MO. He was born in Pittsfield , IL on August 20, 1943 a son to Waunda W. and Mary A. Peecher Hooper. He married Patricia Tucker on April 3, 1971 at the Pittsfield United Methodist Church and she survives. Alfred Lee was a truck driver since 1985 for Gully Transportation in Quincy and farmed in the Atlas Township . He was an Air Force veteran and a member of the Summer Hill Congregational Church. His interests included being a member of the Pittsfield Lodge #790 AF & AM, the Griggsville Saddle Club and in his earlier year’s he was very active in the Pittsfield FFA Chapter and served as Vice President. He enjoyed camping, fishing, his Farmall “H” and Ford 8N tractors, trail rides, horse shows, and spending time with his family and friends, especially family reunions. His wife Patricia and three children survive him, Philip Hooper of Oakland , KY ; Lance (Shelly) Hooper of Stilesville , IN ; and Amy Hooper of Clinton , IL . along with two granddaughters, two grandsons and one great granddaughter. Nephews and nieces surviving are Bill (Karen) Hooper of Pittsfield, IL; Bob Hooper of Carbondale, IL; Paula Goewey of Nebo, IL; and Katy Hooper of St. Louis, Mo. A brother, Edgar Paul Hooper in 2003 and a sister preceded him in death in infancy. Services are being held at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 21, 2010 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Michael TenEyck officiating. Interment will be in the Summer Hill Cemetery with military graveside rites being accorded by the Pittsfield American Legion Post #152. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, January 20, after 5 p.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield .

THOMAS HOOPER - Yesterday there was deposited in the Sargent [should be Swiggett Cemetery] cemetery near New Salem the remains of a veteran pioneer of the county in the person of Thomas Hooper, aged about 89, who had died a day previous while on a visit to his grand-daughter, Mrs. Dean, residing north of this city. The funeral was held at Pleasant Grove church, Rev. Young of the Methodist church officiating. He was a member of one of the earliest families to settle in New Salem township and there are a large number of descendants springing from such settlement. [Pittsfield Democrat, 3 Apr 1901, p5 c1] Thos. Hooper, an old and highly respected citizen of New Salem, was buried at Swigert's [Swiggett] cemetery near that place yesterday. He was nearly 90 years of age. His wife and six children died before him, only four children surviving.

ROSE HOOS , 89, of the Illinois Veteran’s Home, Quincy, Illinois, formerly of Pittsfield, Illinois, died Thursday, December 23, 2010 at the Illinois Veteran’s Home. She was born on October 12, 1921 in Altoona, PA to Charles L. and Jessie Dale Johnston. She married Charles W. Hoos on October 31, 1954 in Pittsfield, Illinois and he preceded her in death on March 11, 1996. She was employed as a secretary with the General Telephone System of Illinois. She enjoyed reading and crocheting. She was a member of the Methodist Church of Pittsfield, Illinois and the Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by one sister Nelda Johnston of Altoona, PA.,, one brother Charles (Ruth) Johnston of Altoona, PA and two nephews, Kaye Don Calhrop of Colorado and Gaylan D. Calhrop of Indiana. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles and one sister, Lois Johnston. Graveside Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 27, 2010 at the West Cemetery in Pittsfield with Rev. John Ruzich officiating. Burial at the West Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

EUNICE LEONA (GULLY) HOWARD , 89, of Barry Community Care Center, formerly of New Canton, left to spend eternity with her Heavenly Father at 12:10 p.m. Tuesday, October 5, 2010, at the Barry Community Care Center, Barry. She was born December 9, 1920, in Martinsburg, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph R. and Mary Florine Loyd Gully. She married (Bud) Elmer Ira Howard, Jr. on June 26, 1939, at Bowling Green, Missouri. He passed away December 17, 1991. She is survived by a daughter, Kathryn (James L. ) Smith, of New Canton; a son, John D. (Connie) Howard, of Excelsor Springs, Missouri; 2 brothers, Joseph E. Gully, of Barry and William (Barbara) Gully, of Quincy; grandchildren, Toni McKay, of Liberty, Tim Smith, of New Canton, Sue (Danny) Smith, of Roodhouse, Todd Howard, Troy Howard, Stephanie Howard and Sonny Howard, of Excelsor Springs and Scott Spann, of Arizona; and several great grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Joseph Elmer (Sonny) Howard, a daughter Mary Howard Spann Bradshaw, 3 brothers, Leslie (Buck), Leo (Pedro) and Lloyd Gully; a granddaughter April Howard, a great granddaughter Mechelle Swain and a grandson-in-law Craig L. McKay. In 1927 she lived in El Dara when their mother died of Scarlet Fever leaving 6 children age 10 days to 10 years. She graduated from Barry High School in 1938 and received her certificate as a licensed practical nurse in 1973. She worked at the Barry Community Care Center, Illinois Veterans Home and Pleasant Hill Nursing Home. She was a member of the New Canton United Methodist Church, a 50+ year member of the Order of Eastern Star, had been active with PTA and other community organizations.

LINNIE (WALKER) CHAPLIN HOWE , 81, of Pleasant Hill, mother of Mrs. Mabel Kinne of Barry, passed away Tuesday morning, June 6, 1961 at 4:00 o'clock in the Couch NursingHome at Pittsfield, where she had een a patient for the past two and one-half years. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon June 8, at 2 o'clock in the Ward Chapel at Pleasant Hill, in charge of the Revs. Wilbur Torrance and Ed Higgins. Interment will be in Taylor Cemetery near Rockport. Mrs. Howe was born November 5, 1879, at Eolla MO, the daughter of Thomas and Mary Lindsey Walker. She was twice married, first to Levi Chaplin and later to Charles Howe. Both precededher in death. Surviving are four children, Mrs. Kinne of Barry, Louie Chaplin ofKampsville, Mrs. Dorothy Tobias of Sullivan MO and Olin Chaplin of Hannibal; a brother, Smith Walker and a sister Mrs. Clyde Sunderland, both of Pleasant Hill; 22 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

EDNA L. HUNTLEY , 86, of Pittsfield passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield. She was born December 5, 1923 a daughter to John A. and Irene Doyle Conkright. She married Junior Kinne in 1938 and later married Norman Huntley August 31, 1973 and he preceded her in death December 17, 2003. Edna was a supervisor at Brown Shoe Factory for several years. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and enjoyed sewing, needlework, embroidery, crewel stitchery, cooking and reading. Surviving are two daughters, LuAnn (Vernon) Sevier of Pittsfield and Darla (Gary) Norton of Quincy along with three grandchildren, Shane Sevier of Pittsfield; DeAnna Norton of Evans, GA; and Scott Huntley of Memphis, TN. Four great grandchildren, one stepson, David (Patricia) Huntley of Seymour , TX and one sister, Mary (Mac) McClintock of Pittsfield , eight nieces and two nephews also survive. Edna was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Conkright, nephew Randy McClintock and niece, Joy Grable. Services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, January 9 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Rev. Bill Herald officiating. Interment will be in the Pittsfield West Cemetery . Visitation will be held Friday evening, January 8 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield .

Mission #158 April 5, 1945 B-17G 44-8283 B/G “Dinah-Mite” Missing in Action Nuremburg flak. At bombs away, one bomb hug up on one end of the shackle. The plane left formation and began trailing behind, eventually losin sight of formation due to low visibility. Crossing the coast 5-7 miles East of Dunkirk, flak and machine gun fire hit the plane, seriously wounding Harris (B). A fire broke out behind #2 engine and the left alerion was shot out. Share (R) was also wounded. Ditched in the English Channel. At ditching Harris (B) was either dead or near dead. Huntley (CP) apparently never managed to get out. Deines (WG) got out but was holding on the tail section and would not release, saying he could not swim, even though he was wearing a MaeWest. He went down with the tail, still holding on. With 18BS. Pilot: Mehling. No Missing Air Crew Report. 3 Killed in Action, 6 rescued from the Channel and 5 returned to duty. Share (R) was severely wounded and lost his right leg as a result.
