HELEN HACKMAN , 88, of Pittsfield, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 1996 in the Pittsfield Healthcare Center. Born Oct. 8, 1908 in New Melle, Mo., Miss Hackman was a daugh­ter of John H. and Lydia Meier Hackman. Miss Hackman came to Pike County in 1942 to become home extension adviser with the Pike County Home Extension, division of the University of Illinois, serving the various communities in the county in that capacity until 1978. She was honored in 1952 with the Distinguished Service Award by the National Home Demonstration Agents Association. Miss Hackman had earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Missouri and did graduate work at the University of Wisconsin and Colorado State University. She also held a bache­lor of arts degree. She taught school in Wright City and Cape Girardeau, Mo. Miss Hackman was a member of Pittsfield United Methodist Church, Pittsfield Business and Professional Women and Pike County Home Extention. She had served on various committees with the Illinois Advisor's Association and also had been a member of the National Home Demonstration Agents Association, Tri-County Association for Crippled Children, having served as vice president, and Illinois Nutrition Committee. Survivors are a sister, Mrs. Luella Alley of Peoria; and a nephew, John R. Alley of Chicago. She was preceded in death by a sis­ter, Milda Brandt. Services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield by the Rev. John K. McIntosh. Burial was in Linn Cemetery in Wentzville, Mo. Memorials may be made to Pittsfield First United Methodist Church.

ANNABEL (HOSKINS) HADDOCK , 45, a lifetime resident of El Dara, died Saturday at 3:30 in Illini Community Hospital, Pittsfield. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, June 26, at 2 o'clock from the El Dara Methodist Church with Rev. R. Moss, the Rev. James Hutton and the Rev. James Bryant officiating. Burial was in the Taylor Martin Cemetery. Mrs. Haddock was born at El Dara June 4, 1922, a daughter of I. A. and Nettie Irick Hoskins. She attended Pittsfield High school and a college at Aurora. She was employed as a bookkeeper in the First National Bank and was bookkeeper for Barry public schools. She was a member of the El Dara Methodist Church and married Herbert Haddock April 14, 1946. Surviving are the husband and her mother, a son, Joseph Haddock at two daughters, Theresa Ann and Ellen Haddock, at home, and a sister, Mrs. L. B. Mellon of Aurora.

JOE HANES , from Kinderhook , IL , 82 years, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010 at his residence near Kinderhook. Joe was born in Claremore , OK on May 6, 1927 to Charles and Leticia Skidmore Hanes. He married Vernadine White in 1949 in Peoria , IL and she survives. Joe was a bridgeman, and worked for American Bridgeman and various local ironworkers unions. He was a Major Connector while working on the 5 ½ mile Mackinaw suspension bridge in Michigan where he was credited with saving 5 co-worker’s lives and various others throughout his career. His last major project before retiring was the new Quincy Bayview bridge. In addition to ironworking he owned and farmed two farms near his home for 50 years. He was a US Navy veteran serving in WWII. Joe was also a member of the NRA, and was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. Joe was a man’s man and a man of God. He was a member of the Hannibal Assembly of God and the Family Worship Center in Atlas. Survivors include his wife, Vernadine, 2 sons; Joe (wife Nettie) Hanes, Jr and Jonathan Hanes both of Rockport , IL and 2 daughter; Rita Jo (husband James) Baker of St. Peters, MO and Bonnie (husband Marvin) Cox of Prosper, TX. 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren survive along with a brother, Philip Hanes of CA and a sister, Phyllis Armstrong of Claremore , OK . He was preceded in death by 8 brothers and sisters. Services will be held on Monday, March 15, 2010 at 10 am at the Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry with Marvin Cox and James Baker officiating. Interment will be at Park Lawn Cemetery in Danvers , IL near Bloomington at 3 pm Monday. Visitation will be held from 3 – 7 pm Sunday evening at the funeral chapel in Barry

MARJORIE (GALLOWAY) HARDESTY , 91, of Carmi passed away Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 9:00 am at Phoenix Rehab and Nursing. She was born December 8, 1918 on a Farm near the Martinsburg Community in Pike County, IL, the third daughter of Clifford and Margaret (Long) Galloway. Marjorie married Bruce G. Hardesty August 19, 1950 and he preceded her in death on March 18, 1984. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Loyd, Leslie, Lyndle, Laurence and Cleon Galloway and two sisters, Maude Burbridge and Mary Helen Wyatt. Marjorie was a Graduate of Pittsfield High School. She attended Western Illinois Teachers College in Macomb, and upon graduation came back to teach in the original one room school in very rural Pike county near Martinsburg. She then left to attend Southern Baptist Training School and from there joined a group of teachers in the Eastern Kentucky Coal towns, was principal of the school and taught fifth grade. She also did mission work while living in the area. Leaving that area she came back to Illinois to Southern IL University and completed her B. A. in Education. After graduation she took a position as Young Peoples Director with Illionis Baptist Association located in Carbondale. She served in the position for three years. As a new bride she came to Enfield, with her husband Bruce Hardesty, she taught briefly in Enfield and eventually took a job in the Carmi School Systems where she taught for 34 years. While teaching in Carmi she completed her education recieving a Masters in Education. After retirement she moved to Carmi and took membership in the First Baptist Church a place she had always loved and it is here that her life has finally closed. She is survived by her son, Roy Hardesty of Carmi, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Marjorie E. Hardesty, 91, of Carmi will be Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi with the Rev. Luke Raczykowski officiating. Burial will be in the White County Memorial Garden near Carmi. Friends may call at the Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi on Tuesday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

HELEN I. HASSETT ,81, of Pittsfield, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at her residence in Pittsfield. She was born on August 5, 1929, in Pearl, Illinois, a daughter of Leslie O. and Edith Kessinger Drake. She married Daniel Patrick Hassett on June 7, 1946, and he preceded her in death on February 23, 1964. She worked as a cutter/laborer for the Brown Shoe Company of Pittsfield, Illinois. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Altar Society and the Legion of Mary all of Pittsfield, Illinois. She enjoyed her family and loved spending time with them and helping her daughter Shawn at Shawn’s daycare. She also enjoyed dining out. Surviving is her son Mike Hassett of Pittsfield, IL, two daughters, Shawn (Danny) Taylor and Sharon (Denny) Lowe, both of Pittsfield, Illinois. Six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel in 1964, two brothers, Elmer and Clarence Drake, and two sisters in infancy: Vera Bristow and Frances Allen, and a great granddaughter, Danielle Lynn Taylor. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 5, 2010 at the Niebur Funeral Home with Father Mark Schulte officiating. Burial will be at the Greenpond Cemetery, Pearl, Illinois. A visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home on Saturday, September 4, 2010. A prayer service will be held at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at the Niebur Funeral Home.

ETHEL (GRIMSLEY) HEARD , 84, of Pittsfield, IL. and formerly of Barry, died Monday, June 06, 2005 at her residence in Pittsfield. She was born April 27, 1921 in Rockport, IL to William and Bertha Keith Grimsley. She married Ralph Heard and he preceded her in death in 1992. Mrs. Heard enjoyed dancing, bowling, camping and especially loved her children and grandchildren. She was of the Christian faith. Survivors included two sons: Larry Heard of Peoria, IL and Rodney (wife Debbie) Heard of Grafton, OH., two daughters; Sheila (husband Buddy) Poythress of Newburn, NC. and Sandra Summers of Pittsfield, one brother, Charlie Grimsley of New Canton, three sisters, Glady Blackledge of Quincy, Lucille Ward of Rushville and Mabel Barber of Moline, ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and special friend, Charlene. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Ronald (Bud) Heard, five sisters and six brothers. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to services at the Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry, IL. Ronald Heard will be officiating. Burial will be at Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry following the services. Memorials are suggested to the Pike County Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

HARVEY HENSON , 87, of Hull, died, Thursday, May 5, 2011, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. Funeral services were at 11a .m. Monday, May 9, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Bert Sapp officiated. Burial with full Military Rites was at Memorial Park in Quincy. Visitation was from 10 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home. Mr. Henson was born April 26, 1924 to William and Mary Inman Henson. He was married to Dorothy Marie Scranton. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Ronnie Henson (Sue) of Hull, Gene Henson (Jean) of Liberty and Rick Henson (Mindy) of Springfield; four daughters, Louella Wagner of Hull, Tina Sanders (Phillip Krueger) of Auxvasse, Mo., Karen Smith (Mike) of Hull and Sharon Henson of Quincy; one brother, Arvel Henson (Betsy) of Carrolton, Mo.; three sisters, Faye of Whitehall, Dorothy of Palmyra, Mo., Gracie of Florida; 34 grandchildren; and 89 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by parents, five brothers, Charles, Melvin, Tom, Donald and Johnny; two sisters, Juanita and Bert; one grandson and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Henson was U S Veteran, having served during W W II. He worked at Electric Wheel in Quincy, retiring after 12 years. Grandpa you will be missed and loved by all. You were a very strong man. RONALD HENSON , 58, of Hull, died Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, at Riverside Cemetery in Hannibal, Mo. Visitation was held Tuesday from 10 until 10:45 a.m. at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. Mr. Henson was born Aug. 18, 1952 in Pittsfield to Harvey Lee and Dorothy Marie Scranton Henson. He was married on May 5, 2006 in Hannibal, to Susan L. Epperson. She survives. Other survivors include his mother, seven children, Chub Henson (Cindy), Sherry Sue Riley (Dwain), Jessica Epperson (John), Marsha Baker (Danny), Gregory Lish, Michael Lish, Teonna Scoville (John); 2 brothers, Gene Henson (Jean) and Rick Henson(Mindy); 4 sisters, Louella Henson, Tina Sanders (Phillip), Karen Smith (Mike) and Sharon Henson; 25 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Henson was preceded in death by his father, a son, Ronald Lee Henson Jr., and a grandson, Tristin Lee Henson. Mr. Henson was self employed and owned his own power washing business. He enjoyed fishing, working on cars, and spending time with family and friends. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. JOHN D. HILEMAN , 47, of Barry died Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL. He was born August 16, 1957 in Pittsfield and is the son of Ray and Charlotte Dixon Seyl of Barry. Survivors include his parents, three brothers, Chuck Hileman and R. C. Seyl both of Barry and Travis Hileman; a special niece, Heather Hileman and sister-in-law, Connie of Barry; two aunts, Freda Akers and Katherine Williams, both of Barry, and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by an aunt and three uncles. John loved his family, especially his Mom, and listening to rock and roll music. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and horses. He attended school in Barry. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, June 17, 2005 at Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry with Rev. Darin Workman officiating. There will be no formal visitation.

IRVIN C. HIRST , 83, of Mission, Texas, formerly of Barry, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, in Mission Hospital, Mission, Texas. He was born May 11,1927, on the family farm in Calhoun County, to Carrol and Beulah (Becker) Hirst. They preceded him in death. He married Elizabeth L. (Betty) Hubbard April 28, 1951, in Nebo. She died April 7, 2002. He married Betty Lou Bain March 15, 2003, in Mission. She survives in Mission. He is also survived by four sons, Phillip Hirst and his wife, Beth of Peoria, Gale Hirst of Westerville, Ohio, Raymond Hirst and his wife Mary Ann, of Quincy and Rodney Hirst and his wife Jan of Metamora; and one daughter, Barbara and her husband Bob Irick, of Kansas City, Mo. Also survived by four grandsons, Chad Hirst and wife Lori, of Eureka, Jacob Hirst of Metamora, and Chase and Lucas Hirst of Peoria; four granddaughters, Cassie Keschinger and husband Kevin, of Parkville City, Mo.; Jessica Burkett and husband Lance of Kansas City; Courtney Stivers and husband Ryan of Arkansas and Ashton Hirst of Peoria; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Glen Hirst and Kenneth Hirst; and two sisters, Vera Vetter and Moina Miller. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Keith Hirst and John Hirst. Irvin was a W.W. II Navy Veteran & member of the VFW. He had once served as Mayor of Barry for eight years. He was a member of the Barry Church of Christ. He retired from General Telephone Company after 40 years of service. In his spare time he enjoyed bowling and the Lions Club. Visitation were held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Pittsfield. Memorials are suggested to the Barry Church of Christ.

DICK HOLD , 94, of Pittsfield, died, Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Liberty Village in Pittsfield. {{More}} He was born Jan. 30, 1916 in New Liberty, a son of Harley and Riffie Lagore Holt. He married LaVerne McCleery and she preceded him in death. He later married Lela Sandman March 9, 1951 and she also preceded him in death. Dick was an engineer for the Wabash Railroad for 30 plus years. In his early years he worked at the CCC camps in Metropolis and Pittsfield and also worked on the TVA Project. He was a member of the Pittsfield Moose Lodge #420. Surviving is a special friend, Lucy Ballard of Ramsey; daughters, Pat (Carl) White of Nebo and Peggy (Lyle) Hill of Pittsfield; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Harley Holt, Jr. of Oklahoma and Jim Holt of Metropolis; and sister, Bell Borum of Metropolis. Dick was preceded in death by a brother, Ted and sister, Ruby. Services will be held at 11 A.M. on Thursday, March 11, at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery near Bluffs. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. Thursday until the time of service.

JEANETTE M. (LOGSDON) HOLLAND , 64, of Barry, IL. died Wednesday morning, June 15, 2005 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Il. She was born January 12, 1941 near Pearl, IL to Jesse and Ruby Welty Logsdon. Jeanette enjoyed cooking, short camping trips in the motor home, shopping, boating and staying in the cabin on the Mississippi River near Hull. She was owner and operator of the Village Inn Cafe and former owner of the Black Lantern Tavern in Barry. She would cook Thanksgiving dinner and open the door on Thanksgiving Day for those who had no family and she particularly enjoyed her pet dog, JoJo. She is survived by her companion of 35 years, Robert Williams of Barry, a daughter, Mrs. John (Cheryl) Webber of Davenport, IA; three brothers, Jesse Logsdon of South Roxanna, Il, John Logsdon of Barry and Ronald Logsdon; a sister Dessie Edwards of Cottage Hills, IL., several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, June 18, 2005 at the Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry with Pastor Burt Sapp officiating. Visitation will be Friday evening with family meeting friends from 4-8 PM at the Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry following the services. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Blessing Hospice.

CHARLES G. HUBBARD , son of Francis and Saphrona Hubbard was born Jan. 31, 1873, and departed this life in Jacksonville May 8, 1920, aged 47 years, 4 months and 8 days. He was married to Miss Myrtle Heavner January 16, 1898. To this union were born six children. He united with the Christian Church at Independence in the year 1898 and has since lived a consistent member. He leaves to mourn his departure his loving wife and six devoted children: Paul who is married and lives on the old home place, Wayne, Frank, Roy, Ruth and Russell one grandchild little Hazel and one brother, besides a host of relatives and friends....Funeral services were conducted at the home North of Nebo on Monday May 10 by Elder Will Cannon. Interment was in the Mason Cemetery.

The whole community was shocked last Saturday when the news came from Jacksonville that Charles Hubbard was dead. A few months ago he was the picture of health; a strong vigorous man. For the past few weeks he had been failing rapidly and last Thursday it was decided to take him to Jacksonville for an examination. His complaint was pronounced Addison's disease for which there is no cure and he passed away at 4:20 p.m. Saturday afternoon. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community.

CHARLES HUBBARD , age 87, of Pleasant Hill died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. He was born Aug. 10, 1921 in Calhoun County, the son of Charles and Nancy Elizabeth Grammar Hubbard, Sr. He married Jean Yoc-um Oct. 26, 1940 in Bowling Green, Mo. and she survives. Charles was a 1939 graduate of Pleasant Hill High School and an Army veteran of WW II, taking part in the invasion of Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944 and was the recipient of the "Bronze Star" award. He was a former member of Pleasant Hill American Legion Post #1048. Charles was a long time employee of Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company in Pleasant Hill, retiring after 38 years of service. He had also owned and operated a construction company in Pleasant Hill for more than 40 years. He was a member of the Nebo Christian Church. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Jean Hubbard of Pleasant Hill, a son, Randy (wife Nancy) Hubbard of Columbia, Mo. and two grandsons, Tyson Hubbard of Columbia and Trenton Hubbard of Grenada, West Indies. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Raymond and Joe Hubbard and by three sisters, Mildred Grimsley, Lucille Wombles and Velda Wombles. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 3 p.m. at the Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill conducted by Bro. Don Hannel and Myrl Shireman. The family will meet with friends from 1 - 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial, with military honors, will be held at a later date in the Nebo Cemetery. Graveside military rites for Charles Hubbard, Jr. 87, of Pleasant Hill, will be held Friday, July 10 at 2 p.m. at the Nebo Cemtery conducted by the Pleasant Hill American Legion Post 1048. Mr. Hubbard died Feb. 24, 2009 and cremation rites were accorded at that time. DOROTHY R. HUBBARD , 78, of East Peoria and formerly of Quincy, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at her home. She was born Feb. 1, 1930 in Nebo to Charles W. and Lula McCann Hubbard Sr. They preceded her in death as did her sister, Elizabeth Hirst. Surviving are one daughter, Kim M. (Jeff) Bruce of East Peoria; and one grandson, Benjamin J. Bruce of East Peoria; one brother, Charles Wesley (Katie) Hubbard Jr. of Pleasant Hill; one brother-in-law, Irvin Hirst of Mission, Texas; 27 cousins; nine nieces and nephews; 16 great-nieces and nephews; and seven great-great-nieces and nephews. Dorothy worked at as a Nurse at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., Veterans Administration Hospital in Bronx, N.Y., Blessing Hospital and the Quincy Medical Group, both in Quincy, and American Red Cross and Beverly Home Care, both in Peoria. She also worked in the Fine Jewelry Department at Bergners in Sheridan Village. She enjoyed reading, travel, attending theater and spending time with her family. Funeral services for Dorothy were at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2 at Deiters Funeral Home in East Peoria. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at the funeral home. Burial was in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria

ELIZABETH (WINANS) HUBBARD widow of the late William Hubbard, passed away at the home of her sister, Mrs. Mary Dow, on West Jefferson Street, Wednesday evening, after a short illness from bronchial trouble, with which she had long been troubled, but which had but lately become alarming. Mrs. Hubbard had been living in her own home on West Perry street, up until a few weeks ago, when she went to the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. S. Shinn, for a few days. A little daughter in the Shinn family was taken down with scarlet s fever and rather than be quarantined, Mrs. Hubbard went over to her sister's home to make a little visit until the quarantine should be lifted, and it was there her condition became acute. Her daughter, Mrs. Dow, and, a nurse were constantly at her bedside until the end came. Funeral services were held from the Dow home on Saturday afternoon at half past four o'clock, Rev. Robert Atchison, of St. Stephens Episcopal church officiating. Mrs. Hubbard was a lifelong member and an active worker in the Congregational church but no minister of her church was near enough to be had at this time. Interment was made in the family lot in the West cemetery. Pallbearers were: George C. Weaver, Clark Armentrout, Fred Hicks, Harry Miller, E. D. Glandon, and Earl Grigsby. Elizabeth Madaline Winans was a born June 3, 1843, at Elizabeth, New Jersey, and came to Illinois with her parents in the spring of 1846, where they resided on a farm south of Pittsfield ten years, then moved to Pitts­field in the fall of 1856. She was married May 26, 1868 to Wm. A. Hubbard. In 1870 they moved to the state of Washington and remained there for six years when they returned to Pittsfield in 1876. Her husband died March 23, 1895. Pittsfield has been her home with the exception of the six years spent in Washington and twelve years spent in Springfield with her son, Guy. She passed away July 3rd, 1919, at 7:30 p. m. She is survived by two children, Mrs. Eva Shinn of this city and Guy W. Hubbard of Springfield, and three grandchildren. Her aged brother, Mr. Con Winans and one sister Mrs. Mary Dow, with whom she spent her last days, also survive her. Mrs. Hubbard was a faithful working member of the Congregational church in this city. She was interested in all the benevolences and missionary activities of that church and for many years was a teacher in the Sunday school. She was a devoted a: Christian, a loving mother and a faithful friend, and her memory will w always be precious to those who knew her.

FRANCES HUBBARD , 93, of Columbia, Mo. and formerly of Pleasant Hill, died Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at The Neighborhood, an Assisted Living Center associated with the Sinclair School of Nursing at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Jean was born Feb, 11, 1918, a daughter of Frank and Myrtle Pearson Yocum. She attended Nebo Elementary School and was a graduate of Nebo High School. Jean was a beautician by trade for over sixty years. She married Charles Hubbard Oct. 26, 1940 in Bowling Green, Mo. and he died Feb. 24, 2009. Survivors include a son, Randy (wife Nancy) Hubbard of Columbia, and two grandsons, Tyson Hubbard of Modesto, Calif. and Trenton Hubbard of Brooklyn, N.Y., three nieces, Kathleen Kindle of Pittsfield, Dorothy Wombles of rural Rockport and Vicki Oberlink of Alton. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters, Blanche Kindle and June Joiner. Cremation rites are being accorded. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 27, at 2 p.m. at the Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill. Memorials may be made to the University of Missouri Orthopedic Institute, Trauma Department, c/o Dr. Brett Crist, 1100 Virginia Avenue, Columbia, MO, 65212. Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill is handling the arrangements.

IRENE (WILLARD) HUBBARD , 92, of Pittsfield, died Saturday, May 27, 2006 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. Born near Nebo, IL., September 23, 1913, a daughter of Charles W. and Lola Cunningham Willard. She married Roy Hubbard November 30, 1935 in Jacksonville, IL and he preceded her on Sept. 10, 1995. She was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Pittsfield and was a sales representative for Stanley Home Products for many years and loved to collect antiques. Survivors: a son Phillip Hubbard of Leonard, CT. and a daughter Janet Leahr of Rockford, IL and two grandchildren. She was preceded by her husband Roy, two sisters Ila Couch and Edith Cosgrove Graham and six brothers, Jess, Harold, Wayne, Leo, Everett and Travis Willard. She was the last of her generation. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Rev. Bruce Willard officiating. Burial will be at the Pittsfield West Cemetery. Friends may call at the Niebur Funeral Home, Pittsfield, IL on Tuesday from 6 till 8 p.m. Memorials are to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

JOHN HUBBARD , 69, of Barry, a founder and former administrator of the Barry Community Care Center, died Satur­day (Sept. 11, 1993) in his home. Born Oct. 14, 1923, in Mitch­ell, S.D., Mr. Hubbard was a son of E.E. and Ruth Tribble Hubbard. He married Mary M. Williams Oct. 14, 1943, in Con­cord. She survives. A radio gunner during World War II, he later worked for Midwest Order Buyer before opening a private trucking business. After buying the Barry Nursing Home in 1958, he later was administrator of the McLean County Nursing Home for seven years. He returned to Barry in 1970, farming until he helped build the Barry Care Center in 1974. He was admin­istrator until 1980. He also owned and operated hog farms in Illinois and Missouri. A member of First Christian Church in Barry, he was a for­mer board chairman and elder. He was a past member of the board at First National Bank of Barry and had been a real estate broker and auctioneer. Also surviving are three sons, John and Mark, both of Barry, and Michael of Lexing­ton, KY; a daughter, Janet Moore of Pittsfield; a sister, June Smith of Seattle; 11 grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren. Mr. Hubbard was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Beth, in 1954. Services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in First Christian Church in Barry. Buri­al was in Park Lawn Cemetery. Visitation was held Monday from 6-8 p.m. in the Kirgan Fu­neral Home in Barry. Memorials may be made to the First Chris­tian Church of Barry or the Bar­ry Community Care Center.

LETTIE ALICE (WITTY) HUBBARD was born July 20,1901 and passed from this life at 12:15 a.m. Sept. 12, 1929. At the age of 14, she confessed her faith in Christ as her Lord and Savior, and remained true to her confession until she was called from this to a better and happier heavenly life. She was married to Paul Hubbard, Feb. 5, 1918. To this union were born four children, Hazel, Mary, and Paula, and one who passed away in infancy. Besides her husband and children, she leaves her parents, two sisters, Emma Foreman of Aurora, Neb. and Maude Smith of Pleasant Hill; one brother, Ray Witty of Rockport, IL, her grandfather and many other relatives and friends.

RUTH J. (JACKSON) HUBBARD , 82, of Pittsfield died Friday morning, July 10, 1992, at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield. Born Jan. 15, 1910, in Nebo, she was a daughter of James and Thursa Applegate Jackson. She married Lawrence Hubbard on Nov. 1, 1930, in Virginia. She is survived by her husband; three sisters, Blanche Jackson of Pittsfield, Margaret Gates of Barry and Mary Dale Houseman of Roxa­na; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Mrs. Hubbard was a teacher for 39 years in Pike County. She was of the Nazarene faith. Funeral services were at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Lummis-Bennett Fu­neral Home in Pittsfield with burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Pittsfield. Memorials may be made to the Naz­arene Church or Illini Community Hospital.

SARAH ANN (WIKE) HUBBARD ,daughter of William and Hannah (Heagy) Wike, was born in Newville, Cumberland county, Pa., Feb. 27, 1841, and settled in Barry township at what is known as Shields mill. She grew to womanhood and spent her life in this vicinity. Her marriage to W. H. Hubbard took place April 18, 1867. To them were born five children--Mrs. Hattie Gay, of Rockport, Ill.; Wm. W. of New Canton, Ill.; Mrs. Mary Penny and Miss Lottie at home. A daughter, Maggie, died in infancy. Mr. Hubbard died December 17, 1905, after which she moved to Barry about 13 years ago. She untied with the Baptist church in 1900. She was a home-loving woman and for several years has not even been up town on the streets of Barry. She has been in poor health for some time and quietly fell asleep Sunday evening, Nov 17, 1918, at 5:00 p.m.; aged 77 years, 8 months and 20 days. She was the oldest of a family of six children and was left without a father's care when 12 years of age. Her brothers, George and John H. Wike, and also a sister, Mrs. Mary Crane, have preceded her in death. Besides her children she leaves five grandchildren, who will mourn her death. Thus passes another good woman who has long dwelt among us and been a blessing to many. Mr. and Mrs. Hubbard were members of Pike chapter No. 20, O.E.S. of Barry. Funeral services in her memory were held from the family home Tuesday, Nov. 19, 1918, at 2:30 p.m. in charge of Reb. W. M. Halley. The services were in accord with her wishes--very brief and simple in character. Burial was made in Park Lawn cemetery.

HAZEL (MURPHY) HUFF , of Barry and Mr. Glen Murphy of Kinderhook have received word of the death of their sister, Mrs. Homer Huff, of Forest Park, Ill. Mrs. Huff passed away in her home Monday morning, January 12. She was the former Hazel Murphy, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lon Murphy of Barry. She moved from Barry many years ago. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time.

VIRGIL HUFFMAN - Rev. Mr. Hurless was called to Atlas Tuesday to conduct the funeral services of the five year old son of Mrs. Maria Huffman. The little one was ill only a few days of lung fever. The mother has the heartfelt sympathy of this community, where she is well known and highly respected. The funeral service took place at the residence of the child's grandparent's, where the mother resides. The remains were tenderly laid in the Ball's Bluff Cemetery beside those of his father, who has been dead nearly five years.

GRACE HUGHES , 63, of Barry, formerly of Dallas City, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. She was born March 22, 1947, to Thomas B. Hughes, Sr. and Grace A. (Campbell) Hughes. Mother survives in Barry. She was never married. She is survived by one brother, Thomas Hughes, Jr., of Barry; and one sister, Barbara Carpenter (husband Don) of Canton. She is also survived by one aunt, Edna Campbell of Barry as well as numerous cousins. Gracie was a member of the Barry United Methodist Church and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Phi Kappa Phi. She taught elementary school for more than 35 years for the Dallas City School District. She loved to work in her flower garden as well as sew, crochet and read. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery, Barry

JAMES M. HUME , a Camden Farmer, died Saturday James M Hume a native of Brown Co, died Saturday at the home of his niece, Mrs Irvin Booth in Camden, in his sixty-fourth year. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Frank J Rider were held Monday at 11:00 AM at the Camden Methodist church. Burial was in the Hume cemetery in Pike County. James M Hume, son of John and Mary Hume, was born on a farm near Versailles, April 1, 1882, and departed this life February 16, 1946 at the home of his niece, Mrs Irvin Booth in Camden, aged 63 years, 10 months, and 15 days.

SAMUEL HUMES , a highly respected citizen of Freeport and the well known proprietor of the Pacific restaurant, passed away this morning at 10 o'clock at his home on Stephenson street. He had been ailing for the past three months with heart and liver trouble, and for the past three weeks had been confined to his bed. Mr. Humes was born in Worster, Ohio, July 27, 1818. In the year 1842 he came west and settled in Griggsville, Ill. Some time afterwards he moved to Jacksonville, Ill., and engaged in business. In 1870 at Jacksonville he purchased a hotel and conducted the same for some time. Ten years ago he came to Freeport to reside, and has been here since. He was engaged in restaurant business here, being owner of the "Pacific Restaurant." He was united in marriage to Miss Anna Hammond in Salem, Ohio, in 1842. She survives him. At one time he was a prominent Odd Fellow, having held various offices with that organization. In addition to his wife he leaves three children--Miss S. Humes of Marquette, Mich., Mrs. I. J. Wolf of Savaona, Ill., and Mrs. Mary Newman of Freeport. The funeral will be held from the residence tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 o'clock.

ROBERT HUSBAND , Once more has the Silent Reaper visited our community and removed from among us a faithful husband, loving father, steadfast friend and quiet, unassuming, law-abiding citizen. Robert Husband, one of the few men of this community of whom we have never heard an unkind word, died at 2:30 Sunday morning, Oct 20, 1902, after a lingering illness of hepatic cirrhosis which confined him to his bed about six months preceding his death. The funeral occurred Tuesday, Rev. Thos. Bigger of Osceola, an old acquaintance and friend of the deceased, assisted by Rev. Keast of St. Croix Falls and Presiding Elder Haight, officiated The funeral was largely attended. Deceased was born in Flint township, Pike Co., Ill., April 11, 1843, and at the time of his demise was aged 59 years, 6 months and 15 days. His parents, Jonathan H. Husband and Mary Ann Wade Husband, were born in England, married in Pennsylvania and moved to Illinois about 1838 In those days schools were not as numerous nor as advanced as they now are and Robert received a limited education. On May 6, 1864 he enlisted as corporal in company F. 137th regiment Ill. Vol. , to serve one hundred days and was honorably discharged on Sept 24, 1864. Shortly afterward he came to Wisconsin. In 1870 he united with the Bethel, Ill. , M. E church, James Dimmitt, pastor, and continued a consistent member until his death. In 1871 he was married to Esley Grable. The union was an exceedingly happy one and was blessed with five children, two sons and three daughters. His wife, one daughter, Mrs Ira H. Park and two sons, Edward E. and Fred J. survive him as do also two brothers, H. H. and George and three sisters Mrs. Ellen Lightle, and Miss Eliza Husband of Griggsville,, Ill_ and Mrs. I S. Freeman of this place Another sister, Jane Husband, since deceased, taught the first school in Balsam Lake in 1865-The Ledger, Balsam Lake, Wis., Oct. 30.
