GEORGE M. HENDRICKS
, of Quincy, for many years one of Barry's best known residents, died very suddenly about 9:30 o'clock Tuesday night at the home of his sister, Mrs. Martha Reeder in El Dara. Mr. Hendricks, a carpenter by trade, had been in El Dara for several weeks working on a house that his niece, Mrs. Florence Harlow, daughter of Mrs. Reeder, had recently purchased. He had worked all day Tuesday and after supper wrote his wife a letter, as was his evening custom when he was away from home, and after sealing his letter visited with his sister until he made known his intention of retiring. Mr. Hendricks went out of doors about 9:30 o'clock and was still gone when Mrs. Harlow, who went out earlier in the evening; returned near 10:00 o'clock. Mrs. Reeder was alarmed about her bother's absence and her daughter went out to look for him and not finding him anywhere about the yard called for help and Walter Strubinger, a near neighbor, came to their assistance. After a brief search he found Mr. Hendricks face downward in a concrete lined pit which he had just completed. It is evident that Mr. Hendricks was stricken by a heart attack to which he was subjected, and in the dark probably became confused and staggered headlong into the open pit. The body was removed to the Roy H. Dieterle undertaking parlors in this city, but as we go to press this morning no arrangements for the funeral have been made. Mr. Hendricks is survived by his wife and nine daughters, namely: Mrs. Mariam Harris, El Dara; Mrs. Anna Tolley, Quincy; Mrs. Marion Stearns, Barry; Mrs. Hazel Walker, Saverton, Mo.; Mrs. Ruth Clark, Quincy; Mrs. Alice Johnson, Saverton, Mo.; Mrs. Wilma Croxville, Pittsfield; Mrs. Jeanette Dover, Pittsfield, and Miss Naomi Hendricks, at home.
