E'en for the dead I will not bind, My soul to grief;
Death cannot long divide, For it is not as though the rose
That climbed my garden wall, Had blossomed on the other side.
Death doth hide but not divide; Thou art but on Christ's other side!
Thou art with Christ and Christ with me; In Christ united still are we.

JULIA ALICE (BROWN) NEWMAN daughter of H. R. and E. J. Brown, was born in Griggsville, Ill., Nov. 8, 1856, and died in Griggsville, Sept. 12, 1896. She was married to Charles B. Newman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Newman, Sept. 20, 1876. Of this union six children were born, three sons and three daughters. There are now left to mourn her loss a kind, loving husband, three sons and two daughters; one daughter, a babe one year old, having preceded her to that land where there is no pain, no sin, no sorrow. She united with the Baptist church in Griggsville in the year 1874 under the ministration of the Rev. Stetson, being one of the first received into membership of the new church dedicated that year. After years of intense suffering she succumbed to the fatal hand of disease, all of which she bore with Christian fortitude, and being told that the end was drawing near, she said: "My only regrets are leaving my husband and children." And as she bade them a last farewell it left an impression upon the minds of those who witnessed it that will never be erased. The blow falls heavy on the aged parents, to whom she was a great comfort in their declining years, and as she greeted them with a smile of recognition they could but turn sadly away, feeling that all was well and that 0 grave where now is thy victory. Alice was a woman of strong character and convictions, full of life and energy far beyond her strength. Her whole ambition was the advancement of her husband and children. She remembered a kindness, never forgot a friend, ready to help the sick and needy and aid the distressed. The floral offerings were many and beautiful, and after a very impressive service at the Baptist church by the Rev. T. C. Coffey of Pittsfield, the remains of Allie were tenderly laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery at Griggsville. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavement. May the hand of Him who shall wipe away all tears from all eyes wipe their cheeks with its softest tenderness.
