GARY L. OBERDOHLHOFF , 65, of Nebo , IL . died Monday, November 30, 2009, at Blessing Hospital , Quincy , IL . He was born in Quincy , IL . on November 19, 1944, to Merle and Agnes Brocksick Gooding. He married Nancy Jane England on October 27, 1967, and she preceded him in death on June 1, 2006. He was a carpenter, roofer, laborer at Excel, and worked as a laborer for the railroad. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed fishing, camping, watching the Miami Dolphin games, playing cards, and playing board games. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Survivors: a son, Gary Oberdahlhoff, Jr. of Nebo, IL, a daughter, Jane (Christopher) Milner, of Nebo, IL, two brothers, Kenneth A. Snellbacher of Amarillo, TX., and Merle Gooding of Quincy, IL., a sister, Connie Gooding, of Quincy, IL, and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Jane Oberdahlhoff, his parents, and one sister, Bonnie Sparks. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at the West Cemetery , Pittsfield , IL . with Rev. Quentin Beard officiating. Burial will be at the West Cemetery , Pittsfield , IL .

FLORINE M. ODLE , 91, a resident of Heritage Assisted Living in Yukon, Okla. died Tuesday March 15, 2011. She was born in Pittsfield, June 27, 1919 to Homer and Sarah Shonhart. Florine graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1937. She married Arthur Irvin Odle Sept. 6, 1939 in Palmyra, Mo. Florine was a District Licensed Deaconess in the Church of the Nazarene for 30 years. She served on a Yukon Precinct Election Board as an election clerk for 20 years. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her twin sister, Florence Otto, of Bloomington, and her four children: Carl Odle and wife Sharon of Yukon, Okla., Jeanette Skalla and husband Ed of Del City, Okla., Diane Powell and husband Larry of East Moline, Sandra Stevens and husband Alvest of Muscogee, Okla; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years and 2 grandsons. Visitation was Thursday March 17 at the Smith & Turner Mortuary in Yukon, Okla.. The funeral service was held at Western Oaks Church of the Nazarene Friday, March 18 with a graveside service at Resurrection Cemetery on Northwest Expressway following the service.

LILY (VITT) O'CONNELL , 80, of Pittsfield, IL passed away January 24, 2010 at the Liberty Village in Pittsfield . Lily was born February 10, 1929 in Peru, Indiana, a daughter to Thomas and Grace McGinnis Vitt. She married Dr. Frank J. O’Connell on June 14, 1952 in St. Louis , MO and he preceded her in death October of 2009. Lily assisted her husband in his veterinary practice in Pittsfield through out the years. Before their marriage, Lily worked in the banking field. Lily attended the Fontbonne College in St. Louis , MO studying biology & drama and earned a B.A. degree. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Alter Society and was a catechism teacher at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pittsfield. She enjoyed playing bridge in the women and couples clubs, and enjoyed socializing in various women’s clubs and the Pike County Dance Club. She was also a member of the Book Club at the Community Center and was a member of the Illinois State Veterinary Association Women’s Auxiliary. Lily was a past member of the PTA, a John Wood Community College Literary volunteer, Brownie Troop leader, East School volunteer. Lily was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and “If you couldn’t get along with Lily, you couldn’t get along with anyone.” She is survived by her daughter, Lily (Brian) Puester of Canton , MO and sons, Frank O’Connell of Springfield and Kevin O’Connell. Four grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Frank J. O’Connell, an infant daughter Sarah Louise at birth, daughter, Rosalie in 1979, two brothers and four sisters. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2010, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pittsfield, Illinois, with Father Rodney Schwartz, Celebrant. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the services h Father Rodney Schwartz celebrant. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Pittsfield .

LLOYD DEWEY OLER - Funeral of Loyd Oler held at New Canton Thursday: Funeral Services for Loyd Oler, well known New Canton man, were held at Union Church at 2:30p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Gutherie of Pleasant Hill in charge. Mr. Oler was killed in an automobile accident which occurred several miles from Hillsboro, Ill., Monday night June 5, at about 5 o'clock. He was returning to Hillsboro after working on a drag line on a government project and was with another man, an oiler for the government. At a cross road Oler's car collided with a truck. Mr. Oler and the other man were taken from his burning car and rushed to the hospital. Mr. Oler died within a short time. His car completely burned. Lloyd Dewey Oler was born in Lone Oak, Texas Sept. 16, 1898, the son of Emmett and Naomi Oler. He was married to Miss Olive Johnson of New Canton Oct. 18, 1921 in East St. Louis. Besides his wife and her mother Mrs. Nora Johnson, with whom he lived while in New Canton, he leaves his mother, four sisters, Mrs. Era Cunningham of Dallas, Texas, Mrs. Vera McKinney, Mrs. Ethel Porter, and Miss Emma Oler of Harlington, Texas; a half sister, Mildred Taylor of Dallas and a half brother Clyde Weinbrenner, in service overseas. His father and sister preceded him in death. Mr. Oler came to New Canton in 1921 and since made his home here. He worked for the Heidloff Elevator more than seven years."

CLARENCE GALE OLIVER , 89, of Pittsfield passed away Friday, January 15, 2010 at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield. He was born April 21, 1920 in Mattoon , IL a son of Edward and Viola True Oliver. He married Imogene Reed on August 26, 1944 in the home of her grandparents in Calhoun County . They celebrated sixty five years of marriage in August of 2009. Gale was an auto mechanic and has worked at Green Chevrolet in Jacksonville, Zimmerman Brothers and Barton Oldsmobile in Pittsfield, International Harvester, and Harrison Implement. In earlier year’s he was a partner with Lavon Hobbs at Oliver & Hobbs Plymouth and retired from King Mill in Pittsfield . He was a WWII Army veteran serving in the 27th Combat Regiment. Gail attended the Calvary Baptist Church, was a member of the Pittsfield Fire Department for forty-three years, member of the Pittsfield American Legion Post #152, and the Pittsfield Police Association. He enjoyed woodworking, especially furniture, crafts, making clocks, shelves, painting and drawing. His wife, Imogene, and one son, Dennis (Lori) Oliver of Quincy, one grandson Kory Oliver and four step grandchildren, Johnny, Kyle, Nick and Rachel Bocke, survive him. One sister, Opal Schlemmer of Pittsfield , one niece, Julie Schwarz of Raytown , Mo , one great niece and one great nephew also survive. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald, two sisters, Eleanor and Genevieve and step grandson Mark Bocke. Services will be held on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Rev. Bill Herald officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, January 19 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Pittsfield West Cemetery with military rites being accorded by the Pittsfield American Legion Post #152. Family requests that memorials be made to the Calvary Baptist Church , Pittsfield Fire Department or the Pittsfield West Cemetery .

EMMA (PREDMORE) OREBAUGH , was born in New Jersey, February 17, 1822, and departed this life April 10, 1903. At an early age she moved with her parents to Ohio, in which state she was married December 29, 1844, to Jacob Orebaugh. This union was blessed with four sons and three daughters, of whom two sons--James H. and Joseph E.--besides fourteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren are left to mourn the loss of a true mother and helper. Mr. and Mrs. Orebaugh came with their family to Pike county, Illinois, in 1856, where they have since resided. Mr. Orebaugh preceded her to the better world in 1899. Mrs. Orebaugh has been in failing health for several years, and during the last few months was sick almost constantly; but she always born her suffering with prudence....She united with the German Baptist church over thirty-five years ago, and remained a consistent member and an earnest worker for the cause of the Master until the time of her death....The funeral was conducted at the home Easter Sunday, April 12, by Rev. W.R. Lierle, after which the remains were laid to rest in Park Lawn cemetery...

MARY MARIE OWENS - Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Marie Owens, 93, of Rockport, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2011 at the Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana, Mo. The Rev. Gene Stewart officiated. Visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23 at the funeral home. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery in Clarksville, Mo. Mrs. Owens died at her home Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011. She was born Aug. 28, 1918, in Louisiana, to Fred and Lucille Tilloson Beckner. She married Joseph Taylor Owens, Dec. 20, 1952 at the First Baptist Church in Louisiana, and he preceded her in death Dec. 19, 1993. Mary is survived by one son, Dennis Alan Owens of New Canton; one sister, Frances Schriver of Vandalia, Mo.; and a brother, Gene Beckner of Allons, Tenn. She was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Beckner and a sister, Martha Meadows. Mary had attended school in the Calumet area close to Clarksville, Mo. She had been employed as a Seamstress for Wells-Lamont Glove Factory in Louisiana for a number of years. Later working as a Waitress at the Pleasant Hill Dairy Dip and Twin Pike Cafe. She had also been employed as a clerk at Zeke's Discount Store at Pike Station. She was a member of the Clarksville Baptist Church. Pallbearers were, J. E. Woods, Art Bradley, Steve Wombles, Dennis Collard, Ronnie Henry and Paul Kinscherf. PAUL GENE OWENS , age 77, of Pittsfield, Il. died Wednesday afternoon (June 2, 2010) at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Il. He was born March 11, 1933 in Milton, Il. son of the late Clay and Virginia Johnson Owens. He married Jean Daniel on June 29, 1974 in Detroit, Il. and she survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Jeana Sealock and husband Russ of Detroit, Il.three grandchildren, Ashley Ratliff and husband Jaron of Farmington, Missouri, Courtney Sealock and Nathan Sealock both of Detroit, Il.; and one great-granddaughter, McKayla Ratliff of Farmington, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Eddie Owens. Mr. Owens was a 1951 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He attended Bradley University and later, enlisted in the Army/Air Force and served for two years. Following his enlistment he attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Il. Gene worked at the family grocery store in his early years and later worked for Ron Bradburn as an electrician, DeWolf Ford, and K-Mar Construction and in later years at Two Rivers Marina where he worked as service manager. He loved working on cars and tinkering in his shed. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday (June 5, 2010) at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Il. Burial will be in Pittsfield West Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home

VERA (HOOS) OWENS , 71, of Baylis Route 2, died Mon­day night (April 8, 1996) in Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield. Born Dec. 26, 1924, near Pitts­field, Mrs. Owens was a daughter of Claud W. and Alice Dean Hoos. She married Donald O. Owens Nov. 5, 1942, in Palmyra, Mo. He survives. Mrs. Owens attended schools in Pittsfield, Barry and Pleasant Hill. She attended Beverly Meth­odist Church and enjoyed flowers, gardening, fishing and crocheting. Survivors include three sons, Thomas Owens of Fort Smith, Ark., and Donald W. and James Owens, both of rural Baylis; a daughter, Jeannette Owens of Hull; 16 gandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Owens was preceded in death by a sister, Eva Rowley; and two grandchildren, Ronnie and Robert McClain. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday in the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Burial will be in Mound Prairie Cemetery at Beverly. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Beverly Methodist Church.
