ASHLYNN JEAN PARKHILL
, 2 day old daughter of Brennan &Jeanna (Lord) Parkhill, died at 1:35 a.m. Mon., May 4, 2009, in the St. Louis Children's Hospital. Ashlynn was born at 8:30 a.m. on May 2, 2009 in Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
Survivors include, her parents, Brennan and Jeanna Parkhill of Barry; a sister, Whitney D. Parkhill of Barry; maternal grandparents, Joe & Pamm Lord of Plainville; paternal grandparents, Wes & Barb Parkhill of Barry; great-grandmother, Violet Ratajzik of Plainville; aunts, uncles and cousins.
Private family graveside services were held Thurs. morning at Akers Chapel Cemetery with Rev. Wally Carlson officiating. There was no visitation, but a gathering of friends and family for a luncheon and fellowship was held at Melrose Chapel United Methodist Church at 1.
BARBARA K. (COLLINS) PATTON
, 58, of Pittsfield , passed away Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the Barry Community Care Center in Barry , IL . Barbara was born June 9, 1951, a daughter to Lyndle and Martha Ellen Kritright Collins. She married Jerry Sharp and later married Jack Patton. Barbara formerly worked at the Sandy ’s restaurant, Hope School in Springfield , Pittsfield Moose Lodge, Subway in Pittsfield , operated Pike Station motel and was a representative for Avon .
She attended Open Bible Church , and enjoyed singing country music and karaoke. She wrote country music and auditioned for music producer, Billy Walker in Nashville , TN. She truly loved all her family and friends.
Three brothers survive her, Johnnie Bill (Pat) Collins of Pittsfield, Rodney (Phoebe) Collins of Pleasant Hill and Leroy Collins of Griggsville. Eleven sisters survive, Sandy Reardon of Alsey, Evelyn (David) Hall of Barry, Tonna (Ron) Long , Betty Foster, Janie Shipman, Dorothy Teany, Vella (Harold) Ruble, Martha (Ken) Hill all of Pittsfield, Janet Stroud of Vidor, TX, Leona Gratton of Pleasant Hill, Janet (Ron) Sydney of Hannibal, MO and Ruth Ann Evans of Live Oak, FL. along with several nieces and nephews.
Her parents, Lyndle and Martha Collins and a brother, Michael Lyndle Collins, preceded Barbara in death. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Father Rodney Schwartz officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Pittsfield . Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m, Tuesday evening, May 4, 2010 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield .
EMMA ARVEDA (SMITH) PATTON
, 94, of Pittsfield , IL passed away Thursday, May 6, 2010 in Tucson , AZ after suffering a stroke on April 15, 2010. Emma had been residing with her daughter, Georgia Sparks of San Manuel , AZ and her son and daughter-in law, Robert “Ernie” and Glenda Patton of Cape Coral , FL.
Emma was born in Pearl , IL on November 8, 1915 a daughter to Ernest and Verna Kessinger Smith. She married George Patton on March 16, 1933 in Pittsfield , IL and had celebrated 71 years of marriage before his death on December 17, 2004.
She was a member of the Church of Christ of Pittsfield and in her earlier year’s Emma cooked at the Couch Nursing Home in Pittsfield . She was a wonderful cook and made delicious fried chicken, homemade pies and “real coffee”, a favorite of sister and brother-in-law, Leona and Don Boren. She enjoyed cooking, flowers and devoted her life to her husband, George before his death.
Her daughter, Georgia Sparks of San Manuel, AZ and son, Robert “Ernie” and wife Glenda Patton, of Cape Coral, FL, survives Emma along with three grandchildren, Danielle Leeseberg and husband Tim of Brandon FL, Cheryl and husband Allan Reid of San Manuel, AZ, and Matthew and wife Jeanette Patton of Tampa, FL. Seven great grandchildren survive Collin and Cory Reid, Matthew Ernest, Emily and Tristen Patton, Timothy and Robert Patton Leeseburg and two great-great granddaughters, Abigail Georgia Lynn and Clara Reid also survive. Beloved baby sister and special brother-in-law Leona and Don Boren of Pittsfield, sister-in-law, Mary Jean Smith of Kampsville, and granddaughter-in-law, Kathy Patton of Katy, TX also survives along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Emma was also preceded in death by an infant son, Jackie Lavern, a grandson, Robert E. Patton Jr., son-in-law, Glenn Sparks along with siblings, Earl R. Smith, Paul Smith, George E. Smith, Lelia Wedding, and Ethel Shanks.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Bob Hammitt officiating. Interment will be in the Hess Cemetery near Pearl , IL . Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday evening, May 10, 2010 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield . A lunch for family and friends will be held at the Pittsfield Community Center after the services.
Memorials are suggested to the Hess Cemetery.
MARY ELIZABETH (HUNTLEY) PAYNE
, 96, of Albuquerque, N.M., formerly of Pittsfield died Wednesday, May 20, 2009 in Albuquerque.
She was born Jan. 24, 1913, in New Canton to Harlow and Oma Huntley. She married Donald Payne June 30, 1934, and he proceeded her in death Dec. 31, 1972.
Elizabeth was a former member of the Rockport Christian Church. She enjoyed cross-stitching and needlework in her spare time. Elizabeth will be remembered for her kindness and great sense of humor.
She is survived by her granddaughters, Jackie Keenan and her husband, Kelly, and Vickie Gutierrez and her husband, David, all of Albuquerqueand Bobbi Whitlock and her husband, Raymond, of Danville; grandson, Jim Gerard and his wife, Joyce, of Houston, Texas; great-granddaughters, Jessica Keenan and Mary Gutierrez both of Albuquerque; great-grandson, Michael Keenan and his wife, Janelle, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Luke Keenan and his wife, Sarah, of Albuquerque, and Bobby Gutierrez and Brandon Gutierrez both of Albuquerque; and great-great-granddaughter, Savanna Gutierrez of Albuquerque. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her children, Joyce, Donnie and Donna, as well as two brothers.
Graveside services were held at the Samuel-Taylor Cemetery, Rockport, Saturday, May 23, at 2 p.m.
DARRELL PEARSON
, 79, of Auburn, formerly of Hull, died Friday Morning (June 16, 1995) in his home. Born Sept. 2. 1915, in Mozier, he was a son of Leonard and Bessie Mae Gresham Pearson. He married Kathleen Wolfmeyer Feb. 26, 1938, in La Grange, Mo. She survives.
Mr. Pearson was a 1933 graduate of Nebo High School and attended Gem City Business College. He was employed by Burlington Northern Railroad for eight years. He later farmed in Pleasant Hill and worked for Panhandle Eastern in Pleasant Hill and the Bureau of Mines in Louisiana, Mo. He later farmed in Barry and was employed by the Soil Conservation Service for 21 years before retiring in 1973. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn and a member of the Pike County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. James (Sharon) Church of Fayetteville, N.C., Mrs. Roger (Linda) Eckart of Rockford, and Mrs. Burt (Ann) Hart of Auburn; a son, Dr. Stephen Pearson of Alice, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Pearson was preceded in death by two brothers, Vasco and Harry Pearson. Services will be conducted at 2 today in St Paul Lutheran Church in Pittsfield by the Rev. Richard Harre and the Rev. David Hintz. Burial will be in Pittsfield West Cemetery.
Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service Sunday in the church. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or St. Paul Lutheran Church. The Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield is handling arrangements.
KATHLEEN MARGUERETTE PEARSON
, 91, a resident of Alpine Fireside Health Center, Rockford, and formerly of Auburn and Pittsfield, died Aug. 15, 2009, at Alpine Fireside Health Center.
Mrs. Pearson was born Feb. 25, 19l8 in LaGrange, Mo., a daughter of George and Margaret Tiemann Wolfmeyer. She married Darrell Pearson Feb. 26, 1938 in St. Peter's Lutheran Church Parsonage in LaGrange. They were married 57 years until his death June 16, 1995.
Mrs. Pearson was the daughter of a carpenter and homemaker. She was a homemaker and lived most of her married life on the farm. She enjoyed gardening and flowers, and loved to cook for her family and others. She was a charter member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Pittsfield, and most recently of Trinity Lutheran Church in Auburn. She was always an active member in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
Kathleen is survived by three daughters, Mrs. James (Sharon) Church of Kernersville, N. C., Mrs. Roger (Linda) Eckart of Machesney Park and Ann Hart of Pittsfield; one son, Dr. Stephen Pearson and wife Maria of Alice, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Pearson also was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Donald and Harold; a sister, Irene Tenk; and a grandson, Matthew Hirstein.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pittsfield. Burial will be in the Pittsfield West Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield. HELEN L. (THOMAS) PELICAN
, 86, of Bany died Monday, April 12, 2010, in Blessing Hospital, Quincy.
She was born Feb. 25, 1924, in Cincinnati Township, Pike County, to Harry and Estella (Curly) Thomas. They preceded her in death.
She married Delbert Pelican Nov. 13, 1943, in Palmyra, Mo He preceded her in death Sept. 13, 2006.
She is survived by one daughter, Joy Wyatt, husband Leon, of Barry; two grandchildren, Brent Wyatt, with Laurie, of Bany and Kristen Turner, husband Larry, of Barry; two great- grandchildren Paula and Shelby Turner; two step great-grandchildren, Travis McGlauchlen and Alayna McGlauchlen; one step great-great-grandchild, Isaac McGlauchlen; and one sister, Glenna Sutton, of Hannibal She was preceded in death by two daughters, Linda Darlene one in infancy; three brothers, Melvin, Wendell and Eddy Thomas; and one sister, Julia Cleary.
Helen enjoyed cooking and sewing and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 16, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery, Bany. Memorials are suggested to Park Lawn Cemetery or Parkinson's Foundation.
GARY EVERETT PENNOCK
, 54, of Detroit IL passed away, Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Regional Medical Center in Memphis , TN. Gary was born December 17, 1955 in Pittsfield , IL . a son of Everett and Lois Reel Pennock
Gary was a graduate of East Pike High School and attended the Detroit United Methodist Church . He was employed at JBS United, Griggsville , IL as a truck driver and was the owner of Gary Pennock trucking. Gary enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and his four wheeler, was an avid fan of Jeff Gordon on the NASCAR circuit, going to coffee and sitting at the “Liar’s Table”, collecting Bi-Centennial quarters, and greatly loved being with his grandchildren.
His special companion, Lori Thornton of Detroit, and four children, Ryan Smith and his mother Maria Smith of Milton, IL, Michael Lawson of Chambersburg, IL, Heather Robinson of Detroit and Hillary Pennock of Springfield, IL survive along with five grandchildren, Matthew Fowler, Zachary Robinson, Kaitlyn Robinson, Peyton Lawson, and Jaren Lawson.
Four brothers and two sisters survive, Roger (Brenda) Pennock and Jerry (Wanda) Pennock both of Detroit, Jamie (Brandi) Pennock, John (Lisa) Pennock and Reggie (Kim) Pennock all of Pittsfield; Marcia (Kay) Dehart of Pittsfield and Nancy (Dick) Lomelino of Detroit along with stepmother, Bev Littleton of Pittsfield, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents Everett Pennock and Lois Miller and stepfather, Lloyd Miller. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 29, 2010 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Rev. Dave Kelly and Pastor Glenna Pruitt officiating. Interment will be in the Blue River Cemetery near Detroit with a lunch following at the Detroit Town Hall . Visitation will be held Sunday evening, March 28 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
BEA I. (GUTHRIE) PERRINE
- Funeral services for Mrs Bea Perrine, 58, of Jacksonville were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23 at Williamson Funeral Home, Jacksonville, with Rev. William Smith of Hillview and Rev. Robert Ramseyer of Jacksonville officiating. Burial was at Crescent Heights cemetery in Pleasant Hill. Rev. Frank Claybourne, pastor of Calvary Baptist church, Pittsfield, conducted the graveside service.
Mrs Perrine died at 8:20 p.m. Friday, Fob. 20, 1970 at Noris hospital, Jacksonville, after an illness of several weeks.
Born near Nebo May 30, 191i1 she was a daughter of Elza H. and Grace Ford Guthrie. She married Lindsey R. Perrine and they were parents of two children who survive. They are Michael Perrine of Jacksonville and Mrs John (Ruth Ann) Turner of Miami, Fla.
Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Howard Guthrie, White Hall; Mrs Fern Phares, White Hall; Mrs
Ted (Lorraine) Peterson, Joliet; Mrs B. J. (Jane) Dedinas, Green Bay, Wis.; Edsel Guthrie, Pittsfield; Donald Guthrie, Barry, Mrs Floyd (Louise) Syrcle, Miami, Fla. and Mrs Richard (Linda) Lovell, Pittsfield.
Mrs Perrine was employed at Classic Fabrics in Pittsfield at one time. For the past two years she had been working at Vogue Fabrics in Jacksonville. She was a member of the First Baptist church at Jacksonville.
FLORA (GRAY) PIKE
- A telegram received in this city about 4:00 o'clock Monday afternoon by Mrs. Anna Hamilton, carried the news of the death of Mrs. Flora Pike, wife of David Pike in Laddonia, Mo. Mrs. Pike before her marriage was Miss Flora Gray, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Schuyler Gray, formerly prominent citizens of Barry. She was at the time of her death about 85 years of age. After her marriage to Mr. Pike they moved from this city to Vandallia, Mo., where they lived for a number of years, later moving to Laddonia, Mo. Mr. Pike had two little sons by a former marriage and she took care of them as she would her own children. The grown sons now live in Seattle, Washington. For years she was a member of the Baptist church, lending a devout christian life, always taking an active part in the work of the church. She was a sister-in-law by marriage of Mrs. Anna Hamilton, of Barry, who dearly loved her, and the two ladies have kept in touch with one another through all the passing years. The Pike family will be well remembered by many of the older residents. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in Laddonia, Mo., with burial taking place in Vandallia, Mo.
MARCELLA M. PINE
, 85, of Baylis , IL passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at her residence. Marcella was born near Fishhook, IL on January 29, 1925, a daughter to Orie C. and Gladys Marie Riggs Pine. She married Donald C. Johnson in Barry , IL on July 3, 1943 and he preceded her in death on March 21, 2009.
Marcella had worked in earlier years at the Brown Shoe Company in Pittsfield and was a social worker for the State of Illinois Department of Public Aid. She was a member of the Baptist Church of Baylis where she had taught Sunday school. Marcella enjoyed attending worship service at the Sleep Valley Ranch where she and Donald wintered in Mission , TX . She was a member of the Moose Lodge, enjoyed traveling, camping, playing cards, square dancing, and flower gardening.
A close cousin, Chuck Pine of Baylis, two brothers, Gene (Barb) Pine of Quincy, IL and Donald (special friend, Sue Lindsay) Pine of Baylis, survives Marcella along with nephews, Khris (Petria) Pine of Baylis and Rob (Ellen) Pine of Texas, nieces, Kay (Randy) Jennings of Pittsfield, Kim (Steve) Zeiss of Steelville, MO, and Lynn (Robin) Thompson of Wisconsin. Several great nieces and nephews also survive.
Her husband, Donald C. and a niece Carrie Dolbeare preceded Marcella in death. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Rev. Jim Jacques officiating. Interment will be in the Baylis Cemetery . A dinner will be held after the service at the Baylis Baptist Church . Visitation will be held Friday evening, May 21, 2010 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield .
JOE PLACE
- 63 of Pearl , IL passed away Friday, April 2, 2010 at his residence. Born as Herschel Joseph Place on July 01, 1946 in Roodhouse , IL he was a son of William Herschel and Betty Lee Settles Place. He married Valerie Jane Turnbaugh on February 21, 1969 in Mozier , IL and they were married for twenty- two years.
Joe was a heavy equipment operator for Local 965 in Springfield , IL . He was an Army Vietnam veteran and an Army National Guard recruiter after returning from two deployments to Vietnam . He was a graduate of Milton High School class of 1964 and enjoyed fishing, being with friends and family at the river, John Wayne movies, reading western novels and enjoyed his grandchildren and story telling.
Surviving is Joe’s companion and special friend, Winnie Fulmer Scott along with his children, Joe (Dana) Place of Jacksonville, IL, Jason (Jennifer) Place of Nebo, IL and Kelly (Charles) Kuhn of Golden Eagle, IL and seven grandchildren, Dareon, Marisa, Kaitlyn, Josie, Jesse, Jake, and Jack.
Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Allen (Tiffany Ellis, companion) Baldwin of Pittsfield, Danny Baldwin of Florence, IL, Elon (Jackie) Baldwin of Pittsfield, IL, Margaret (John) Raftery of Barry , IL and Nan Magehe of New Canton, IL and brother-in-law Larry Moyer of Barry , IL.
His mother and his stepfather Maurice “Baldy” Baldwin who raised him, sister, Sue Moyer and brother- in- law John Megehe preceded him in death.
A memorial service will will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at the Independent Cornerstone Baptist Church in Milton with Pastor Glenna Pruitt officiating. The Pittsfield American Legion Post #152 will hold military honors at the Independent Cornerstone Baptist Church prior to the service.
Memorials are suggested to the Vietnam Disabled Veterans Association, the Independent Cornerstone Baptist Church or the donor’s choice.
RUSSELL LEE POPE
, 76, of Hull, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Hannibal Regional Hospital in Hannibal.
Graveside services and burial was at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at Grand View Burial Park in. Pastor Terry Burke officiated. Visitation was from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.
Mr. Pope was born Jan. 27, 1933, in Hannibal, Mo. to Russell and Beaulah Saggaster Pope.
He was married to Connie Ralph Oct. 26, 1970 in Hannibal. She survives.
Other survivors include one son, Rusty Pope (Katie) of California; four daughters, Debbie Burke of New London, Mo., Angel Pope (fiancé, James) of Hull, Amy Pope of Hull and Joy Lynn Vavra (Richie) of Hannibal; two sisters, Betty Harris of Hannibal and Shirley Epley (Buck) of Fall Creek; 10 grandchildren, Nicholas Pope, Terry Burke (Michelle), Leroy "Chipper" Burke (Stella), Pvt. Joby Daugherty, Heidi Daugherty, Nicole Pope, Danielle Pope, Heaven Smith, Angel Vavra and Gene Smith; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, five sisters, one brother-in-law and his mother and father-in-law.
Mr. Pope was a carpenter. He loved guitar and harmonica playing and telling stories. Mr. Pope enjoyed tinkering and piddling in the garage. He attended Hull Community Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Family in care of the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Brian Mark Fuqua II, Jason Darr, Jamie Wilson, Joey Wilson, Brian Fuqua, Mike Darr, John Wilson, and Larry Marine. Honorary pallbearers were Mr. Pope's grandsons and nephews.
JAMES RICHARD POWELL
, 73, of White Hall, died Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at his residence.
He was born July 22, 1935, in Walkerville Township, the son of Buck E. and Lily Mae Suttles Powell. He married Mary Alice Rogers April 28, 1954, in White Hall, and she survives.
Also surviving are five sons, James R. (Pansy) Powell Jr. of White Hall, Michael (Connie) Powell of Atlas, Ricky (Tammie) Powell of Woodson, Randy (Deena) Powell of Rochester and Danny (Margaret) Powell of White Hall; two daughters, Mary (Joe) Weinant and Kim (Ronzo) Brannan, both of White Hall. He has 18 grandchildren surviving, Missy Honeycutt of Roodhouse, Lindsey Powell and Nicole Kaiser, both of Murrayville, Jeremiah "Punky" Powell and Michael Powell, both of Pittsfield, Kala Powell of Atlas, Dustin Powell and Jordan Powell, both of Rochester, and Elisa Powell, Danny Joe Powell, Kevin Powell, Brittany Powell, Darci Brannan, Jason Brannan, Logan Weinant, Jacob Weinant, Ricky Winters and Cortney Winters, all of White Hall. Surviving great-grandchildren are Eain Winters, Skylar, Destyne and Dawson Powell, Blane Kaiser and Christopher and Charity Honeycutt. He has one sister, Shirley (Gene) Johns of Atlas. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Sunkleep Powell; and two sisters, Katherine Plackett and Betty Blane.
Mr. Powell served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for the White Hall Township Road Commissioner for more than 17 years. He was a bus driver for North Greene School District for seven years. He owned and operated Powell's Tree Service and operated Jim's Painting in White Hall for 48 years. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in White Hall.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church in White Hall, with burial at White Hall Cemetery. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Airsman-Hires
JOHN W. POWELL
and old soldier who had lived at Birmingham, Schuyler County, Ill, but for the past year or such a matter had been making his home with his son, William, and family in the vicinity of the electric light plant, fell dead on West Washingtonstreet Saturday at about 4 o'clock. He was 86 years of age and in December married a woman a little more than half his years and they were making arrangements the day he died to go to housekeeping.
they had rented rooms of Mrs. Allen who occupies the R.C. Scanland property and at the time he was stricken they had been to the Allen place and were on their way back to the son's home. When opposite the Jake Strauss residence he became ill and shortly thereafter fell dead on the sidewalk. Coroner Coley was summoned and held an inquest at which a verdict in accord with the above facts were rendered.
Being a newcomer to this place, he was but little known here, but it is learned that he was a member of the 78th Ill. Regiment and that he also had four brothers in the Civil War and at the time of his death he was drawing a pension of $1.00 per day. He at one time was a guard at the Chester penitentiary and before coming here he had spent several months at the Soldiers Home in Quincy and it is understood that he married his last wife in the vicinity of Camp Point. He was a member of the G.A.R. and at one time was commander of the post. at Brooklyn, Schuler County, illinois.
The funeral took place Monday afternoon from the residence with the members of the local G.A.R. post in attendance.
ROBERT W. PRIEST
, 88, of Bluffs died Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, in New Salem
He was born Jan. 11, 1921 in Winchester, the son of Otto and Mary McLaughlin Priest. He married Imogene Newberry in 1941. She preceded him in death, March 23, 1983.
Surviving is one son, Gary W. (Judy) Priest of Elberfeld, Ind.; two grandchildren, Darcy (Joe) Smith of Meredosia and Tammy (Robin) Berry of Bluffs; four great-grandchildren, Christian (Alicia) Barnett of San Antonia, Texas, Caleb (Sabrina) Barnett and Cainan Barnett, both of Springfield and Kayla (Roger) Luckett of Oak Park; three great-great-grandchildren, Karah, Mathew and Faith Barnett; his 25 year companion, Carolyn Lawber of New Salem; his companion's children, Chuck (ex-wife, Paula of Knob Noster, Mo.) Lawber of Sadalia, Mo. and Lorrie Cuartas of Perryville, Mo.; companion's grandchildren, Logan Lawber and Lakin (Cole) Miller, both of Knob Noster, and Malea Cuartas and Quinn Burns, both of Perryville; and his companion's great granddaughter, Kylie Miller of Knob Noster. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Jane Drake and two brothers, Mac and Charles Priest.
Mr. Priest was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Bluffs until it closed. He then became a member of the St. Mark's Catholic Church in Winchester. He was a veteran having served in the Navy, Marines, and Army in both WWII and the Korean Conflict. Robert was employed as a warehouse supervisor for National Starch in Meredosia until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the Bluffs American Legion. He was an avid golfer and gardener. He was known as a gentleman farmer working on Carolyn's farmstead.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Marks Church in Winchester. Visitation was Monday after 2 p.m. with the family meeting friends from 4 until 8 p.m. at the Mackey Daws Funeral Home in Bluffs. Interment was in the St. Mark's Cemetery in Winchester. DONALD PULTS
, 65, of Nebo, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at the Illini Community Hospital ER in Pittsfield.
Born Jan. 11, 1944 in Quincy, he was a son to George Leroy and Ruby L. Embree Pults. He married Jeanette Dark Sept. 23, 1972 at the Park View Church in Quincy, and she survives.
Donnie was a construction laborer and had worked for the Missouri Valley Construction Co. in Texas before moving to Pike County. He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, playing cards, dancing with wife Jeanette and attending family gatherings. He attended the Nazarene Church in Nebo.
Surviving is his wife Jeanette; one son, Bryan (Channon) Pults of Pleasant Hill, one brother, George (Sharon) Pults of Hannibal, Mo.; three sisters, Dorothy Pults of Quincy, Mary (Jim) Atkins of Hannibal and Sue (Ron) Guthrie of Quincy; and five grandchildren.
His twin brother, Ronald, a brother Leroy, and a grandson Zachery preceded Donnie in death.
Services will be held today, Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 2 p.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Pastor Darren Workman officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the Shiloh Cemetery in Plainville
WAYNE L. PUTERBAUGH
, 66. of Rockport Route 2, a retired railroad employee, died at 11:10 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 25, 1994) in Illini Hospital in Pittsfield.
A Pleasant Hill native, Mr. Puterbaugh was born May 5. 1928, a son of Byron L. and Beulah Clark Puterbaugh. He married Verna E. Smith June 1. 1947. in Pleasant Hill. She survives.
Mr. Puterbaugh was a section foreman for the G. M. & 0. Railroad for 43 years before retiring in 1990. He then farmed and raised exotic animals which he enjoyed showing to local school children.
Mr. Puterbaugh was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, many area saddle clubs. I had served on the Pike County ' Fair Board and was former secretary for the railroad union Local 122.
Survivors also include three sons, Buzz and Rick of Pleasant Hill, and Gayle of Houston, Texas: three daughters. Judy Clowers. Teresa Hill and Dorothy McElfresh, all of Pleasant Hill; three brothers, Bill Puterbaugh of Indianapolis. Ind.. and David and Barney Puterbaugh. both of New Canton; two sisters. Thelma Guthrie of Pleasant Hill and Shirley Pindell of Clayton: 13 grandchildren. Josh, Ryan. Chad. and Kyndle Puterbaugh. Clint McKinnon, Ellie Clowers, Bob McElfresh and Lonnie Hill. all of Pleasant Hill. Gary Clowers of Edwardsville, Lance McElfresh of Quincy, Chris Hill of Springfield. and Justin and Erin Puterbaugh of Barry; and three great- grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the Ward-Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill by the Rev. Jerry Webster. Burial will be in Crescent Heights Cemetery at Pleasant Hill.
Visitation will be held 5-8 tonight and Friday morning in the funeral home in Pleasant Hill. Memorials may be made Crescent Heights Cemetery A ciation, Pleasant Hill Fire partment or Illini Hospitalpice Room.
RICHARD RUSSELL PUTERBAUGH
, 77, of 527 Broadway, died Monday (March 8, 2010) in Blessing Hospital.
He was born Dec. 5, 1932, in Kampsville, a son of Russell Puterbaugh and Lora Weir Puterbaugh. On Feb. 6, 1954, he married Connie Louise Johnson in Louisiana, Mo. She died on Dec. 1, 2000.
He graduated from Pleasant Hill High School and later graduated from diesel mechanic school in St. Louis. He had many occupations including farming, gas station owner/operator, construction worker and equipment operator.
He was baptized in the RLDS church. In his spare time, he enjoyed shooting pool and watching football and basketball, especially the Pleasant Hill Wolves.
He will forever be remembered as the man who shot a cannon, every time the Wolves scored a touchdown.
Survivors include three sons, Gary Puterbaugh of Springfield, Lewis Puterbaugh and his
partner, Janet, of Longmont, Colo., and Edwin Puterbaugh of Longmont; a brother, Lynold Puterbaugh of Pleasant Hill; and a niece and nephew.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; and a nephew.
