LUCINDA JANE (WAGNER) RICHARDSON - The funeral of Mrs. Thomas Richardson on Thursday afternoon last was the occasion of a great outpouring of old settlers, who followed the remains from the family home at Langworth to the Oakdale Union Church, and thence to the Masonic Cemetery, Reverend J. McBride preached the sermon, taking for his text I Thessalonians 4:13-18. At the close of the sermon Mr. McBride read the following sketch of Mrs. Richardson's life: Lucinda Jane Wagner, wife of Thomas Richardson was born in Tennesee, September 4, 1824, and died at her home in Langworth, California, January 9, 1897, aged 72 years, 4 months, and 15 days. While quite young she moved with her parents to Missouri, where they remained for a few years, afterwards making the State of Illinois their home. She married Thomas Richardson on the 9th of January, 1845. In the year 1852, in company with her husband and children, she crossed the plains. They traveled with an ox-team, and endured patiently many trials and hardships, not to say dangers, the worst being the loss of two children; finally reaching Stanislaus County, California, after having been seven months on the road, yet she was hopeful though saddened by her loss. For eight years she assisted her husband in the management of the Lone Star Hotel, and many a weary traveler went miles out of his way to be entertained by her, being sure of a kind welcome. For nearly forty years they have lived on the farm where she passed from this life of suffering, having herself assured her husband that she was going to die happy. In 1867 she became a member of the United Brethren Church, to which she has been loyal and true for thirty years. Her charity did not stop even here, as she has contributed to the building of nearly every church in this county. In case of sickness she has been a tower of strength in this community. All have long depended upon her, for she was always among the first to administer hope and comfort, and it was at the bedside of the afflicted that her noble character shone out with a brilliant lustre. By her kind words and deeds she has gained the plaudit "Well done good and faithful servant." In 1895 the many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Richardson gave them a golden wedding as a surprise. With tears in her eyes she thanked them, and expressed the hope that they, with her, might sometime wear a golden crown. She leaves to mourn their loss besides her husband, two sons, John and Ephriam Richardson, a sister and a brother not residing in this State, two nephews R.R, and T.F. Snedigar, and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, to call her blessed. Three of these grandchildren, Mrs. B.F. Crow, Mrs. J. Watts and Leroy Porter, have received from her a mother's care. Four of her children and many friends of her youth have gone on before. Many friends are left to keep her memory sacred believing that

THOMAS RICHARDSON , a native of Kentucky, aged 90 years, 1 month, and 26 days, passed away at the home of his son Ephriam Richardson, in Oakdale, at 10:30 o'clock Tuesday morning, Nov. 24, 1908. The aged pioneer had been confined to his bed from extreme old age and a general breaking down a greater portion of the time for several months before the brittle cord was severed.

Thomas Richardson came to California across the plains from Pike County, Ill., in 1862, pitching camp on the Stanislaus river near the spot where the Walker residence is now located, on Oct. 7th of that year. But few of the hardy pioneers who composed the party in their first camp in the then Eldorado of the far West, survive to mourn the death of their beloved friend. Since that time the deceased has continuously resided in this immediate locality, where he has been held in high esteem for his integrity of character and good citizenship. For a few years after his arrival here he was engaged in farming and stockraising, but later he was among the big cattle and sheep men of the San Joaquin Valley, numbering his flocks and herds by the thousands. To graze these heards, he owned large tracts of land in this vicinity and elsewhere. During the 70's and at other times, owing to unfavorable seasons resulting in financial reverses, much of this valuable property was swept away, but a competency remained for his declining years.

In all of his dealings, both large and small, he was upright and honorable, thus maintaining the confidence and esteem of his fellow citizens. He leaves two sons, John and Ephraim Richardson of Oakdale, and a number of grandchildren residing at Oakland, Stockton, Crows Landing, Oakdale, and Cooperstown.

(The Oakdale Leader of the following week contained a correction which said that "in Thomas Richardson's obituary in last week's paper the date of Richardson's arrival in California should have been 1852 instead of 1862")

W.K. RODWAY - On Wednesday, April 10, 1895 (Died 8 April 1895) we were called upon to lay the mortal remains of our most highly esteemed friend, W. K. Rodway, in their final resting place. The brief services at his late home were conducted by the pastor of the Congregational church, Rev. N. L. Burton, assisted by some of his friends who sang appropriate selections. The scripture read was the 14th chapter of the Gospel by St. John, chosen for the occasion by Mr. Rodway himself after he was told by his physician that he could not recover. He said that chapter comforted him and he called the attention of his loved ones to it in hope that they would find comfort there in their coming bereavement. One looking upon the peaceful face in the casket and remembering the expressions of pain which so often were seen upon his face during the last days of the fearful malady which terminated his mortal life, could hardly refrain from thoughts like that expressed in the 3d verse of this chapter, "And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am there ye may be also." In the weary hours of his last sickness, the lessons taught him in childhood in his Christian home came clearly to his memory, and his acceptance of the salvation of the Gospel was clear and unquestioning. In my last conversation with him he told me that he had hoped to be permitted to enter the covenant of the church of Christ before be was called away, but that it did not seem to be God's will that he should. But said he, "I have the promise of Christ, and that is enough." His final moments were so peaceful that to those who watched beside him he seemed literally to fulfill the favorite expression of the early Christians and fall asleep. After a brief service at the house the Modern Woodmen and the members of the Masonic order, each of which he was a member, conducted his remains to the cemetery, whither he was followed by a large concourse of his grief stricken friends, and with the appropriate and impressive rituals of their orders laid him to his final rest. I esteem it a privilege to supplement the eminently just statement of last week with these words of appreciation, with the hope that they may tend to comfort , those most sorely bereaved by his early death. JOHN W. RUSH , was born in Virginia ?? 25, 1800. He emigrated to Ohio When be was a little child, where he grew to manhood and married Miss Sarah C. Brown, Oct. 3, 1826. They came to Illinois soon after their marriage and settled in Pike county on the farm where they ended their days, she passing away July, 31, 1889, and he Jan. 16, 1892. They lived happily together almost sixty-three years, and were separated by death only a little more than two years, when they were reunited in the heavenly world, to be together forever with the Lord. Early in life father Rush became a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, and sub-sequently united with the Methodist Episcopal church with his devoted companion, who had for many years been a member of said church. He greatly loved the church and was ever a faithful and worthy member, ever adoring the doctrine of God our Saviour. He was a great redder and a deep thinker; he read and studied the Bible, and accordingly accepted Christ as his personal Saviour, at whose right hand he now appears in glory. Four sons and three daughters remain upon earth, who revere the memory of their sainted parents, following them as they followed Christ, having the blessed assurance that their Redeemer liveth, with whom they and their parents shall live forever. Mr. Rush was a man widely known and held in high esteem in the community. He was especially kind and good to the poor, and no doubt many in that great day will rise up and call him blessed. The funeral services were held at his late residence, the writer officiating GEO. B. WOLFE.

MARGARET (DINSMORE) RUSH , oldest daughter of Robert and Fatima Dinsmore, was born near Exeter, Scott Co., IL August 7, 1830, and departed this life at her home near Detroit, Thursday, January 18, 1917, aged 86 years, 5 months and 11 days. When about seven years of age the family removed to St. Louis, then a flourishing river town of small size in which place they resided until their return again to Exeter from which place they came to Pike county settling on Honey Creek. Here they resided until September of 1848 when the family moved overland to Iowa, she driving one of the wagons. They resided in Iowa until May 1849, then returned to Pike County, near Detroit, which has ever since been her home. She was one of a family of eight, six brothers and two sisters besides one half brother, Harry Dinsmore, and one half sister, Mary, wife of Alfred Rush.

On Easter Sunday, April 11, 1852, she was married to James Rush and came to the same yard in which she has resided for almost 65 years, her husband departing this life suddenly August 2, 1888. To this union were six sons. Perry, Hiram, James, Otis, Emmet and Clay. All living in and near Detroit excepting Otis who resides in Pittsfield and James who departed this life in St. Louis, December 11, 1890 Besides being a true mother to her own six sons, that she reared and watch grow to manhood, she also took into her own home and cared for an equal number of children from other homes that today know her and love her as their mother also. She was a great lover of her family and home and her greatest joy was in her own family circle. Her death, after a brief illness, comes as a shock to the entire neighborhood and removes from the community a woman of sterling worth and character and one of its oldest residents and mothers. Besides her five sons, she leaves two brothers, Lewis and James Dinsmore. Both of Detroit, sixteen grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. as her immediate family who truly morn the loss of her who loved them all as her own children. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon, at 2:30. Conducted by Honorable C. E. Bolin of Milton who was assisted by the Rev. Victor Doris, paster or the Detroit Christian Church. Interment was in the Blue River Cemetery. It is interesting to note that in her childhood, Mrs. Rush attended school near the present Blue River Cemetery which then was merely a pasture. She had often in her girlhood coasted down the hills that are now covered with huge mountains. In her own lifetime, she had seen the past changed from what was simply a tract of wasteland into one of the largest and most beatifully kept cemetaries in this section of the country.
