HARRY J. UPPINGHOUSE , 76, of Barry died at 8:48 a.m. Friday (April 5, 1996) in Blessing Hospital. Born July 2, 1919, in Barry, he was a son of Bert E. and Harriet A. Hoyt Uppinghouse. He married Frances Grammer on Jan. 15, 1961, in Baylis. She died Aug. 20, 1984. Mr. Uppinghouse was a mem­ber of Barry First Baptist Church. He was owner and operator of Ownby and Co. in Barry for many years before retiring in 1986. He had served as a Barry alderman for several years. Survivors include a sister-in- law, Florence Winans of Baylis. He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul E. Uppinghouse. Funeral services will be con­ducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Barry First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry, Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Memorials may be made to Barry First Baptist Church.

OLIVE (LIPPINCOTT) UPPINGHOUSE who died at her home in this city last Friday, was laid to rest in Park Lawn cemetery Sunday afternoon. The funeral services were held in the M. E. church, conducted by Rev. D. V. Gowdy. The services at the grave were conducted by the Eastern Star lodge of which she was an old member. She was also a member of the Pike County Mutual lodge, in which she was insured. She was 39 years, 10 months and 7 days old on the date of her death.

GLENNA M. URAM age 69, of rural Nebo, Il. and formerly of Griggsville, Il. passed away Wednesday afternoon (February 24, 2010) at Illini Hospital in Pittsfield, Il. She was born on January 5, 1941 at her paternal grandparents home in rural Nebo daughter of the late Lafe and Faye Waggnor Ramsey. She married Frank Uram on May 4, 1963 at the Greek Orthodox Church in Des Plaines, Il. and he survives. Also surviving are seven brothers and sisters, Carolyn Crater and husband Don of Ashland, Il., Dick Ramsey and wife Billie of Nebo, Il., Jean Cowen and husband Tim of Camp Point, Il., Rick Ramsey of Springfield, Il., Rex Ramsey and wife Jeanna of Milton, Il., Joyce Dodson and husband Ed of Pittsfield, Il., and Randy Ramsey of Vandalia, Missouri; a special family member Judy Schlieper and husband Ed of Pearl, Il.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother Bob Ramsey; her father and mother-in-law Frank and Julia Uram; and a brother-in-law Jerry Oblock. Glenna was a 1959 graduate of East Pike High School in Milton, Il. and upon graduation, attended airline school in Kansas City. She accepted a position in Chicago working for Air Canada where she worked most of her career except for a brief period in transferring to New York. After she retired they moved back to Pike County, Il. to be closer to family. Glenna enjoyed her flower gardening each year and had beautiful gardens that she loved and tended each gardening season. She also enjoyed needle work and genealogy research. She was a member of the Pike County Color Drive helping to promote tourism for the county, as well as the Griggsville Historical Society and Ladies Home Extension. Visitation will be held from 6p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield, Il. Burial will be in Oak Spring Cemetery in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania

CHARLOTTE USHERWOOD - Died, at New Salem, Ill., Oct. 10, 1894, Mrs. Charlotte Usherwood, wife of Geo. Usherwood. Mrs. Usherwood was born at Sussex, England, July 13, 1834. Her age at the time of her death was 60 years, 2 months and 27 days. Her maiden name was Balduck, and in 1870 upon the death of her sister she came from England and August 8, 1871, she was united in marriage to Mr. Geo. Usherwood. In all respects she made a good wife, a kind and loving mother to her husband's children, and an excellent neighbor. She will be sadly missed from the home circle. In England she was an Episcopalian, but after coming to this country she united with the M. E church. The funeral services were held at the M, E. church in New Salem, Oct. 11, after which her remains were taken to Griggsville for burial.

JOHN T. USHERWOOD of Atlanta died at a Hopedale hospital Wednesday April 11, 1973 two hours after being injured on the job at Lincoln State school where he was employed. He was born Aug. 31, 1909 at Pittsfield, a son of WIlliam and Edith Graves Usherwood. The family m oved from Pleasant Hill to Lincoln when John was a small child. Surviving besides his wife Cora are two sons, John William of Atlanta, Noble of the state of GA; a daughter Mrs. John (Betty) Nelson of Lincoln; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Louis of Atlanta, Norman of Tampa FL and mrs. John (Lula) Amberg, Lincoln. Burial at Zion cemetery at Lincoln.
