ROBERT BRANT VOSHALL , 78, died in Parksvi Ile, British Columbia, Dec. 8, 2009. He was born April 4, 1931 in Hannibal, Mo., the son of Thelma and J. Harold Voshall, and spent his formative years in Pittsfield. Bob spent his childhood and youth in Pittsfield, where he was one of the "five Bobs" on the Pittsfield H.S. basketball team that went to the state championship. Bob graduated from Colorado College in 1953 where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He married Colleen Jacobsen and pursued a career as a sales representative for housewares. In 1972 he moved to Evergreen and married Ann Bradfield. Upon retirement, he and Ann created Evergreen Flags as a cottage industry, designing colorful flags, which were fabricated by hand in Evergreen. Bob also promoted the American flag around town and is largely responsible for the installation of several flagpoles in public places. He served on the board of Forest Heights Lodge. He was a member of the University Club and Hiwan Country Club as well as an avid Broncos fan and bird hunter. He loved all kinds of music but had a passion for Dixieland Jazz. The Voshalls relocated to Vancouver Island, B.C., in 2001 where Bob became president of the Northwest Bay Probis Club. He spearheaded the effort to bring Dixieland Jazz bands to the island to entertain. He was known as "Social Voshal I," someone who kept in touch with numerous friends from grade school as well as others he'd made throughout his adulthood, all of whom made a point to contact him during his illness. This is his legacy. As a landed immigrant to Canada, he remained loyal and patriotic to the United States; the country's conservative ideals were important to him. He was a true American flag waver despite his deep appreciation for his many caring and generous Canadian friends. Bob is survived by his wife, Ann; daughters, Betsy Mathies (Mike) of Littleton, Colo. and Sarah Nelson of Medina, Wash.; stepdaughter, Lynn Shorn (Mark) of Kingston, Wash.; and stepson, Tom Bradfield of Lakewood, Colo.; granddaughters, Leigh Smith (Greg) and Kelly Mathies, Katie and Hadley Nelson, Tess Shorn.
