JOSEPH WAGNER - Funeral services for Joseph Wagner Sr., 625 South 13th Street will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 o'clock in the Zehender-Robinson Funeral Home, 1423 State. Graveside services andinterment at 12 noon Thursday in Wells Cemetery, Pleasant Hill IL. Friends invited and may call at the funeral home Wednesday. The casket will be opened at the cemetery.
OBITUARY: Joseph J. Wagner, Sr. 71, of 625 South Thirteenth died Monday night at 6:30 in his home. He had been in failing health for several years and his death was caused by a heart attack. Mr. Wagner was born in Milwaukee, March 3, 1895, a son of Stephen and Lena Amen Wagner. He served in the army from September 1917 to November 1918. He was married March 4, 1923, in Quincy to Gladys C. Smith. He operated the Wagner garage in Pittsfield from 1925 to 1934 and then accepted a position as technical staff merchanic at a CCC camp, near Pittsfield. When the camp disbanded about 27 years ago, Mr and Mrs. Wagner moved to Quincy and for a time he was technical staff mechanic at a CCC camp near here. He did some work as a machinest and mechanic at his home but also had been employed by a number of Quincy plants as a machinist, including Peerless Pump. He was also a city employee for a time. He retired about five years ago. Mr. Wagner was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Surviving are his widow; a daughter Mrs. Frank (Arlene) Saeger of Quincy, a son, Joseph J. Wagner Jr. of Wilmette, and five grandchildren, Allan and Susan Saeger of Quincy and Jeffery, Lawrence, Joseph and Julia Ellen Wagner of Wilmette.

L.L. WALLACE 95, of 1808 N Wilmar Ct., died Thursday, (Feb. 11, 2010) in his home. He was born March 23, 1914, in New Canton, Ill., a son of Joseph and Famie Dolbeare Wallace. On May 29, 1941, he married Maxine Roberts in First Christian Church in Quincy. She survives. He was a graduate of New Canton High School and Gem City Business College. Wally began his career at Central Fibre Products Company Quincy Mill in 1934. He became the assistant manager of the paper mill in Vincennes, Ind., and then the manager of the mill in Tama, Iowa. Wally transferred to the general offices in Quincy as sales manager and later transferred to the general offices in Evanston of the Packaging Corporation of America. There, he became the Vice President of paper board sales, and he oversaw all of the recycled paperboard mills. In 1980 Wally retired after 46 years with Central Fibre/Packaging Corporation of America. In 1980 he was elected to the Board of Directors of Republic Gypsum Corporation in Dallas, Texas, where he served for 18 years. Wally was a Master Mason for 73 years at the New Canton Lodge #821, and for 27 years at the Scottish Rite, Quincy Shrine. He was a member of Vermont Street United Methodist Church, the Quincy Country Club, Quincy Elks Club, Pike County Farm Bureau, past member of the American Paperboard Association and Quincy Gun Club. Wally was a lover of the outdoors, and he especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time working around his Pike County farm. He was fortunate enough to play golf until he was 90. Wally enjoyed watching his beloved Chicago Cubs when the games were televised and supported them through all their ups and downs. He knew all the player's names and loved discussing games, plays, trades, etc. In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Jo Anne Rodgers and her husband, Wilson Ragan, of Amarillo, Texas; a grandson, Thomas Wallace Rodgers and his wife, Laura, of Des Moines, Iowa; three great granddaughters Elizabeth, Katherine, and Noma Jane Rodgers all of Des Moines; a grand daughter, Katherine Rodgers Fagan and her husband, Paul, of Dallas, Texas; and two great grandsons, Jackson and Wilson Fagan both of Dallas. He was preceded in death by his parents SERVICES: 10 a.m. Monday in Vermont Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Grulke conducting. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Wamsley of Quincy; a grandchild; a great-grandchild; and a sister: Ms. Florence Williamson of Griggsville. Preceded by three brothers.

LESTER WEIR , 89, ofTopeka, died May 12, 2010. Lee was born Oct. 10, 1920, the son of Lester Lee and Hallie Weir of Pleasant Hill. He gradu­ated from Pleasant Hill High School and Illinois College in Jacksonville. Lee married Mayme D. Merillat of Topeka June 24, 1942. A veteran of World War II, he served with the Army in the 703rd Petroleum Distribution Unit in Africa and Italy. He returned to Topeka in 1945, and worked as auditor and Secretary Treasurer at Meade Insurance Co. for 35 years. Mr. Weir is survived by his wife, Mayme; sons Mike, of Springfield and Scott and daughter-in-law, Katy, of Topeka; two grandsons, Evan (and his wife, Katie) of Madison, Wis. and Cameron (and his fiancée, Jessy) of Minneapolis, Minn. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister, and is survived by a brother, Robert, and sister, Carolyn Smith. The family received friends at Westminster Presbyterian Church from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 14. Funeral services were 11 a.m. Saturday, May 15 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Topeka. Burial followed in Mt. Hope Cemetery.

WILLIAM WOOD WELBOURNE , of Springfield, and formerly of New Carlisle, Ohio, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2009, at his home. He was ninety years old. Mr. Welbourne was born on April 26, 1919, in Hadley Township, Pike County, Illinois, the son of William Sylvester Welbourne and Mary Adeline Wood Welbourne. He grew up on a farm in western Illinois across the Mississipi River from Hannibal, Missouri. He was salutatorian of his high school class of 1937 and received a full scholarship to the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in engineering. He graduated with honors with a degree in electrical engineering in June, 1941. In 1942, Bill married Julia Nelle Porter of Cincinnati, Ohio and they enjoyed 13 years of marriage and had 3 children ( Porter, Todd, and Becky) before her death in 1956 from breast cancer. In 1958, Bill married Martha Powell of Springfield, Ohio. They had one child (Beverly) together. From 1943 to 1946, he served in the U.S. Navy, teaching RADAR and SONAR at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and was deployed on destroyer escorts in the Atlantic. After the war and his discharge from the Navy, Bill moved to the Dayton area and took a job as a civilian engineer with the Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, where he worked in aviation electronics and specialized RADAR systems for over 30 years. He developed RADAR guidance systems that were used by military and civilian aircraft and also directed a research and development group. After retiring from the government at 54, he became a Defense Department consultant and worked for Systems Research Laboratories for the next 23 years. Bill was a devoted and loving father and husband. His hobbies included gardening, mushroom hunting, and especially baseball. He played on and managed baseball teams all his life and was still pitching on a softball team at the age of 78. He attended the New Carlisle Church of the Brethren and taught Sunday school for 16 years. He was an avid supporter of environmental causes, including the Nature Conservancy, National Wildlife Federation, the Sierra Club, National Audubon Society and World Wildlife Fund. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mary Jo Foster, and his first wife. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Martha Welbourne; his children, William Porter Welbourne (Claudia) of Penn Yan, NY; Todd Glenn Welbourne (Julie) of Madison, WI; Rebecca Jo Welbourne Weber (Stephen) of Williamsport, PA; and Beverly Jean Welbourne (Gary Matthews) of Goshen, OH. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorial service will held at 3 pm Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at the TROSTEL CHAPMAN, DUNBAR & FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, New Carlisle, Ohio, with visitation one hour prior. ALBERT M. WENDORFF , 91, of Barry, died at 6:10 a.m. Monday (Feb. 26,-1996) in Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield. Born Jan. 9, 1905, in Barry, Mr. Wendorff was a son of Henry and Elizabeth Rohrig Wendorff. He married Helen G. Yelton Sept. 8, 1951, in Pittsfield. She survives. Mr. Wendorff operated Wen­dorff and Co. Grocery and Fur­niture Store with his brothers in Barry for many years. He was a lifetime Barry resident and en­joyed fishing and hunting. Survivors also include several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Mr. Wendorff was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Wen­dorff, who died at age 2; two brothers, Frank and William Wendorff; and three sisters, Gladys Kemp, Carolena Kendall and Lillie Pittman. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Kirgan Fu­neral Home in Barry. Burial will be in Parklawn Cemetery at Barry.Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. ETHEL B. (WADE) WENDORFF , 91, of Barry died at 7:58 a.m. Saturday (April 2, 1988) in Barry Community Care Center. Mrs. Wendorff was born May 27, 1896, in Pike County, a daughter of Edward and Mary Barley Wade. She married Ray Tittsworth April 17, 1917. He died in 1959. She later .married William Wendorff in 1966 He died Jan. 3, 1987. Mrs. Wendorff was a cook at the grade school in El Dara for many years and, at the time of her death, the oldest living member of El Dara Methodist Church, which she attended for almost 90 years. Survivors include a son, Ladell Tittsworth of Barry; three daugh­ters, Mrs. Thomas (Ilene) Royalty of Clayton, Mrs. Doris Chaney of Ad­air, Iowa, and Mrs. Sam (Illa) Johnson of Ewing, Mo.; 15 grand- children; 29 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Lummis-Bennett Funeral Home in Barry by the Rev. Dean Benton and the Rev. Wesley Osborn. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and until the time of services Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to El Dara Methodist Church.

THOMAS FRANKLIN WENDORFF , 88 of Pittsfield passed away early Wednesday morning Dec. 2, 2009 at Illini Hospital. He was born June 3, 1921 in Barry the son of the late Frank and Elvira Hoyt Wendorff. He married Mildred McCallister June 13, 1951 in Rockport. Mr. Wendorff was a 1939 graduate of Barry High School. He received his BA from Culver Stockton College in 1947 and his Masters Degree from University of Potsdam in New York. He was a pilot in the US Navy during WW 2. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Pittsfield Teachers Association and the 1st Christian Church. He had worked at Fletcher Ford in Barry and International Harvester in Pittsfield before he began his teaching career. He taught science at Higbee Jr. High in Pittsfield from 1956 until his retirement in 1986. He enjoyed fishing and traveling with his wife. Surviving is his wife Millie at home, a niece Cindy (husband Ron) Hechler of Barry, 2 great nieces Jean Conkright, and Anna Hechler, and a great great niece. Preceding him in death was a sister Bonnie Gully (surviving husband Jody Gully of Barry) Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Monday Dec. 7, 2009 at the 1st Christian Church in Pittsfield. Burial will be in Pittsfield West Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 until 5 PM at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Memorial contributions can be made to the 1st Christian Church

VELMA WENDORFF , 92, of Barry, died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, at home. it She was born Nov. 29, 1916, in Bluffs, the daughter of Francis Dale and Lula Delphine Wedeking Thompson. She married Charles Henry Wendorff Sept. 19, 1942, in Shelbina, Mo. He died Dec. 7, 1971. Velma is survived by her one son, Charles Henry Wendorff, Jr., who had been born on his father's. birthday. Also surviving are her beloved daughter-in-law, Sherrill; three grandchildren, Penny (Stephen) Moyer and William q Dale Wendorff, of Barry, and Jane (Jason) Craps, of Peoria. There are al also five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sis- 1 ters, Ruth Gregory and Mabel Lou Christison, and her brother, Richard Dale Thompson. Velma started her career as a n postal clerk in Bluffs, advancing to acting Postmaster during World War II. At completion of that posi­tion, she went to Bangor, Maine to join her husband at Dow Air Force Base. Shortly afterward, her husband was transferred to the Finance Corps at Chatham Air Force Base, Savannah, Ga. Velma accompanied him and began work- oi ing as a correspondence secretary in base personnel. A few months later, her husband was sent to the Philippines for duty. Upon completion of his tour, he returned stateside and he and Velma were sent to Fifth Army Headquarters in Chicago, where Velma worked as a secretary in Counter Intelligence. Two years later, her husband was transferred to Korea, then later to Japan and after 18 months' sepa­ration, Velma and her son were allowed to join him at Fort Zama, near Yokohama, then to Sasebo, located at the extreme southern island of Kyushu. Velma was employed as office manager and , cashier at both Post Exchange Upon their return to the United States (by way of Adak, Ala.), Mr. Wendorff was assigned to the Finance Office at Camp Crowder, Neosho, Mo. There, Velma first worked in base personnel. When • this base became a G.I. Prison Confinement, Velma transferred to the prison personnel section. After spending three years there, Velma's husband was transferred to the Office of the Army Attache, American Embassy, in San Jose, Costa Rica for another three- year tour of duty-his family to accompany him. From there, they were sent as a working couple to the Office of the Army Attache, American Legation, Budapest, in Hungary. After another three years, they again were sent as a working couple to Office of the Army Attache, American Embassy, Beirut, Lebanon. Another three years, then retirement, returning to the United States and Barry, in January, 1966. After a year of being idle, Velma accepted a posi­tion at Frankden orchards in Barry. She worked there for 37 years, again retiring, but only when the Orchard went out of business and the owner moved to Texas. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry, Friends called from 2 p.m. until time of service. Burial was in the Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

WILLIAM H. WENDORFF , 91, a Barry merchant for many years, died at 11:10 a.m. Sat­urday (Jan. 3, 1987) at his home. Mr. Wendorff was born April 27, 1895, a son of Henry and Elizabeth Robrig Wendorff. He married Norma Early Sept. 18, 1919. She died May 10, 1965. He married Ethel Tittsworth of El Dara in August 1966. She survives. Mr. Wendorff was a lifelong resident of Barry. He attended Barry schools and was a veteran of World War I. He and his brother, Frank, owned and operated the Wendorff and Co. Grocery and Furniture Store until his brother's death in 1957. His sons became partners until the store closed in 1971. He was a member of the Barry American Legion Post 222. Surviving are his wife; a son, William Glen of Barry; a daughter- in-law, Mrs. Charles H. Wendorff; a brother, Albert of Barry; a sister, Carolena Kendall of Barry; four stepchildren, Mrs. Tom (Ilene) Royalty, Mrs. A.L. (Doris) Chaney, Mrs. Sam (Illa Mae) Johnson and LaDell Tittsworth; three grand­children; and five great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, and a son, Charles Henry Wendorff. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Lummis-­Bennett Funeral Home in Barry. Burial will be in Park Lawn Ceme­tery in Barry. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Barry American Legion Post 222.

FRED WENOM , 60, of Palm Coast, Florida, died Saturday, September 5, 2009, near Louisiana, Mo., while riding his Harley. He left us exactly as he had asked God to take him - on his bike. Witnesses watched as he kept control of his bike, slowed down, and rode off into a grassy field. Neither he nor the bike sustained any injuries. He always said he wanted to “ride it to the end with his boots on”! Fred was born on January 23, 1949 in St. Louis, Mo., to Fred and Helen Hansen Wenom. He served our great country from 1968 to 1970 in the Army 84th Artillery Battalion as a marksman and Pershing Missile crewman stationed in Germany. He married Patricia Thousand, on February 27, 1971, with whom he had a son, Darrow, and a daughter, Wendy. Patricia and Fred were very happy and shared many good years together. Upon retiring from St. Louis Carpenters Union Local 73L in 2005, Fred and his wife moved to Palm Coast, FL in May of the same year. He enjoyed riding his Harley, playing golf, and fishing. His true joy in life was spending time with family and friends. He loved “tinkering” and building projects for his grandchildren and family. He was a true craftsman! Fred was preceded in death by father, Frederick “Darrow” Wenom, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Wenom, of Palm Coast, FL; son, Darrow Wenom, of Perry, IL; daughter, Wendy Wenom Brown, and son in law, Alex Brown, of Ormond Beach, FL; mother, Helen “Jean” Wenom and sister, Becky Spilker, both of San Diego, CA. He had four grandchildren, Eastin Wenom, of Perry, IL; Nolan, Emery, and Sadie Brown, all of Ormond Beach, FL; as well as much loved brothers-n-law, sisters-n-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2009, from 2 pm to 4 pm, with a service to follow at 4:00 pm, at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Il. Family and close friends will be gathering at Walnut Knob near Time, Il. following the service.

BERNICE E. (FISHER) WHEWELL , 85, of Pittsfield, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, at the Barry Community Care Center in Barry. Born near Murrayville, she was a daughter of Lee and Stella Bunch Fisher. She married Wilburn Eugene Whewell March 11,1941, at Bowling Green, Mo. and he preceded her Jan. 3,1988. Bernice farmed along side her husband for many years. Later she worked at the Heritage House and Cardinal Inn Restaurants in Pittsfield, also the Community Services and Reachout in Pittsfield. Bernice was a devoted member of the Pittsfield Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed fishing, rock hunting, going to yard and garage sales, visiting her friends by telephone and watching the humming birds coming to her feeder. Bernice dearly loved her family, her friends and her church. She especially enjoyed watching the regular Saturday evening ministries on TV and the Gaithers. She is survived by two sons, Gene Whewell and Darrell Whewell both of Pittsfield; one brother, Robert Fisher of Jacksonville; a sister, Anna Anderson of Chapin; four grandchildren, Kim(Carl)Anderson of San Antonio, Texas, Kristi (Mike) Johnson of Barry, Steve (wife Monika) Whewell of Tulsa, Okla. and Sandy (Greg)Fitzgerald, also of Tulsa; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded by one brother, Tracy Fisher. Funeral services will be today, Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Pittsfield with Rev. Quentin Beard officiating. Burial will be at Pittsfield West Cemetery. Friends may call at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield Tuesday 5 till 8 p.m. Memorials are to the Barry Community Care Center Activity Fund

IRENE WILLIS , 91 of Pittsfield , IL., died Sunday morning (2/7/10) at Liberty Village in Pittsfield . Irene was born on June 15, 1918 and married Rayburn Willis on October 10, 1969 and he preceded her in death on July 1, 1985. She worked as a nurse’s aide at Illini Community Hospital for several years and attended the Pittsfield United Methodist Church and was a member of the United Methodist Church Women. A stepson Robert Willis of Mt. Sterling , IL , one brother Earl Daniels of Nebo , IL , 5 step grandchildren, survives her. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Niebur Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Wilber officiating. Burial will be at West Cemetery in Pittsfield . Friends may call at the Niebur Funeral Home on Thursday from 1 p.m. till time of services at 2 p.m.

MRS. R.M. WINDSOR , who has been ill with pneumonia at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ellis at Neosho, Mo., passed away yesterday morning. The remains will be brought here for interment and funeral services will be held at the home of W. J. Wilson, the time to be announced later.

GRACE SYMBELMUNA and MERCY ROSE WINNER infant twin daughters of Joseph and Katy Winner of Pittsfield, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009 at birth at Blessing Hospital in Quincy. Survivors are her parents of Pittsfield, grandparents, Mark and Becky Winner of Pittsfield and Connie Jensen of Aledo; great-grandparents, Elisabeth Iftner of Pittsfield, Don and Ona Ogle of New London, Mo. and Robert and Barbara Bird of Aledo. They are preceded by grandfathers Joe Iftner and John Winner. Private graveside services will be today, Wednesday at Oakwood Cemetery in Pittsfield with Pastor's Daren Dietmeier, Eric Moore and Chad Savage officiating.

PAULINE WINNER , 74, of Barry, died Sunday morning (Oct. 3, 1993) in her home. Born Dec. 11, 1918, near Barry, Mrs. Winner was a daughter of Clifford Grant and Elsie Mae Davis Jones. She married Delford Winner Feb. 12, 1944, in Barry. He died March 2, 1969. Mrs. Winner was a member of Barry First Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Elbert Winner of VanBuren, Ark.; a daughter, Mrs. Carl (Luetta) Swartz of Barry; a brother, Earl Jones of Davenport, Iowa; two grandchildren; six step- grandchildren; and seven step- great-grandchildren Mrs. Winner was preceded in death by two brothers. Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. today in Park Lawn Cemetery at Barry. Memorials may be made to Pike County-Barry Cancer Support Group or Pike County Hospice. VIRGINIA IRENE WINNER , 83, of Barry, died Monday, April 5, 2010, in the Monroe Mannor Nursing Home in Paris, Mo. She was born Sept 3, 1926, in Rockport, to George and Dollie (Shade) Kindle. They preceded her in death. She married Gerald Mays in 1935. He died in 1963. She married Cloyd Winner in 1965 in Barry. He preceded her in death June 1, 1979. She is survived by two sons, Jerry Mays and his wife, Gladys, of Phenix City, Ala. and Terry Winner and his wife, Cindy, of Perry, Mo. She is also survived by six grandchildren, 10 great- grandchildren, 22 great-great-grand­children and one sister, Mabel Walker, of Rockport. She was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. Virginia enjoyed her garden and canning and had worked as a cook at the Barry Community Care Center in Barry for many years. She was an awe­some mother. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 7, in the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 8, in the Kirgan Funeral Home in Barry. Burial will be in Samuel Taylor Cemetery, Rockport.

DONALD VOILES WOLFLEY age 93, of the Pittsfield Manor in Pittsfield, Il. and formerly of Griggsville, Il. died early Saturday morning (January 9, 2010) at the Manor. He was born July 17, 1916 in Carrollton, Il. son of the late Hubert and Helen Voiles Wolfley. He married Dorothy Rose Shinn on May 6, 1939 in Champaign, Il. and she preceded him in death on December 2, 2006. Surviving is a son, Lawrence Wolfley of California; grandsons, Lyle Wolfley of California, David Wolfley of Michigan and Daniel Wolfley of Wisconsin; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a son Donald Wolfley, Jr. Donald grew up in Greene County, Il., raised in the extended farm family of his beloved grandmother Cora Voiles Logan, while his mother worked in St. Louis. He attended the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana for four years but did not take a degree. There he met and married Rose Shinn of Griggsville, Il. After a college stint in the Illinois National Guard, in 1939 he went to work in the first of several dairy plant jobs, first in Peoria, where Lawrence was born, and then Chicago. For health and other reasons, he was not drafted into the service, and these dairy jobs, an essential industry in wartime, carried him through W.W. II. After the war he left the Chicago area and moved back to Greene County, where he worked until 1949 for a government agency teaching the latest farming methods to farmer veterans returning from the war. In 1950 he moved to his wife’s hometown, Griggsville, and started Wolfley’s Agricultural Service. He provided to the farmers of the area the fertilizers, seeds, and chemicals they used to grow their crops. His business was an essential part of the local economy, employing many local people over the years, until his retirement in 1994. Donald in his middle years particularly enjoyed boating and dining out with his many friends. He and Rose enjoyed dancing well into their later years. It sometimes seemed that Donald knew everyone in Pike County, and in turn he was surely known and liked by thousands. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday (January 14, 2010) at the Airsman-Hires Chapel in Griggsville, Il. A private service will be held at a later date. MAE E. (WENDORFF) WOLTERS - Burial Made In Park Lawn Cemetery Last Sunday. Funeral services for Mrs. Mae E., wife of Albert Wolters, whose sudden death was reported last week, were held from the family residence in this city on Sunday...in charge of Rev. B. J. Cantrell, pastor of the First Christian church. The Evening Star Rebekah of which order she was a member, had charge of the services at the grave in Park Lawn cemetery...Mae Wendorff Wolters, daughter of Henry C. and Carolina Wendorff was born and grew to womanhood in Barry, Illinois, and no one was more widely known and admired by all than she. In the year or 1893 she was united in marriage to Albert Wolters of Carlinville, Illinois, and after their marriage they spent about five years in Waverly, Illinois and East St. Louis, Illinois. Immediately after the passing away of her father in 1898, she with her husband returned to Barry, where they have since resided in their house in Diamond Hill. She was united with the Christian church of this city, in her younger years and she remained a good christian woman throughout all her life. Owing to poor health during the past several years she was compelled to confine her activities to her home duties. The first of this month it was thought best to consult a specialist regarding her condition and accordingly she went to Rochester, Minn. to be advised by Mayo Bros. It was expected that she would soon return to her home, when in Monday night, October 16th, she very quietly passed away. Besides her husband, she leaves to mourn for her, three sisters--Mrs. Nettie Sultzman, Mrs. Carrie Fuhrman, of Hannibal, Mo.,; Mrs. Rena Smith of Evanston, Ill., and one brother, Louis H. Wendorff of this city....Relatives from out of town attending the funeral were: Carl D. Sultzman and wife, Leo Sultzman, wife and son, Loraine Sultzman, wife and daughter, nieces and nephews all of Hannibal, Mo.; Mrs. Nettie Sultzman, Mrs. Carrie Fuhrman, of Hannibal, Mo. sisters; Mr. and Mrs. Simeon Smith of Evanston, Ill., the latter also a sister; Mrs. J. Dwyer and Mrs. M. Sultzman of Hannibal, Mo.; Dr. H. A. Wendorff, a nephews and family and Mrs. Jeanette Davis, a niece, all of Quincy, Ill.; B. Wolters, Miss Augusta Wolters, Mr. and Mrs F. E. Baningart and son Robert of Havana, Illinois, brother and sisters of Mr. Albert Wolters.

LORENA (MORROW) WOODEARD , 83, formerly of Pittsfield and Pleasant Hill , passed away, Sunday, April 18, 2010 at the Barry Community Care Center in Barry , IL . She was born near Atlas, IL on January 29, 1925, a daughter to Virgil and Hazel McGlaughlen Morrow. She married Ronald Smith on August 22, 1942 and later married John Woodeard in Pittsfield , IL on April 2, 1977. He preceded her in death on February 7, 1993. Lorena had worked in the Ben Franklin Store Gift Shop before being employed at the Pike County Clerk’s office. She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing and her grandchildren. She is survived by sons, Rodger (Mary Jo) Smith of Columbia, MO., Bart (Mary Jane) Smith of Barry, IL., daughter, Monica (Larry) Ruble of Pittsfield, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Three brothers and two sisters survive, Kenneth Morrow of Rockport , IL. , Virden “Bud” (Gail) Morrow of Stratford , MO., Ron Morrow of Pleasanton , CA. , Doris Browning and Betty McGlasson of Pittsfield. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Rev. John Ruzich officiating. Interment will be in the Gray Cemetery near New Salem

DOROTHY E. WOODRUFF , 100, of Pittsfield, died Sunday, July 5, 2009, at the Pittsfield HealthCare Center. She was born May 28, 1909 in Grandin, Mo. daughter of the late Ed and Eva Ritchie Nance. She married Newman Woodruff Nov. 20, 1930 in East St. Louis, Mo. and he preceded her in death Dec. 10, 1984. Surviving is one daughter, Reba Pease of Pittsfield, several grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Manual Nance of Grandin, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Dee Bonnett; a son, Donald Newman Woodruff; two grandchildren, Sharon K. Schaefer, and John Orr; a sister, Helen Wartenbee; and three brothers, Bill Nance, Milton Nance, and Melvin Nance. Dorothy, along with her husband owned and operated Woodruff's Grocery Store along Route 104 near Liberty, for many years. She was a member of the Pittsfield Church of Christ. Private graveside services were held Tuesday, July 7 at Gray Cemetery near New Salem. There was no visitation.
