The eighth annual Akin/Aiken reunion was held Saturday, Aug. 6 in Griggsville Park. Attending this year were Bill and Mardell Lidgard of Chambersburg, Norman and Kathleen Kallenbach Staff of West Point, Elaine Staff Sorrills and daughter, Christina of Jacksonville,' Judy Lacksheide Zeller of Jacksonville, Charles Akin Jr., Randy Akin of Knoxville, Wava Aiken Grisham of Pittsfield, Mary Lou Aiken Chaplin, Dorothy Akin, Elaine and Rhea Hobson and Linda Akin of Griggsville and William Owen Hays of Pittsfield. A delicious potluck meal and conversation were enjoyed by all.

The descendants of William Carroll and Ethel Louella Thomas Lewis met for their annual reunion August 3, 2008 at the Lion's Club Building in Pleasant Hill. The oldest person present was June Lewis of Winchester, age 103. The youngest was Gavin Smith of Woodland Park, Colo., age 23 months. Nellie Smith of Murrayville, age 94 and the only surviving child of William C. and Ethel L. Thomas Lewis was also present. Descendants were present from five states. Descendants of William Edgar Long and Missouri Belle Garner of Pearl and Milton area met at Mississippi Valley Christian Camp Sunday, August 10, 2008 with fellowship and a potluck dinner for the Long reunion. Much visiting and swimming in the lake was enjoyed. A business meeting was held to elect new officers. Larry Long was elected president and Russell Renoud, secretary treasurer. In 2007 we lost our secretary treasurer Hazel Goldman. She held this position 1964 - 2007 equaling 43 years service. She was a joy; always a smile and kind word for everyone. A Barry picnic was held in Pamona, Calif., last Sunday, at which many former Barry and Pike county residents were present and enjoyed a most delightful time. The affair was held in Ganesha Park in that city. This is said to be one of the beauty spots of southern California. It is the intention of the former Barry people to form a permanent organization and meet two or more times a year. The descendants of James and Rena (Howland) Peecher of Rockport and Luther and Nellie (Howland) Peecher of Summer Hill gathered Friday, July 31, and Saturday, Aug. 1 in Pittsfield. The Peecher brothers married the Howland sisters and raised their families in Pike County. The family gathers to remember times gone by and to share time together now. Ray and Judy Davenport hosted a cookout at their home Friday evening for early arrivals. Those from Georgia, Tennessee, Indiana, Minnesota and northern Illinois began arriving Wednesday. Perfect weather allowed for a nice evening. Showers didn't dampen the spirits as additional family members arrived Saturday for a dinner at the Farm Bureau Hall. The Schlieper reunion was held Sunday, August 10, 2008 at the Milton Community Center. Joean Schlieper was he oldest family member present and her great-grandson Ross Michael Curfman, six weeks old, was the youngest member. His mom and dad, Janelle and Ryan Curfman, grandma and grandpa Jeanette and Dale Howland, were there along with Uncle David and Aunt Brenda Ottwell. The Schlieper reunion is alays the second Sunday in August at the Milton Community Center. See you in 2009 .

Sunday August 10, 2008, David and Charlotte Hamilton hosted the 71st Annual Smith Family Reunion at their home in rural Pittsfield. There were 41 in attendance. This was a special reunion as Beulah Dunham celebrated her 86th birthday that day. She is the youngest of the four remaining Smith sister. The 25th annual reunion of the descendants of Frank and Margaret Hulsman Yakley was held Sunday, August 3, 2008 at Griggsville Park. Attending were: Eric and Mary Will, Atlanta IL; Braice Hill, Springfield; Tim and Heather DeLarica, Bloomington; Matthew and Dianna Lovell, James and Jonah, Beardstown; Imogene Main, Liberty; Dan and Anita Mefford, Carson and Kit, Tim and Lisa Leahy and Quinn, and Marjorie Gamble; Alan and Joan Mays and Meredith Mays, all of Pittsfield; Marvin and Erlene Risley, Beverly Risley , Brian and Roxann Risley, Wyatt Risley , and Glenna Conkright all of Baylis; Margaret Smith, Perry; Donald Risley, David, Barb and Steven Risley and Dorothy Akin all of Griggsville and guests Linda Akin and Owen Hays, also of Griggsville.
