Clarence 'Laddie' Jobe
Clarence 'Laddie' Jobe, 86, passed away Monday, August 8, 2005 at Hospice Kavanagh. Clarence was born February 6, 1919 to Henry and Leona Jobe of Mound City, Illinois. Raised in St. Louis, Clarence entered the Navy during WWII. While stationed at the Navy Depot in Salt Lake City, Utah, he met and married a Navy WAVE, Dorothy Gasperi from Ft. Des Moines, Iowa. After their discharge in 1946, Clarence and Dorothy settled in Des Moines to work and raise a family. Mr. Jobe retired from Delavan Mfg. in 1970 after many years of service 'Coach Jobe', as he was known to the kids, was one of the founders of the Bloomfield Township Little League now known as the Ft. Des Moines Little League and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2001. He coached Little League, Babe Ruth and Connie Mack for many years. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed helping kids improve their game on Saturday mornings. In later years, golfing and his computer became his passion. He was a past librarian for the Des Moines Computer Club and a former Iowa Methodist Hospital Guild Volunteer. Clarence is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy; and his children, Clarence (Vonnie) Jobe, Jr., Dorothy (David) Bushman and David Jobe. He also leaves his grandchildren, Adam Jobe, Sally (Matt) Ludwig, Kevin (Jen) Ross, and Michael Jobe. Adding to his joy were his many great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Casey Bushman Young. Visitation for Clarence will be at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 10 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. with a funeral service following the visitation at 6:30 p.m. Cremation will follow the service and interment will be at a later date. Memorials may be given in his name to the Casey Bushman Young Teaching Scholarship in care of the family. Source: Des Moines Register, The (IA) - August 9, 2005
