He was of medium height, medium build, with black eyes and black hair. He is in the 1920 census of District 6, Haywood Co., Tenn.: Sarah Mathews, 84, Tennessee (parents born in Virginia), widow; Jasper, son, 33, Tennessee. He was born 15 Feb 1889, in Brownsville, Tenn., according to his World War II draft registration. He was living at Pulaski, Ill., and worked for W. P. A. Laura Mathews was listed as the person who would always know his whereabouts.
4 Sol Bradley, 22, of Pulaski, public worker, son of Charley Bradley, married Willie Johnson, 18, of Ullin, born in Tennessee, daughter of Mat Johnson, on 21 Aug 1898, in Pulaski Co., Ill. She is in the 1880 census of Carroll Co., Tenn.: Mat Johnson, 30, Tennessee; Donia, 29, Tennessee; H. E., 4, Tennessee; Ida, 3, Tennessee; and Willie, 3 months, Tennessee.
5 Alex Harrington is in the 1910 census of Pulaski Precinct, Pulaski Co., Ill. He was 45, born in North Carolina (parents born in North Carolina), a farmer, had been married twice, and had been married 17 years. His wife was Henrietta, 35, born in Missouri (parents born in Missouri), married once, married 17 years, and the mother of two children, both deceased in 1910. They are also in the 1920 census of Pulaski, Pulaski Co., Ill. He was 53, born in North Carolina, and a truck farmer. Henrietta was 50, born in Missouri. They also appear in the 1930 census of Pulaski Precinct. He was 63, born in North Carolina, owned his own farm. Henrietta was age 54, born in Missouri.
6 The death certificate for Clarence H. Kelley states he died 3 Jul 1946, in Ullin, Pulaski Co., Ill. Clarence Kelley is in the 1910 census of Ullin Precinct, Pulaski Co., Ill. He was age 27, born in Illinois, had been married six years. His wife was Sarah, age 28, born in Illinois, mother of one child. She had been married previously. Also in the household was Nettie Walton, Clarence’s stepdaughter, age 10, born in Tennessee, and Eliza Grant Cooper, Clarence’s mother, age 65, born in Tennessee (as were her parents), widow, mother of three children, of whom one was living in 1910. Sarah may be the same person as Sarah Tharpo, 18, of Ullin, born in Henry Co., Tenn., who married on 10 May 1898, in Pulaski Co., Ill., John T. Walton, 23, of Ullin, laborer, born in Henry Co., Tenn. When Clarence registered for the draft for World War I, he gave his name as Clarence Henry Kelley, born 8 Aug 1882, in Pulaski, Pulaski Co., Ill. He lived at Box 101, Ullin. Clarence Kelley is in the 1920 census of Ullin Precinct, age 37, born in Illinois, farmer. His wife, Sarah, age 39, born in Tennessee, is listed with him. In 1930 he is in the census of Ullin Village, age 47, born in Illinois, steam railroad laborer, married at age 20. Sarah was 48, born in Tennessee, married at age 21. Living in their household in 1930 was Herman Harris, age 9, born in Illinois, a grandson; and Vinna Porter, Clarence’s aunt, age 70, born in Tennessee, married at age 23.

He is in the 1900 census of Pulaski Precinct: Fred Clary, born June 1870, Tennessee, married 11 years, railroad section hand; Lizzie, born July 1873, Illinois, mother of 3 children, 1 living; William C., born Jun 1898, Dise O., born Dec 1895, and Oda O. born May 1896. 83 There are nine Caldwells, Calwells, and Colwells, on the roster of the 4th U.S. Colored Heavy Artillery, but none of them were named Sandy or Alexander. Sandy Colwell married Ann Palmer on 8 May 1872, in Pulaski Co., Ill.
84 William Flake is listed in the 1910 and 1900 censi of Pulaski, Pulaski Co., Ill. The 1900 census states he was born June 1843 in Tennessee. His parents were both born in Virginia. He married in 1862. His wife was May (Mary) Flake, born about 1844 in Georgia. Living with them was Willie Flake born Oct 1894, in Illinois, their grandson. (See footnote 34.) William Flake is in the 1880 census of District 10, Madison Co., Tenn., and was born about 1840 in Tennessee. His wife was Mary Flake, born about 1845 in Georgia. Their children’s names and ages in 1880 were: Willy, 14 (born in Arkansas); George, 11; Felix, 8; Jim, 3; and Dora, 1. The younger children were all born in Tennessee. William Flake was 18 years old and lived at DuQuoin, Ill., when he enlisted in Co. D, 60th U. S. Colored Troops on 16 Sep 1863. He was mustered out on 15 Oct 1865, at Duvall’s Bluff, Arkansas. His pension file states he also served in Co. D, 1st Iowa Colored Infantry. In 1888 he filed for a disability pension and in August 1917 his widow, Mary Flake, filed for a widow’s pension.

He was born about 1845 in Tennessee and was a mulatto. Julia was born about 1847 in Kentucky and was mulatto. Their children were Charles Pluck, born 1868 and David J. Pluck born 1870. On the 1880 census of Pulaski, Pulaski Co., Ill., Alfred was listed as age 33, born in Georgia, and a widower. His children were: Charles, 12; David, 10; William, 9; Elma, 7; Laura, 4; and Olmstead, 3. Charles Pluck, 25, born in Pulaski, married on 7 Nov 1897, in Pulaski Co., Ill., Mary Parker, 20, born in Olmsted, daughter of Hugers and Metildy Parker. William Pluck, son of Alfred and Julia, married on 23 Mar 1895, in Pulaski Co., Ill., Effie Guinn, 18, born in Pulaski, daughter of Pierce and Lizzy Guinn. Emily Pluck married Page Hughs on 16 May 1889, in Pulaski Co., Ill. Olmsted Pluck, 22, of Pulaski, married on 5 Sep 1901, in Pulaski Co., Ill., Fannie Parker, 18, of Pulaski.
