Miss Leona Brust
THANK YOU, MISS BRUST, Thank you for all you have meant to us since you started us out in the first grade. When we first started to school, we were frightened six-year-olds with unassured mixed feelings about this business of leaving our homes and being cooped-up with a group of strangers in a schoolroom all day. We were looking for a friendly face and for the reassurance of some adult who would love us and help us over an awkward time in our lives. Well, to admit it, we wanted someone who, in our hearts, could take the place of Mother, needless to say, we found that in you, our teacher. Besides teaching us our ABC's you were always there to comfort our hurt feelings, render first aid to our scratches and bruises, wipe our runny noses, and above all, give of yourself and your time to love us. When we failed, you were among the first to sympathize; and you were always there with generous praise in our moments of triumph.
Since that time your life has touched ours in countless ways. Our problems have grown as we have grown older and your interest-your friendly advice and counsel- has helped us over many hard times. As we have sought to learn our lines and to play our parts in the life of the school and the community, we have come to count on you. We are going to miss you, but we shall never forget you.
In dedicating this 1960 memory book to you, we are saying, "Thanks, Miss Brust, Thanks for being our friend."
