Charlie Bates
Charlie Bates, 59, of Decatur, IL, passed into eternity on Monday, February 21, 2005 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Services will be 12:00 noon a.m. Monday, February 28, 2005 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. C.D. Stuart officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to services. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Walker Funeral Service & Chapel are in charge of the arrangements. Charlie was born on October 17, 1945, to James and Beluah May Bates in Mounds, Illinois. Mr. Bates worked at AW Cash Value until the company moved. He then worked for Wallace Labs for 21 years until he had his stroke. He married Shirley Ann (Macklin) Bates on July 17, 1966. Mr. Bates worked with children in the Title One Program, and he and his wife worked tirelessly as Youth Advocates. Mr. Bates leaves to cherish Precious Memories: His wife: Shirley Ann Bates of Decatur, IL, son: Charles Alexander (Ruby) Bates of Indianapolis, Indiana, daughters: Kimberly Ann (Steve) Palmer of Decatur, Illinois, Jennifer Lynn Bates and friend, Bobbi Karch of Mt. Zion, Illinois, brothers: Jimmie L. ( Linda) Bates of Davenport, Iowa, Alfred L. (Sue) Bates of El Sobrante, California, Charles L. (Dorothy) Bates of Decatur, Illinois, Harvey L. (Mary) Bates of Hampton, Virginia, sisters: Erma J. Smith of Flint, Michigan, Melvina Prather of Springfield, Illinois, four grandchildren: Myles Alexander Bates and Bryce Andrew of Indianapolis, Indiana, Steven Palmer Jr. and Ashleigh Nicole Palmer of Decatur, Illinois. Special friend: Tosh Sehuki. A host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Mr. Bates was preceded death by his parents, two brothers: Fred Bates and Frank Bates.
