James Edward "Jim" Burd

James Edward "Jim Burd, age 67, of Olmsted, Ill., died at 4:55 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at his home.

Mr. Burd was born Dec. 30, 1935, at Olmsted, son of the late Clyde Jacob Burd and Violet Marie (HOLCOMBE) Burd.

Mr. Burd was a former member of the Olmsted United Methodist Church, was very active and a former member of the Olmsted Lion's Club, was a founder and one of the individuals to organize the Olmsted Khourey League Baseball, served on the Olmsted Volunteer Fire Department since the early age of 17 years, served as mayor for the village of Olmsted for 27 1/2 years, and was a retired fireman with the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant, Kevil, KY., after 22 years.

Mr. Burd married the former Charlotte (DALTON), on June 17, 1956, in Mound City, Ill.

Mr. Burd was preceded in death by his parents, and a son, James Michael Burd, on July 9, 1991.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Burd, of Olmsted; a daughter and son-in-law, Monica and Bobby Edwards of Olmsted; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian E. and Tina Burd of Grand Chain, Ill.; a brother, Clyde Dennis Burd and wife Barbara Burd of Carbondale, Ill., one sister, Jo Tally and husband Benjamin Tally of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren, Heather Dawn Biggerstaff and husband Bronson Biggerstaff of Grand Chain, Jason Owen Edwards of Olmsted, Ashley Elizabeth Burd of Grand Chain, Brandon Burd of Grand Chain, and Cody Christine Burd of Grand Chain; and several nieces and nephews.

As per Mr. Burd's wishes, his body has been cremated.

A memorial graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at the Masonic Cemetery in Olmsted.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorials to the American Cancer Society or to the Olmsted Volunteer Fire Department, in memory of Jim Burd.
