Clifford L. Carpenter Sr.
Clifford L. Carpenter Sr. 83, of Cairo, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004 at his home. He was born Oct. 22, 1920 in Pemberton, NJ the son of the late Clifford and Helen (McGEE) Carpenter. He was a retired switch tender for the railroad. He was of the Baptist faith, a member of the Masonic Lodge in Chicago and was a 32 degree Mason. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the US Navy. He is survived by his daughter, Rose Warren, of Cape Girardeau; his son, Clifford L. Carpenter, Jr. of Cairo; his step-son, Edwin Philpot, of Memphis; his sister, Rose Marie Kiddy of Byhaven, MS; eight grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife, June in 1992, 2 grandsons, 2 brothers and 1 sister. Visitation was at the Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo from 5-8 Saturday. Funeral services were conducted at 1:30p.m. Sunday at the Barkett Funeral Home. Interment was a Green Lawn Memorial Gardens at Villa Ridge. The Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo was in charge of arrangements.
