Freda Marie Lenox Foster
Freda Marie Lenox Foster, was born August 28, 1914 in America, Illinois to the late Willie and Lucy Lenox. This close knit and loving family included ten sisters: Helen, Mary, Josie, Lillian, Irene, Georgia, Florence, Flossie, Rudell; and one brother, Russell. Her siblings and special niece, Doris, all preceded her in death. She moved to Gary, Indiana after graduating high school and began her life's work as a seamstress under the tutelage of Reatha Henry. She worked at Henri's Dress Shoppe for many years before moving to the Coronet Shop in 1957 where she was head of the alterations department until her retirement in 1987. Freda Foster was a gifted seamstress and entrepreneur having mastered her skills with a large clientele. Freda Foster was well recognized in the city of Gary. She accepted Christ as Lord of her life at an early age and united with Israel C.M.E. Church upon her arrival in Gary and remained faithful until her death. She was a member of the A.C. Bailey Auxiliary. She was united in marriage to William Bernard Foster (Bill) on March 22, 1941. To this union, one child was born, William Lennox Foster (Billy). Their love of music was passed on to their son. A loving and devoted wife and mother, Freda and Bill shared 56 wonderful years together until his passing in 1997. The door to the house and their hearts was always open. Friends, neighbors, as well as celebrities, were made to feel at home, most often leaving full of Freda's, Bill's or Aunt Alice's home cooked meals. She was called to be with the Lord on February 5, 2003 at Southlake Care Center in Merrillville, IN, where she was comforted by a very attentive staff. She leaves to cherish her memory: her devoted son, Billy (wife, Renee) Foster; granddaughter, Afriyie; nephews, Steve (Pat) Brisker, Kerry (JoAnn) Alcox; nieces, Wanda (L.T.) Smith, Norma Jean Vasser, Carolyn Leonard, Ruth Lane; cousins, Jacqueline and Terri Martin; uncle, Harry L. Foster; and a host of other relatives and friends.
