Cora L. Humphrey

Mrs. Cora L. Humphrey, of Flint, Michigan - Age 75, expired Friday, April 9, 1999 at Hurley Medical Center. 

Family hour 11 am Friday, April 16, 1999 from the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 2101 M.L. King Ave., with funeral service commencing immediately at 12Noon. Rev. H.B. Dixson officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11 am Friday. 

Mrs. Humphrey now lies in state in the Chapel of the Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed after 12Noon today. 

Mrs. Cora L. Humphrey was born October 8, 1923 in Mound City, Illinois, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse James (Julia A. Griffin) Brock. She wed James Humphrey in February of 1946, and they move to Flint in 1965, where she has been a resident ever since. Her church home was Mt. Zion Baptist Church, which she loved dearly. She sang in the choir, and was a faithful member until her illness. She was a sweet, loving, caring, special lady, daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was loved by all who truly knew her. 

She leaves to cherish her sweet and precious memories: mother, (100 years old) Julia Brock of Peoria, IL; 6 daughters, Flossie Mayhand of Chicago, IL, Marion (John) Young of Peoria, IL, Shirley Horton, Juanita (Walter) Gibson, Cora Lawson, and Christine Humphrey, all of Flint; 3 sons, Daniel (Barbette) Humphrey, Clarence (Venita) Humphrey, and Gregory Humphrey, all of Flint; daughter-in-law, Annie Humphrey of Flint; 6 sisters, Georgette (Fred) Watson, Hattie Graham, Margaret (Edgar) Dunnigan, Elizabeth Davis, all of Peoria, IL, Alice Haley and Lula Daley of Chicago, IL; 2 brothers, Finas (Opal) Brock of Peoria, IL, and Harvey (Audrey) Brock of Robbins, IL; 39 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Irene Calloway of Grand Rapids, MI; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. 

Mrs. Humphrey was preceded in death by her husband, James Humphrey, Sr; father, Jesse J. Brock; son, James Humphrey Jr; sister, Mary R. Taylor; grandson, Steve Miller; very good friend, Mamie Thompson.

 Special thanks go to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, the 9th floor oncology staff of Hurley Medical Center, Dr. Basim Towfig, Linda (Humphrey) Jones, and Hospice nurse Brenda Phillips.
