Nellie May Hickman

Nellie May Hickman, 100, Independence, MO, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 1998, at the home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 21, at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel; burial in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Friends may call 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ivanhoe United Church of Christ, 6512 Woodson, Raytown, MO 64133.

Mrs. Hickman was born June 27, 1897, in Mounds, IL. She worked as a teacher and as a seamstress for the garment industry. She was a member and past president of the Women's Organization of the Ivanhoe Church of Christ. She served as a ''Gray'' Lady at Menorah Hospital for 14 years and served on the Scholarship Board at the University of Illinois from 1970-1977. She helped found the Kindergarten program for the state of Illinois Educational Program in the 1930's.

Survivors include two sons, Harry L. Hickman, Bolivar, MO, and Elbert Z. Hickman and wife, Agnes, Ocala, FL; one daughter, Delores E. Jurick and husband, Tom, of the home; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
