Alice "EL" Lawrence-Mathia

Alice "EL" Lawrence-Mathia, age 73, of Kansas City, KS, and previously of Grand Chain, IL, passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at her home in Kansas City, KS.

 Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, at the Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in Metropolis, IL, where visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 21; burial in Cyprus Masonic Cemetery, Cyprus, IL.

 Local visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 18, at the Alden Harrington Funeral Home, Bonner Springs, KS. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice or Cancer Action, both in care of Alden Harrington Funeral Home, 214 Oak St., Bonner Springs, KS 66012.

Alice was born January 26, 1930, in Grand Chain, IL, and attended the public schools in the Joppa, IL, area. She moved here to the Kansas City area with her family in the late 1950s. 

Alice was a loving Mother and Friend to all her Children. 

She was preceded in death by one son, Ricky Duane Lawrence, on October 8, 2002, and by one Grandson, Shane Michael Dobbins, on July 9, 1999, one sister, Dorinda Marthalene Little, and one brother, Robert Lewis Little. 

She was previously married to James Christmas and preceded in death by her second husband, Robert D. Lawrence.

 She is survived by her husband and longtime companion, Harold "Hunky" Mathia of the home; five children, Linda L. Burkhard of San Filpe, Mexico, James D. Christmas and wife Linda K. of Stilwell, KS, Sheila K. Murry and husband Rob Lane of Napoleon, MO, Daisy D. Gaumat and husband Apul of Independence, MO, and Randy D. Lawrence and wife Katherine of Belton, MO; two sisters, Daisy L. Roka of Saginaw, MI, and Barbara M. Alvey of Independence, MO; three brothers, George T. Little of Cottage Hills, IL, James D. Little and Roger D. Little, both of Grand Chain, IL; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
