Iris Lucille Modglin


 

 Iris Lucille (Smith) Modglin, 69, of Ullin, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of God Saturday, May 7, 2005, at home with her family beside her.

Iris was born April 21, 1936, in rural Pulaski, to Curtis and Faye (Taylor) Smith and grew up in rural Dongola, the eldest of seven children. She attended Egypt Grade School and then Dongola High School.

Iris met George, a tall, skinny but handsome farm boy from Ullin and they were united in marriage Sept. 26, 1953, with his brother Bill and his newly wedded wife of exactly two weeks, Carolyn, as witnesses. Iris and George lived on the family farm just
outside Ullin raising two children in a very loving home.

 Iris had several hobbies throughout the years that included sewing, knitting, needlepoint, shopping, traveling, talking on the phone to family and friends, gardening,
crossword puzzles, talking on the CB radio, and reading paperback books to name
just a few.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Ullin.

Iris is survived by her loving husband George of Ullin; daughter Dianne Droge and special friend Tim Timpone of High Ridge, Mo.; son and daughter-in-law, George Jr. and Jean Modglin of Cobden; two grandsons, Danny Droge of Anna and Mason Modglin of Cobden; her father, Curtis Smith of Anna; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Kay and Gino DalPonte of Highland Park, Catherine and Herb Garrey of Lake Forest, Nancy and Tom Kiddle of Naples, Fla., and Pam and Doug Inglish of Maryville, Tenn.; a brother, Mike Smith of Anna; aunts, Almeta Modglin of Ullin and Lenora Canupp of St. Peters, Mo.; uncle Grant Taylor of Ullin; sisters-in-law Minnie
Verble, Edith Johnson, and Carolyn Modglin; nieces, nephews, and other
relatives.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Faye Smith and brother, Dick
Smith.

Services for Iris Modglin will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 10, 2005, in Crain Funeral Home in Ullin, with the Rev. John Windings officiating. Interment will be in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation was Monday and Tuesday until time of service at Crain Funeral Home in Ullin. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
