Helen M. Ratliffe
Helen M. Ratliffe, 87, of Decatur, Illinois, passed into eternity on Thursday, September 29, 2005 at 9:45 p.m. at Decatur Memorial Hospital. Homegoing will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 8, 2005, at Trinity CME Church with Pastor Patricia A. Havis officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Walker Funeral Service & Chapel are in charge of the arrangements. Helen was born November 9, 1917, to Enoch and Ruth (Baucom) Hunt in Mounds, Illinois where she completed her high school education. Helen later moved to Decatur, Illinois where she met and married her husband Eddie Ratliffe in 1942; he preceded her in death in 1999.Helen worked as a beautician for several years, before beginning her career at Newman’s Clothing Store, where she worked and retired from. Helen loved the Lord and was a member of Trinity CME Church where she served as President of the Missionary Society for 12 very gratifying years. Helen was a former steward and a former choir member. Helen served on multiple boards of Trinity CME Church. Helen didn’t have any biological children of her own, but she raised Sylvia Hunt-Coleman as her daughter. Helen leaves to cherish precious memories: one niece whom she raised as her daughter: Sylvia Hunt-Coleman of Chicago, IL, one sister: Laveda Fowler of Rock Island, a god son: Jimmy Sater, three sister-in-laws: very special sister-in-law: Neatril Watson of Decatur, IL., Mary Ratliffe and Jewel (Dewitt) Haynes both of Newport, Arkansas., two special friends: Mildred Bond and YT & Edna Palmer both of Decatur, IL. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and other relatives. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, parents, five brothers and two sisters. Helen will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Obituary written by family members.
