Lee Edward Unger

Lee Edward Unger, Sr March 11, 1921 - April 18, 2008 A long time resident of San Antonio, TX, Lee Unger was born in Mound City, Illinois, the youngest of 10 children.

Lee attended Concordia College in Milwaukee, WI, where he was nicknamed "Ox" for his strength which he exhibited in a bear wrestling contest at the county fair. Lee joined the United States Marine Corps to serve his country in the Pacific Theater of WWII, including campaigns in Roi-Namur, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima. He continued to carry the Semper Fi philosophy into all he did. He married his childhood sweetheart, Ruth Jacobsmeyer on September 5, 1943. Lee was a devout Christian whose life as a disciple of Jesus Christ was evident to all who came in contact with him. His faithful service to the church and others was a seemingly effortless part of his life. Along with his wife of 64 years, Ruth, he spent many hours serving and caring for his family, church, and community with open arms. Lee was the living epitome of his frequent quote, "The best thing you can do for your children is to love your wife." He will always be remembered for the wonderful poetry that he wrote to express his love of family and joy in life.

Lee is survived by his wife Ruth and their nine children: Mark and Cynthia Unger, Karen and John Rayburg, Ellen and Ernie Mazurek, Susan and Gary Roberts, Lee Jr, and Debi Unger, Hank and Mary Unger, Bill and Laurie Unger, John Unger, Alice and Charles Childress, along with 24 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
