Harry C. Walker
Harry C. Walker, 88, of Savannah died Sunday, January 11, 2004 at Azalealand Nursing Home, under the care of Hospice Savannah. He was born in Grand Chain, Illinois and was a Veteran of WW II, having served in an Engineering Company in Burma. He was dedicated to the field of education, his family, church and youth. Also, he was a Mason. Mr. Walker received a Bachelors and Masters Degree of Education from Southern Illinois University, did undergraduate work at McKendree College and post graduate work at George Washington University (St. Louis). He originally taught in a rural one-room schoolhouse in the 1930's. Later years, as a high school and college teacher, working many years as a high school principal and Superintendent. He authored two books during his retirement. He was a member of North Park Baptist Church in Orlando, Florida and for many years has attended the Wilmington Island United Methodist Church where he especially loved his Friendship Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Wanda M. Walker in 1999 and three brothers, Albert Otis Walker, Glen Eric Walker, Esper Leo Walker. Mr. Walker is survived by a son, Lynn William Walker, daughter-in-law, Judy Walker of Savannah; a daughter, Sharon Harmon, son-in-law Robert Harmon of Alabama; four grandchildren, Damon Walker, Brittany Webb, Erica Walker, Whitney Walker, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Chapel of the Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home - Hodgson Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Sanford Brown, officiating. Internment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Remembrances: Hospice Savannah. Hubert C.
