Willie Woods

Mr. Willie Woods, age 87, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2005 at Maplewood Manor. 

Rosary Scripture Service 7 pm today, February 1, 2005 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. Funeral service will be held 10 am Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 2316 Coldwater Rd. Rev. Timothy Nelson officiating. Interment New Calvary Catholic Cemetery & Mausoleum, G-4142 Flushing. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 am Wednesday. Mr. Woods now lies in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12 Noon-8 pm today.

 Mr. Willie Woods was born June 30, 1917 in Grand Chain, Illinois, the son of Ben Woods, Sr. and Rosie Butler Woods. As a teenager, he worked as a truck driver for C.C. Camp in Southern, IL. Mr. Woods relocated to Kankakee, IL, at an early age and was employed at Florence Stove for a short time, and then entered the United States Army, serving in World War II as a Mess Sargeant until he sustained an injury and was medically Honorably Discharged. 

In 1943, he met and married his wife Audrey and to this union one daughter was born who went to heaven at age 3 years 9 months. 

Willie's 12 brothers, 4 sisters and parents have preceded him in death; has many nieces and nephews. 

After, Willie's discharge he was employed at Elmwood Ordinance Plant, until the end of World War II. Willie and Audrey moved to Southern, IL, where they farmed and was Willie employed as a truck driver. In 1946, Willie and Audrey moved to Chicago, where he was employed at Kraft Foods. Willie and his wife relocated to Flint in 1952, and he briefly worked at Hamady's Bakery, and then Buick, a division of General Motors Corporation for 15 years of service. In 1967, Willie became self-employed as, establisher and owner of Arlene's, where he maintained until November 1996. He then retired and sold his business.

 Willie was baptized and received all his Sacraments at St. Frances of Assisi on September, 24, 1996 with the help of Father Robert McKeon and Bishop Pouish. He makes his transition from Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, under the care of Father Lorenzo. 

Mr. Woods was preceded in death by his wife.
