Mary Gwenivee "Granny" Young
Mrs. Mary Gwenivee "Granny" Young, age 60, died Saturday, December 1, 2001 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 1:30 pm Friday, December 7, 2001 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing immediately at 2PM. Eld. and Mrs. Robert Hatche officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30PM Friday. Mrs. Young now lies in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed after 3PM today. Mrs. Mary Gwenivee "Granny" Young was born March 26, 1941 in Mound City, Illinois, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grandville and Winona (Coklow) Allen. She moved to Flint, Michigan in 1971 and later married Willie Young. Mrs. Young worked at Gentiva as a home care technician for many years. She also was a dietary technician at First Presbyterian Church on South Saginaw in Flint. She received Christ at an early age, and was currently a member of Gospelway Fellowship Pentecostal/Grace of God Ministries of Mt. Morris, MI, where the Eld. Benny Robinson is the host Pastor. Mrs. Young was a former member of Holy Ghost Church in Flint, MI, where the former host pastor was Eld. Strong a former member of Deliverance Church of God In Christ, where the host pastor is Eld. Zack Smith, Sr. After graduating from high school, Mrs. Young later went into nursing. Mrs. Young enjoyed serving God's people, cooking, and loving God's people. She was kind, loving, and would help anyone. Missionary Young never met a stranger. She leaves to cherish her memory: 4 sons, Grandville Allen of Dallas, TX, Kenny Morris, (twins) Terry and Jerry Morris, all of MI; daughter, Carmen Morris of Toledo, OH; grandchildren, Christopher Baker of MI, Chyanna DeCamp of Fort Myers, FL, Kenny Morris, Jr., Kendell Morris of Saginaw, MI, Trinite and Shenika Morris of Flint; stepchildren, Minnie Young, Frank Young, Dorothy Young, all of Flint, and Johnny Young of AL; sisters, Marie McBride, Minnie Young, Shelia Shields, Mother R.D. Childress, and Mother Lillie Spence; niece, Winona; very special niece, Pastor Thomas Usher III of WI; a host of many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins; and very special daughter-in-law, Tonya Warren. Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her 2 sons, Michael Winston and James Morris; parents, Grandville and Winona Allen; and 3 aunts. The family would like to express special thanks to the church family, Minne Young, Marie Young, and many others that were also there in our time of need.
