St Francis Cemetery
Putnam, Putnam County, Illinois
Transcribed by Dena Whitesell
In 1863 Michael & Margaret Jennett, Thomas & Winifred Real deeded this plot of land to James Duggan, Bishop of Chicago. Francis Cemetery is now under the auspices of the Peoria Diocese, with much of the finances and up keep coming from St. Joseph Church, in Henry, Ill (probably where the confusion comes from in that this cemetery is know as St Joseph Cemetery). It is thought that Francis Real was the first buried here.
This is an active cemetery, surveyed by Dena Whitesell (with photos available
upon request) on August 6, 2004. The cemetery is located within the confines
of Lake Thunderbird, a private community.
