Mark Ashdown

I am the great great great grandson of Mark Ashdown of Coe township. I have in the past year thru research found quite a bit of information concerning this lineage. This leads me to tell the story of how I became involved in my family histories in the past year. As I was growing up my grandparents Virgil and Wilamine ( Dailey ) Ashdown lived in Galesburg IL. In their dining rtoom sat the most beautiful dining room table and chairs. I loved to play around the legs as a child and the table continueed to impress me thru the years. As time as passed so have the generations. I Lost my grandfather Virgil in 1988.

My grandmaother Wilamine passed in 2000. Before my grandmother passed she showed me a letter that was attached to the bottom of the table. On it was a brief history of the table. To make a long story short I can trace this table back in my family to the late 1880s. It belonged to my great great grandfather and his wife. As a matter of fact they butchered hogs on it. ( You can not tell that today !!!!) That table that I was so fond of now sits in the dining room of my home. I have a daughter that is the name sake of the family and she already is proud of the fact that she will one day have the table to pass to the next generation.
